Yesterday Apple finally unveiled the latest version of the iPad to the world, and although the device looks pretty impressive, most of the new features had already been speculated about leading up to the event. As usual with Apple product launches there was no live stream of the event and fans of the company had to make do with various live blogs around the world reporting the news as it broke. Today we can tell you that the video of the new iPad 2012 keynote speech is now live in its entirety, and the reasons behind the devices name.

Apple has put up yesterday’s event on its website for fans to watch back if they desire, and it has a running time of around 85 minutes. You will see all the demos for the new iPad along with the revealing of the latest version of the Apple TV. We also had the news of the immediate availability of the latest operating system iOS 5.1, which also brought with it Siri in Japanese and will hopefully fix the battery life issues with the iPhone 4S.

In the months leading up to the event all the rumors suggested the device will go under the name iPad 3, and just before rumors of iPad HD emerged. At yesterday’s event both Tim Cook and Phil Schiller introduced the new device, but as you will see in the video didn’t mention any specific name for it.

Throughout the unveiling the device is referred to as the “new iPad”, and as Redmond Pie are reporting the reason behind this according to Sciller is that Apple didn’t “want to be predictable”, when asked about the naming of the device.

This has led some to suggest Apple and Tim Cook has made a mistake and could confuse some consumers, but in reality whatever name it went under probably wouldn’t hurt sales of the device. If you want to watch Apple’s event click here.

Do you plan to get the new iPad?

As most of you will already be aware, HP has just unveiled their impressive looking TouchPad tablet device, which packs a dual core 1.2Ghz processor amongst other hardware delights. Will it be able to compete with Apple’s upcoming iPad refresh this year though?

Of course we’re yet to hear official details on the second generation iPad or iPad 2 as it’s more commonly known, but that hasn’t stopped the likes of the Wall Street Journal reporting on alleged specs for the device. It looks like the iPad 2 will definitely have increased memory and a front-facing camera, but we’re also hearing that the device will be equipped with a dual-core processor as well – Apple will really need this if they are going to stay at the top of the tablet game.

So step in HP’s new toy, the TouchPad. As we told you earlier, main specs include a 9.7-inch display, a dual core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 1GB of RAM and a front-facing camera, although no rear camera – surprised?

At a quick glance though, HP’s TouchPad is now the fastest tablet on paper, as the Motorla Xoom, LG G-Slate and BlackBerry Playbook only come with dual-core 1GHz chips. Despite the fact that HP has just announced their flagship tablet, we believe that all eyes are still on Apple and what they bring to the table with the iPad 2.

Can Apple handle this new threat from HP? – More than likely.

As soon as Apple bring out a new product speculation starts almost straight away what the next version will be like. We have already had talk about the next iPhone, now there are rumors of a new iPad.

David Murphy of PCMAG is reporting in an article that sources have been telling Apple Insider, that Apple is already working on a new version of the iPad. Some of the new features are Apple’s Facetime video chat, and the new device is said to be 9.5 by 7.5- inch.

This will mean any new iPad will need a front facing camera like the ones found on the iPhone 4, and the new iPod Touch. According to the sources testing is already at the advanced stage, in readiness of a release in the first quarter of 2011 at the latest. But Apple is trying to up production speed of the new device to have it on the shelves for the 2010 holiday season.

If this does happen it will see a break in the usual yearly cycle for Apple products, and the current iPad isn’t exactly a slouch with over 3.27 million sold as of late July. One reason that Apple could be pushing for this release time is the fact they want to integrate Facetime into its devices, before releasing the service as an open standard.

Competition in the Tab market is set to heat up over the coming months, with device’s such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab due for release. Time will tell if we see any release in time for the holiday season. Would you like to see a new iPad before Christmas?
