According to Joystiq a member of NeoGaf has complained that his brand new copy of EA’s Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit had an Online Pass that didn’t work. This led to many other users of the forum coming forward and reporting similar stories. Obviously blocking gamers who purchase a new title from the online community wouldn’t be a good move by EA.

EA were asked about the situation and it was confirmed the Online Pass for some new games can expire and block gamers getting to the online part of the game. Owners can download a new one or get one from EA direct according to the publisher. EA stated as a rule no Online Passes should expire, but some games do have a time limit on their use including new purchases.

The company stated that Dragon Age 2 has an Online Pass that runs out on March 31st next year according to EA, but getting a new one or re-downloading won’t cost gamers anything more though. It does seem a strange policy by EA though making gamers who purchase a new copy of a game that may have been available a while going through all the messing about getting a new pass.

According to a recent article by Ben Lee over on the digitalspy.co.uk website, the first of the three DLC packs – which is entitled “Armed and Dangerous” – will be available from February 22nd, and will introduce two brand new modes: “Arms Race” and “Most Wanted.”

The next two DLC packs, entitled “Lamborghini Untamed” and “Porsche Unleashed,” will then be available from March 1st and March 8th respectively. Both these packs will introduce ten new events, four bonus trophies / achievements and three brand new cars.

Each DLC pack will be available on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live, at a price of £5.49/560 Microsoft Points. However, the bad news is that EA has announced that the DLC will not be made available on the PC, due to the limited amount of resources.

As Tom Ivan over at computerandvideogames.com recently reported, the “Most Wanted” mode is an open world battle, where the cops’ job is to bust a specific racer and the racers’ job is to protect them. “Arms Race” on the other hand is an everyman for himself mode.

The “Lamborghini Untamed” pack provides players with the Lamborghini Diablo SV, the Lamborghini Countach LP5000 QV and the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento, which are all playable as both the cop and racer. The “Porsche Unleashed” pack includes the 911 Turbo (1982 Edition), 959 and 911 Speedster.

The game was released onto the store along with many EA titles and it currently sits in 2nd place for the Top Paid app, 4th for Top Grossing. These high rankings prove just how good the game is. Need for Speed currently has a higher rating than any of the apps above it within the Top Paid and Top Grossing parts of the store.

In the game, you play as a police car and are hunting down racers around the courses. There are a few different modes for you to choose from, you can play Takedown, where you have to stop racers using high powered cars like Lamborghini’s. You can play a police career mode, where you start as a Rookie and work your way up. There are 24 cop career events allowing you to progress through the ranks. You have the chance to operate 15 different police cars, all extremely high powered for you to catch the racers and stop them in their tracks.

Do you want a bit more from the game? If you do and have a friend that has made the purchase too, it can be played against one another over Bluetooth or WiFi. One player plays as the police car, the other as the racer.

If you haven’t downloaded the game already then now is a good time, it is currently reduced to £0.59 or $0.99. The game has a version for the iPad, which you can download from the iTunes store here. Well according to Mike Hartnett over at playstationlifestyle.com, although gamers came pretty close to achieving the challenge, they didn’t quite make it. However, the developer Criterion Games then decided to reward gamers with the free DLC anyway.

A brief message – from everyone at Criterion Games, Electronic Arts and Need for Speed – was posted on the hotpursuit.needforspeed.com website recently, noting that although the launch trailer (viewed via YouTube) didn’t quite make it to 1 million views, they wanted to thank fans anyway.

The free DLC pack – which is in fact available to download now on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 – gives players three new convertibles: the Lamborghini Mercielago LP 650-4 Roadster, the Dodge Viper SRT10 Convertible Final Edition and the Bentley Continental Supersports Convertible.

I’m not exactly sure whether or not PC gamers will be receiving the free Convertibles DLC pack, what with the recent confirmation from both Criterion Games and Electronic Arts that the PC version would not be included in any future DLC plans (see previous article here).

According to Mike Jackson over at computerandvideogames.com, Electronic Arts has just announced that it won’t be releasing any DLC for the PC version of NFS: Hot Pursuit. The publisher began by saying that PC gamers wouldn’t be receiving the ‘Super Sports Pack’ DLC.

However, the developer Criterion Games then announced that the PC version of the arcade racer won’t be receiving any DLC whatsoever. According to a rep, they have a limited number of resources that make it so they are unable to deliver DLC to every single platform.

There is some good news for PC gamers however, as they did go on to explain that more updates are on the way for those who own a Microsoft Windows version of the game. A recent article by John Callaham at bigdownload.com makes an interesting point.

The article says that 2K Games made a decision not to offer the final 2 DLC releases for the BioShock 2 title, but then reversed their decision after receiving a massive outcry from fans of the game. Could the same be said about NFS: Hot Pursuit DLC if enough PC gamers complained?

We have some great news for you now however, as Electronic Arts have just announced a release date and price for the upcoming DLC. According to Johnny Cullen over at vg247.com, US gamers will be able to purchase the DLC from Xbox Live/PSN as from December 21st.

European gamers will then be able to purchase it on the PlayStation Network a day later on December 22nd. The DLC pack – which contains both racer and cop versions of a Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport, Gumpert Apollo S and Porsche 911 GT2 RS – will cost $6.99/560 MS Points.

As previously reported here and on an earlier vg247.com article here, the new DLC pack also adds new trophies/achievements to the game, and at least 12 new events for gamers to enjoy. Will you be downloading the Super Sports Pack DLC on December 21/22?

As recently reported by David Scammell over at gamerzines.com, the new “Super Sports Pack” DLC contains six brand new cars, some brand new trophies/achievements and at least 12 new events that will be available across both the racer and cop career modes.

The “Super Sports Pack” DLC includes cars such as the Bugatti Veyron SS, Porsche 911 GT2, Gumpert Apollo, Bugatti Veyron SS Interceptor, Porsche 911 GT2 Interceptor and the Gumpert Apollo Interceptor. The price and release date are unfortunately unknown at this stage.

According to a recent article by Stephany Nunneley over at vg247.com, Criterion Games has now revealed details of what to expect in the upcoming patch and it looks like a fair few issues have been addressed. Gamers are being advised to check the official website for an update on its arrival.

One of the fixes included in the upcoming patch is the rare crash that occurred when players entered the Career map screen. Some players also reported that the car engine volume appeared too low, but Criterion Games has addressed that issue within the second patch.

Another issue that will hopefully be fixed with the upcoming patch is the controller configurations. Some players reported that the controller configurations that were set up for pads and wheels etc were not saving properly to a configuration file.

I recently read an article by goukijones over at gouki.com, in which he details a recent experiment he conducted where he took both Gran Turismo 5 and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit over to a friends’ house during Thanksgiving, to see what his friend would think of both titles.

The conclusion was rather interesting. The author of the article noted that his friend immediately went for the Gran Turismo game first and loaded it into his PlayStation 3. He then tried to start a race once the game had installed, but this couldn’t be done as he had to do a license test first.

After failing several attempts at the license challenge, both goukijones and his friend managed to enter a race. However, the author notes that after every attempt, his friend would hand him the controller and ask him if he wanted to play. It was then time to load up Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit.

Within just three minutes, the author’s friend was already in a race. According to goukijones, his friend didn’t ask him once if he’d like to play NFS: Hot Pursuit. It soon became clear what game his friend preferred, even hinting to his wife that he needed a copy of the game himself.

According to Stephany Nunneley over at vg247.com, the developer – Criterion Games – has just announced that it will be releasing a patch for the PC version of NFS: Hot Pursuit, which should be available to download next week. Although at this stage, we haven’t got an exact arrival date.

One of the problems that PC gamers reported was that their game would crash either at the start of an event, on Car Select, Loading Screen or Map Screen. However, Criterion has now located and fixed the reported issue. The problem with corrupted Dreamshots in non-16:9 aspect ratios has also been sorted.

The other issues to have been fixed with the upcoming patch include the missing snow / rain and Corona effects and the CL Eye driver crashing the game upon startup. The developer has also added support for D-Box motion chair. Have you been experiencing any issues with NFS: Hot Pursuit?
