I know that I am never likely to experience the thrill that comes when you drive one of these powerful sports cars, so will just have to make do with a video instead.

The guys over at Motor Trend thought that they would take the 2011 Mustang GT and the 2010 BMW M3 onto a track and find out who is top dog. The reason why Motor Trend put the two together on the track was because the specs look to be very even, so it was only fair for the pair to duke it out on some tarmac.

The two cars went through a series of tests to come up with the result, such as a drag race, skid pad, 0-60 time and the best lap times round a circuit. We were very surprised with the results, but were you?

There maybe those who wonder how Ford has managed to get all that extra power from just an increase in displacement, this has to be down to refining the engine.

Ford has not just given the engine a makeover; the Blue Oval is to offer a number of new features not seen on the current model. These include EPAS, this is an electric power assist steering offering greater response when a driver needs to make quick corrections while driving.

The automaker, the only one not to demand any government funded help will also include a new set of specially tuned anti-roll bars, shocks and springs, this will add to that already superb steering. So we know that Ford has worked on the increase in power and better handling, but there is something missing.

With all that extra performance and handling you need a good set of boots and brakes, Ford is to include 19-inch alloy wheels with performance tires as well as 14-inch front discs providing superb stopping power.

The 2011 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 will come with the option as a convertible, we are not sure what kind of effect that will have with the vehicles performance, but Ford will have worked hard to make sure that it is comparable to the hardtop version.
