The last installment of the Need for Speed franchise was arguably the best and most successful, even though it faced competition around its release from Gran Turismo 5 it still fared well. Now today we can tell you that the Need for Speed: The Run demo will be speeding out in two weeks to a console near you.

It could be one of the best games available this coming holiday season especially if you want a break from your first person shooter games. Now if you want to find out if the game is good enough before you part with your hard earned cash, SlashGear are reporting the demo is almost upon us.

It has been announced by EA the demo will be released on October 18th, and will feature the game’s Autolog feature. This allows players to compete against each other while playing the demo. The Run demo will see players racing through the Independence Pass in Colorado, and also the Desert Hills of California.

It will feature two of the many cars that will be found in the full game, so you will get to choose between the tasty Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2 Valentino Balboni or the 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera S. If the Porsche is your car of choice it will only be available if you recommend a friend to download the demo.

The demo will only be available to download between October 18th and November 1st in the US, while in Europe it’s available from the 19th until November 1st. Check out a trailer for the demo below. Will you be downloading the demo once it is available?

We have just five months for EA Black Box to prove themselves, as they are hoping to get a Need for Speed: The Run review score of 90 or more. If they can achieve this, then they should win “racing game of the show”, they are even hoping to win game of the show, but cannot see that happening, as they are up against some tough competition.

The developer is hoping to blow the competition out of the water, but we are sure they are forgetting about Forza 4, which we know will be awesome. We just hope that EA do a better job than Undercover, as we know how bad that game was. There were times when that game looked good, but the overall experience just did not feel right.

Gamerzines has been talking to Steve Anthony from EA Black Box and he believes that there greatest challenge is from within, and once they sort those issue out then there will be no reason why they cannot develop a 90 plus game. Getting that on any game is tough, but is even harder when it is a racing game.

The one issue that Need For Speed: The Run will have is being released in the same month as Modern Warfare 3, but there is no reason why the two cannot both enjoy healthy sales. Not all people enjoy FPS games, and that is just what both EA Black Box and Electronic Arts are banking on.

Can Need for Speed: The Run score more than 90 in its review?

Back at the end of April we provided our readers with a few details and a teaser trailer for the upcoming Need for Speed: The Run game. The trailer – which was only 1 minute and 17 seconds long – showed brief glimpses of race action, along with images that appeared to show the game’s story mode.

If that wasn’t enough for you however, you’ll be pleased to know that Electronic Arts has just revealed new game details during this year’s E3 2011 event. As Kevin Schram over at nexus404.com notes, The Run appears to be a bit of departure for the NFs series, as the developer is adding some new elements to the game.

The Need for Speed: The Run game will have the player participating in a race from San Francisco to New York, and includes a few out-of-the car levels. Fans will also be pleased to know that the Autolog feature that first appeared in the Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit game will be making a return in The Run.

Electronic Arts also showed a short gameplay demo during today’s E3 press conference, which gave fans a glimpse into the game’s on-foot segments. In the segment that was shown, the player’s character was seen running through a building while trying to escape the Mob in Chicago.

It then showed the character stealing a cop car from the police, which he then crashes upside down on train tracks. Do you like the sound of the Need for Speed: The Run game from what you’ve read so far?

The Shift 2: Unleashed game (aka Need for Speed: Shift 2 Unleashed) has only been out for around a month, and we’re already hearing information about a new Need for Speed title. The game – entitled Need for Speed: The Run – was first revealed by European retailer ShopTo.net.

According to a recent article by Brendan Sinclair over at gamespot.com, the ShopTo.net product page for the Need for Speed: The Run game not only unveils the game and its box art, but it also reveals a short teaser trailer that shows a North American launch date of November 15th.

The trailer – which clocks in at just 1 minute, 17 seconds long – shows brief glimpses of race action, inter-cut with images of what appears to be the story mode. The video (seen here) also suggests that places such as Denver, San Francisco, New York and Las Vegas will feature in the game.

In regards to a story, the trailer’s glimpses show a man, whose name appears to be Jack, regaining consciousness in a car that’s overturned on a railroad track, while a woman’s voice is calling his name in the background. The tagline at the end of the video is ‘The race for your life.’

Watch the trailer and let us know what you think. Will you be buying the Need for Speed: The Run game?
