The way we purchase media content has changed dramatically in recent years as digital downloads are taking over. Consumers now purchase movies and music like never before with new options coming all the time. Now maker of quality audio equipment Pure announces a new music streaming service.

The new subscription service will go up against the likes of Spotify and Deezer, and according to TechRadar is simply called Pure Music. When it is available users will have access via smartphones, PCs or Macs and even any Pure internet radio to more than 15 million music tracks.

The service will cost subscribers only £4.99 per month and will use 7Digital’s streaming engine, and will be cloud based. The company stressed there will be a big variety of music available to users ranging from contemporary folk to Beyonce.

Another feature of the service will be the tagging engine that will allow users to discover new music via recommendations, and there will also be a comprehensive search feature. The tagging feature will allow users to tag a track that is playing on any Pure internet radio.

This will save the track onto your Pure lounge account to be enjoyed later online, and explore the artists back catalogue. There will also be social media sharing available as well as the chance to purchase music. Subscribers will able to use their smartphones via a free iPhone app with an Android version to follow shortly.

There won’t be any caching service available though so there will be no offline playlists. This is probably why the monthly price is a lot lower than Spotify. It is expected to eventually offer similar services to Spotify though. The service is expected to launch in the US as well as the UK with a December release date slated.

Many people in Europe have been able to use the Spotify service for a while now, giving them to access to music from a big range of record labels. Today we can tell you about Slacker Premium Radio, which is a Spotify type service now available in the US.

Chris Davies from SlashGear is reporting that the new service from Slacker will offer access on demand to the company’s entire music catalog. The service will cost $9.99 per month, and includes all the services that are offered in the existing $3.99 per month Radio Plus service.

But for the extra money users get access to albums, individual tracks, top charts, station playlists and single artist radio stations. You can get all this via the web interface or the new apps released for Android, BlackBerry, and iOS Devices.

Users can create their own custom playlists that can be synced with your mobile device, so they can be played when you have no internet connection. This is a feature which is enjoyed by users of Spotify in Europe.

You get to choose from more than 8million tracks from the Slacker catalog, and carrier billing is supported via the apps if you are a customer of AT&T, T-Mobile or Verizon. You can get the applications free if you are already a user of Slacker Radio Plus but have less features.

We have some important news for those of you who regularly use the popular music streaming service Spotify, as the makers have just rolled out a few major changes to the PC version of the software, and it’s changes which may upset a few of you enjoying the free version of the device.

As our US readers will know too well, Spotify is still a Europe-only application, despite continued promises that a US release and releases in other countries are coming soon.

However, a recent update by the Spotify team has now introduced a wave of restrictions to those using the free version. For example, you’ll now only be able to listen to an individual song five times, and you’ll be restricted to just listening to just 10 hours per month – the equivalant of around 200 tracks or 20 albums.

It’s important to note that these changes are based on when you first created your Spotify account. The changes will be coming into affect from May 1st 2011, but a date of November 2010 has also been mentioned specifically – find out more about this on the official Spotify blog here, as reported from Engadget.

Unsurprisingly, these changes are for the free version only, so it’s clearly a ploy to get more users to sign up to Spotify premium which costs £9.99 a month for UK users and a similar fee to everyone else in Europe. Fans of Spotify are voicing their displeasure on the changes over on the Spotify Blog, but let us know your thoughts on it here.

Will you now buy Spotify Premium or will you say goodbye to Spotify in favor of an alternative service, such as Grooveshark for example.
