Those who feel the Need for Speed (see what I did there?) will be excited that the next installment to the driving-sim franchise is not far from release. While F1 2012 has been enjoying much success in this genre, those who prefer the pick up and play type games will arguably be more drawn to NFS: The Run which hits stores November 18th.

If you are too impatient to wait until then, the demo will be available to download from October 18th, 19th in UK, until November 1st. We have been keeping you up to date so far with the news about the game as it occurs, including details about the pre-order bonus material and a limited edition trailer that made its way online.

Today we have provided another trailer for your viewing pleasure. This one gives our readers a look at EA’s recently announced Challenge Series mode for Need for Speed: The Run, which according to CVG has similarities to the style of gameplay that can be found in NFS: Hot Pursuit. The mode includes over 70 unique racing challenges, ranging from complicated 7 minute courses along mountain sides to fast and intense checkpoint dashes.

Some of the courses are named after and based on previous NFS titles such as Underground, Most Wanted and Carbon. All performances are recorded on the Autolog ranking system allowing gamers to compare their scores, lap times and progression against their friends’. CVG were able to get some hands on time with the mode and have provided a video of their chat with developer Black Box. Check it out for yourself by clicking the link above. In the meantime check out the trailer below for an introduction to the Challenge Series mode.

What do you think of it? Are you looking forward to the next Need for Speed installment?

There has been an absolute out-pouring of special editions and limited edition games of late, and adding to that list we have one for all driving-sim and Need for Speed enthusiasts with the first trailer of the new NFS: The Run Limited Edition which hits stores later on in the year.

EA announced the deluxe edition of Need for Speed: The Run today, which is now available for pre-order and contains some rather interesting bonus material that should wet the lips of all you petrol-heads waiting to get your hands on some of the exclusive cars that are on offer.

Three exclusive cars, which are the ever impressive Lamborghini Aventador, which was recently shown on the UK version of Top Gear this past week, the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and the all-new Porsche 911 Carrera S are yours for your driving pleasure. EA are also giving you access to five special challenges which they do not want to give any details away to yet.

The 18th title in the Need For Speed series is described as “An illicit, high-stakes race across the country. The only way to get your life back is to be the first from San Francisco to New York. No speed limits. No rules. No allies. All you have are your driving skills and sheer determination as you battle hundreds of the world’s most notorious drivers on the country’s most dangerous roads.” The game revolves around Jack, who is shown in the trailer below, who is apparently racing to “get his life back”

As you can tell, Need for Speed: The Run Limited Edition has quite the extras you would expect from a special release of this calibre. And to mark the release, the Black Box-developed racing/running hotchpotch is due out on 3DS, PC, PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360 on November 17 2011.

Are you impressed by the latest trailer for Need for Speed: The Run Limited Edition? Let us know your thoughts.

The Shift 2: Unleashed game (aka Need for Speed: Shift 2 Unleashed) has only been out for around a month, and we’re already hearing information about a new Need for Speed title. The game – entitled Need for Speed: The Run – was first revealed by European retailer ShopTo.net.

According to a recent article by Brendan Sinclair over at gamespot.com, the ShopTo.net product page for the Need for Speed: The Run game not only unveils the game and its box art, but it also reveals a short teaser trailer that shows a North American launch date of November 15th.

The trailer – which clocks in at just 1 minute, 17 seconds long – shows brief glimpses of race action, inter-cut with images of what appears to be the story mode. The video (seen here) also suggests that places such as Denver, San Francisco, New York and Las Vegas will feature in the game.

In regards to a story, the trailer’s glimpses show a man, whose name appears to be Jack, regaining consciousness in a car that’s overturned on a railroad track, while a woman’s voice is calling his name in the background. The tagline at the end of the video is ‘The race for your life.’

Watch the trailer and let us know what you think. Will you be buying the Need for Speed: The Run game?

The much-awaited Shift 2: Unleashed game may not have made it into European, UK or Australian stores yet, but it has been released in the United States. That of course means that we’re starting to see the very first reviews dribbling in and by the looks of things, the game is going to be a huge hit.

We thought we’d take a quick look at a few of the early reviews, just to see what the critics had to say about Slightly Mad Studios’ racing game. Unfortunately I only managed to read through three reviews, but all three appeared to show some pretty impressive scores for the Shift 2: Unleashed game.

For example, Martin Robinson over at uk.xbox360.ign.com gave the game an overall score of 8.5/10. Martin seemed quite impressed with the new ‘Helmet Cam’ feature, describing it as a first person perspective that not only puts players in the driver’s seat, but also provides them with a genuine driver’s eye view.

However, the one thing Martin says he is disappointed with is the lack of a rewind feature. Meanwhile, Craig Lager over at bit-tech.net gave the game a rather impressive score of 9/10. Craig described the game as a highly polished and unapologetic racing game that pushes you to be a better racer.

9/10 was also the score that Jamin Smith over at videogamer.com gave the Shift 2: Unleashed game. Jamin also praised the game’s Helmet Cam feature, stating that it delivers the most true-to-life experience that Shift 2: Unleashed or any other racing game has to offer.

Jamin said that although the game has great Autolog integration, an impressive range of cars and gorgeous cockpit views, its downside is the lack of a rewind feature. You can read more of the reviews via the links provided above. What are your first impressions of the game if you’ve managed to play it?

Shift 2: Unleashed, due for release at the end of the month, has released a new video showing us what it was like when professional race car driver Tommy Milner sat behind the wheel and took a test drive around a track in the Corvette C6.R GT1.

The gameplay footage gives a nice view of what to expect when you buy Shift 2 because it takes you round one whole lap of the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca track while teasing you with stunning visuals that let you see the graphic details from an inside-the-car view.

Shift 2: Unleashed will be the first game in the Need for Speed series to feature more than 100 cars, (145 in total from 36 manufacturers), also there will be 35 different tracks to race on. If this wasn’t enough info to tempt you into buying it, the video embedded below should make you want to buy the game with the whole race chair and steering wheel setup because it looks a lot more fun than using a standard controller.

So confirmed in the video we have the Corvette C6.R GT1 which you can see in all its glory, and with 144 other cars in the game you should have enough choice to keep you happy. We would like to hear from you to see what other cars you would like to see in the game, so once you’ve finnished watching the video below, tell us what you think.

However, it now appears that the game’s full track list has just been unveiled.
The list also includes a number of licensed Grand Prix tracks such as Brands Hatch GP, Circuit de Spa Francorchamps GP, Dubai Autodrome GP, Monza GP and Suzuka Circuit GP. The game also features five London tracks including London Club Drive, London River and London Royal Mile.

Other tracks on the list include the likes of Brands Hatch Indy, Alpental, Ambush Canyon, Circuit Zolder, Donington Park National, Glendale Club, Dubai Autodrome International, Hockenheimring National, Miami Bayside Run, Miyatomi, Nordschleife Mullenbach, Rustle Creek and Silverstone National.

You can view the full list via the gamerzines.com website. The Need for Speed: Shift 2 Unleashed game releases on March 1st, and will be available for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. What do you think of the game from all the information you’ve heard so far?

The beginning of this month was not good for those who loved the Guitar Hero franchise, as we reported that Activision decided to call it a day. We can certainly see why they did it, so could this happen for another genre? It is no secret that the racing game saturation is a serious issue and titles could suffer in the future.

Goozer Nation decided that this needed a closer look, as they too believe that there were far too many games like Guitar Hero on the market – Rockband being one example. There are many others that all do basically the same thing, and that is the same problem with many other games in many other categories.

Racing games have been singled out for good reason; there are only a few decent franchises, Gran Turismo, Need For Speed and Forza. We are well aware that there are other titles on the market, but these are the ones that have stood the test of time. Other games such as Blur, Modnation Racers amongst others try to add more features to a game in the hope of keeping you hocked.

This is what we have the issue with the most, when you think of a racing game you want to be able to choose a car, tune it up and get those settings perfect in order to beat the competition in a race. What you do not want is to try and race someone while trying to shoot at them to damage their vehicle – this is not racing, it’s something in-between.

It is hard to say how long we will have to wait until a truly great racing sim again, GameZone believes that we will not see another on the Sony PS3, and will have to wait until the release of the PS4. We cannot see that some how, but you have to understand what they mean?

Do you think that there is room for the amount of racing games, or will we start to see developers phase a few titles out?

In January we bought you news and details about the new Pagani Huayra supercar and for those adrenaline junkies that would love to race one of these, we are proud to present the news that now you can, all thanks to the folks at EA making Need for Speed Shift 2: Unleashed.

The popular racing title has granted us access to the new supercar in their upcoming title set for release March 29 to America and March 24 for Europeans and is something to look forward to in this series due to the huge emphasis on the exclusivity of this supercar to EA’s title.

If the 140+ cars that made it to the game wasn’t enough to excite you, the arrival of this 700 horsepower, V12 speed demon should surely raise your anticipation for this release. If you’re not reaching 60mph by 3.5 seconds, there is something wrong with your game pad because judging by the screenshots and trailer (embedded at the end of this post) available promoting this addition, EA have been trying to make the car as lifelike as possible and to their credit, it does look pretty stunning in-game.

The news has only made us more eager to catch the game on release and jump into the virtual seat of the Pagani. Does the Pagani’s entrance into the game excite you more about buying the title or do you have other views about Shift 2? Let us know in the comments section below

We haven’t really heard much about the highly-anticipated Shift 2: Unleashed (aka Need for Speed: Shift 2 Unleashed) game since we brought you the release date update a couple of weeks ago. That’s all changed now however, with news coming in of a new trailer and details of the tracks and cars etc.

According to a recent computerandvideogames.com article by Tom Pakinkis, Electronic Arts has just revealed a fair amount of details about the upcoming racing game including information on the all-new helmet cam, and the return of Autolog, which was previously seen in NFS: Hot Pursuit.

The Need for Speed Shift 2: Unleashed game gives players a true realistic racing experience, with real-world drivers, cars and tracks. As like a lot of other racing games, Shift 2 allows players to customize their vehicles such as the suspension, body and even the engine.

As I mentioned earlier, a brand new career overview trailer for the game has also been released recently. According to Paul Lloyd over on the realgamer.net website, the video shows how players will have to work their way up through the game from disciplines such as drifting, right up to GT1.

The needforspeed.com website has also been updated recently, with information on some of the manufacturers, cars and tracks that will be featured in the game. The first batch includes three manufacturers and four tracks including Chevrolet, Toyota, Brands Hatch and Ambush Canyon.
