Are you thinking about upgrading your current PC monitor for a more energy-efficient model? If you are, then we have news that you won’t want to miss out on. NEC has just unveiled its new MultiSync EX231Wp-BK LED-backlit monitor, which comes with a number of energy-efficiency features.

As noted over on the findtechnologynews.com website, the NEC MultiSync EX231Wp-BK monitor comes with a 23-inch LED-backlit display that supports a full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution using a PVA panel, 178 degree horizontal / vertical viewing angles and a contrast ration of 3000:1.

The MultiSync EX231Wp-BK monitor uses less power, generates less heat and uses recycled plastics in its design. It also uses less packaging for its lighter-weight design, doesn’t use any hazardous materials and comes with touch-sensitive OSD controls in its bezel to allow users to manually adjust the settings.

It also comes with both human and ambient light sensors that not only detects the local lighting and adjusts the monitor’s brightness accordingly, but also detects when the user is not there and dims in order to save power. The product also features a quick-release stand with pivot, tilt, height and swivel adjustments.

In terms of connectivity, the MultiSync EX231Wp-BK comes with VGA and DVI-I inputs, as well as DisplayPort and DVI-I output. The monitor is expected to retail for around $319, and ships with a 15-pin D-sub to DVI-A adaptor as well as a DVI and USB cable.

Are you thinking of buying a new monitor? If so, would you buy the NEC MultiSync EX231Wp-BK?

Some of you may have already heard of the dual-screen NEC LifeTouch W tablet, as the device was showcased at the CES 2011 event earlier this year. We now have news regarding the Android-based tablet, as we’ve just heard that the NEC LifeTouch W is heading to Japan in June.

According to J. Angelo Racoma over on the nexus404.com website, the NEC LifeTouch W is an Android-based tablet that is powered by an ARM Cortex A8 processor, and comes with two 7-inch screens that are set side by side. Both screens have a resolution of 600 x 800.

The LifeTouch W also comes with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, 1GB of internal storage, 384MB of RAM, GPS and a 3-megapixel rear-facing camera. However, the possible downside is the fact that NEC opted for a resistive screen on both displays as opposed to the commonly used capacitive screen.

Although the advantage to the resistive screen is that you will be able to use a stylus on the tablet. Another disappointing factor is that the NEC LifeTouch W runs Android 2.2 Froyo. NEC has also noted that users will be able to get 5 hours of normal usage with the LifeTouch W.

This is okay if you only intend to use the tablet to check emails or simply browse, but unfortunately not good enough if you plan on working on it all day. There is no word on pricing for the NEC LifeTouch W tablet as of yet, but we do know that it should be launching in Japan sometime in June.

I have some good news for NEC fans out there now, as according to Darren Murph over at engadget.com, there is a new 23-inch EX231W LCD monitor that has been unveiled by NEC. It comes complete with a stand, which provides tilt, swivel, pivots and height adjustment up to 110mm.

This monitor’s slim bezel measures just 14.6mm, and features a USB pass-through port at the top, as well as offers convenient on-screen touch controls. If you are energy conscious then there is a carbon savings meter, which will show how much it uses.

Another feature that helps to save money is the ambient light sensor. Other specs will include a dynamic contrast of up to 25,000:1, a 250 cd/m² brightness level and screen resolution of 1920 x 1080-pixels.

It also comes with DVI and DisplayPort connectivity. This model is due out sometime in November with an approximate price tag of $339. If you need a monitor upgrade, is the NEC EX231W for you?

There is no doubt that 2010 is going to be a huge year for 3D technologies, we have recently heard that NEC plan to release a 3D all-in-one before the end of the year, however at the moment full details are unknown.

The currently unnamed all-in-one will probably utilize use NVIDIA’s 3D Vision technology, this technology requires users to wear a set of shutter glasses, currently most systems use a USB dongle to transmit infra-red signal, however NEC may integrate the IR capabilities.

NVIDIA’s 3D Vision kit costs around $200 and a half-decent all-in-one will set you back $600, therefore perhaps NEC’s 3D all-in-one will be priced at around $750, this heavily depends on specifications.

Do you think that a 3D all-in-one will be a popular device? Or do you think 3D capabilities are necessary for high-end gaming PCs?

It seems as if NEC are trying to cover every angle when it comes to their projector releases, earlier this month we introduced you to their NP2200 and NP1200 projectors, and now they have unveiled their NP510WS and NP610S projectors.

Their NP2200 and NP1200 projectors that we spoke about last week were regarded as long-throw projectors, meaning they could project a sharp image from a long distance away, the NP510WS and NP610S projectors we are talking about today are short-throw projectors, this basically means they can project a large image in a small room (or from a short distance).

Both projectors offer a lamp life of up to 5000 hours (when in eco mode), they also both offer a contrast ratio of 600:1. The NP510WS supports a native resolution of 1280×800 and a maximum resolution of 1600×1200, whereas the NP610S supports a native resolution of 1024×768 and a maximum resolution of 1600×1200.

For more information check out SlashGear, you can find out full details regarding the NEC NP510WS here and more information regarding the NP610S here.
