The original Motorola Xoom saw plenty of success when Verizon wireless began offering it back in February, since then we have heard lots of rumors suggesting that the Xoom 2 will also be hitting the U.S. carrier, we can now confirm this to be true, however for some reason it will be called the XyBoard.

We’re finding it hard to come to terms with this name, but ignoring that we do have a few other things to get through. Firstly the standard XyBoard will feature a 10-inch display, whilst the XyBoard Media Edition has a slightly smaller 8.2-inch display, despite this both will output at a resolution of 1280 x 800 and boast fast processing power thanks to the dual-core 1.2GHz processor which is paired with 1GB of RAM.

No release dates or prices have been confirmed by Verizon Wireless for either of this tablets yet, however this leak suggest that the 16GB XyBoard Media Edition will cost $429.99 on a contract, whilst the 32GB variant will cost $529.99 as part of a contract.

If you prefer the 10-inch XyBoard the 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB models will costs you $529.99, $629.99 and $729.99 respectively (as part of a contract), however please remember that all of the prices mentioned in this post are unconfirmed and came via leak which appeared to show Verizon’s inventory system.

You can find out everything you ever wanted to know about the Xoom 2 aka XyBoard here, the comments over at Droid-Life are very negative of the new name and the high price tags – So what do you guys think of Verizon’s strange choice of name for Xoom 2, will you buy it?

We have a welcome update for you now on the seemingly never-ending US release date saga for the Galaxy Nexus smartphone now, as the device has now showed up on a Verizon roadmap revealing some very interesting information – potentially.

We have told you numerous times in the past that the Galaxy Nexus will be launching in Europe on November 17, but we are still no closer to hearing a specific time for when the device will be launching in the US.

However, a recent Verizon roadmap acquired by Droid-Life has possibly revealed that Verizon will be offering the device in November after all, but it may be online only if their roadmap is to be believed. The specific date mentioned on the document is November 21st, and it has a w/o next it which obviously means ‘web only’.

Could this be the latest twist for US consumers as fans patiently await for official information from Verizon? Considering that consumers were rumored to be facing a release sometime in December after Black Friday, news of an online launch only on November 21 isn’t the end of the world by any means. If it happens, it just means that consumers will have to be pay attention for the very moment the order page goes live, as you can guess that demand is going to be through the roof. We have a feeling that Verizon will follow similar tactics to Apple and put their Galaxy Nexus order page up during the early hours to help ease the pressure on their servers a little.

Meanwhile, the same roadmap also reveals release dates for a collection of other noteworthy Verizon-bound devices. The Droid RAZR is listed for release on 11/11/11 as we already know, and the HTC Rezound has also been marked down for a release on November 14th. Here’s something you may not be aware of though – a possible November 30 launch date for an 8-inch and 10-inch version of the Motorola Xoom 2 that has yet to be announced by Motorola.

Check out the roadmap below and then give us your thoughts on that ‘web-only’ Galaxy Nexus launch. Would you be disappointed if this happens or will you be first in line at any time of the day to get one?

We recently gave you details of release dates and a price for the European release date for the next tablet from Motorola. Now today Motorola have announced two new Xoom tablets to rival the Apple iPad.

The company has revealed the Xoom 2 and the Xoom 2 Media Edition, which according to T3.com will both come running Android Honeycomb 3.2 and have some pretty impressive hardware specs. A new tablet from Motorola has long been speculated about, and although the two devices won’t come running Android 4.0 they should get an upgrade at some point.

First up we have the Motorola Xoom 2 that has a 10.1-inch display, which is protected from everyday bumps and scratches with Corning Gorilla Glass. It also has Motorola’s splash guard that will further protect your display. The new Xoom is 8.8mm in thickness, which is even thinner than the iPad 2, but still has an impressive 1.2GHz dual-core processor inside with 1GB of RAM.

The unit will come packing a 5-megapixel camera round the back, and a 1.3-megapixel shooter on the front. There is a minimum of ten hours of battery life claimed with 16GB of internal storage. Meanwhile the Media Edition comes sporting an 8.2-inch screen that Motorola are calling a HD quality display. It has the same internals as the Xoom 2 and also the Gorilla Glass.

It is slightly thicker though at 8.99mm but does have adaptive virtual surround sound and multiple speakers to give a sound with more bass. The all important release date is mid-November with customers of Carphone Warehouse being able to preorder the devices. Currently there is no information on availability elsewhere.

Do you think the new Xoom’s will be a success?

A few days ago we highlighted more evidence which suggested that the Motorola Xoom 2 was on its way, now we have a scan of what looks like a Carphone Warehouse Christmas flyer which seems to give away some details regarding this tablet’s price, release date and even some tech spec information.

We have embedded the leaked image at the bottom of this post, it suggests that the Carphone Warehouse will be selling the 16GB WiFi-only Xoom 2 for €399.90 – no release date is mentioned, but seeing as how the leaflet is decorated with snow flakes and gifts it is safe to say that it will arrive before December 25, 2011.

Sadly like a lot of leaks the image isn’t too clear, however we can clearly see that it looks like it will run Android 3.2 out of the box, also it will boast an 8.2-inch display and WiFi tethering capabilities. Sadly we can’t make out any of the other specs, but we expect it to trump the original Xoom’s 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor etc.

As you have probably spotted there is no mention of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, we think that it will be a massive disappointment if this tablet arrives without the latest flavor of Android which was showcased last month, what do you think?

According to Engadget the €399.90 price tag equates to $545, however it has to be said that a U.S. price may vary quite massively. We can only speculate for the moment, but we think that a price nearer to $450 – $500 would be much more suitable, that said it all depends on the specs and features it offers.

As and when we hear more information about this tablet we will keep you posted, for now let us know how you would like the Xoom 2 to build on the original’s success – let us know in the comments section below.

We have some good news for those of you that are thinking of picking up one of Motorola’s rumored Xoom 2 tablets. Fresh evidence uncovered in Verizon’s database has suggested that Motorola are preparing to unleash a mammoth 64GB version of the device.

There has been months of speculation regarding the Motorola Xoom 2, but still no official announcement and certainly no sign of an expected release date from Motorola and Verizon. It’s safe to assume that it’s definitely coming though, and perhaps following Samsung’s tactics with their Galaxy Tab, you’ll be able to buy the Xoom 2 in a variety of flavors.

A new screenshot provided by Droid-Life shows some of the models on Verizon’s database and the one model that should take your interest is the 64GB version. This model can be identified by the MZ617 model name and we understand that this actually relates to the 10-1-inch version of the Motorola Xoom 2, coming in three storage capacities – either 16GB, 32GB or 64GB.

The other model is the Motorola Xoom 2 MZ609 and this apparently will turn out to be the ‘Media Edition’ of the tablet – could consumers look forward to some Beats-branded headphones here we wonder? That would be pretty nice.

As you can imagine, there’s no word on potential pricing for these new Xoom 2 tablets, but you can expect them to come in at a pretty premium price, especially the 64GB version. The retail price for that plus the 4G LTE data bundle will result in a rather hefty monthly bill for the 64GB version, so it could be a tablet that’s best suited for high rollers only.

How interested are you in picking up a new Motorola Xoom? We’re guessing that a lot of you are still waiting for Motorola to finish upgrading current Xoom tablets with 4G LTE radios, so picking up an expensive newer version will probably be the last thing on your minds right now.

There have already been one or two leaked images of the Motorola Xoom 2 and the Spyder, but we have no way of knowing if they were the real deal or not. Well, we have that dilemma once again, as a few more images have leaked and it shows that the two devices are angular edged. See these images for a closer look.

The leaked photos show the devices in an almost final form, which means that they must be very close to a release. There is thought to be two sizes for the Xoom 2, but Motorola has yet to confirm this. Then there is the Spyder (RAZR), which has seen a video from Moto dropping some hints about the upcoming smartphone.

It does seem funny how the new handset has crept up on us without anyone knowing too much, which must have Samsung a little worried? The final version will come with a 1.2GHz processor, but the model in the images is said to be clocked at 1.5GHz. Not sure why this would be, but still, 1.25GHz is not too shabby, especially when we believe that the iPhone 4S has been declocked to 800MHz.

As for that Xoom 2, the one in the images is said to be the smaller 8.2-inch version. This could turn out to be an ideal size for Motorola, as to some 10 inches is too large and 7 inches is a little on the small side – maybe they have learned from the mistake made by Samsung with the smaller Galaxy Tab?

Towards the end of last month a new Motorola tablet was spotted, which started the rumor mill, as it was generally thought that it was the upcoming Xoom 2. However, we have reason to believe that the Schaumburg based company might be delaying the their new tablet. We say this because it has just come to light that a new Family Edition of the current version has been spotted.

All the signs are there that there will not be a second-generation Xoom just yet, as Verizon has only just released the upgrade for 4G LTE data support. Why would they offer support for the current version if there were a new one just around the corner? However, it does show that Big Red is thinking of owners of the original model.

The new Xoom Family Edition will come pre-loaded with a family software suite, which does seem a little weird, as we cannot remember hearing consumers asking for such a feature. What this version gives you is something called Zoodles, which normally costs around $40. Currently not much else is known, but we will keep you informed once we have a price and a release date.

We cannot understand why Motorola would want to offer such a version, as there are apps out there that will do the same thing. Zoodles is software that will stop your children to going into parts of your tablet where you would not want them to go. The only content that they can use is within Zoodles itself, so allowing them to enjoy a host of games, videos etc. Do you think the Xoom Family Edition is just another way for Motorola to get more money from you – if so this will not help their cause against the iPad 2?

The tablet market continues to be dominated by the iPad, as various manufacturers have brought out their take on the tablet PC only to see it not prove to be very successful. One such device the Motorola Xoom received a lukewarm reception after it was released. The company looks to be trying to change this and come up with another attempt as the Motorola Xoom 2 gets more detailed, with two possible sizes.

A few days ago we told you that a new Motorola tablet had been spotted, and then had another report wondering if it was like the Photon 4G. But now Engadget have managed to get hold of some new images of the device and some proposed specifications, and there could be two devices on route.

The device is being slated as the Xoom 2 Media Edition and could have an unusual 8.2-inch display. This could put it up against eReaders as well as the iPad, and may be a good compromise for screen size. Its LCD screen is rumored to have a more colorful IPS-based display, which is closer to that of Apple and Samsung.

It is also claimed to be having an anti-glare finish to the screen that will make it easier to read outside especially in the sun. The new device could be nice and light as it is thought to only weigh 0.95 pounds, and slightly slimmer than an iPhone 4. There is also talk of LTE connectivity being made available as well, and the prototypes spotted were thought to be running Android 3.2.

We will have to see if Motorola do indeed bring out two new devices, as they could be testing a variety of options before deciding what to bring to the already crowded market. They could use their experience with the original Xoom to try and be more successful this time around.

What do you think Motorola needs to do different with its next tablet to succeed?

The Motorola Xoom 2 is a little elusive at the moment, as there does not seem to be too much information coming from those people who claim that they are in the know. However, this has now changed, as we have two images of the proposed new design, and you can see that there are similarities with both the Photon 4G and even the Droid HD come to that matter.

We cannot say for certain how real these images are, but if they do turn out to be the real deal, then it is sticking with the 10.1-inch display format and not smaller, although we do know that they are considering it. The Xoom 2 is currently known as the MZ617 – oh how we love those code names. Motorola do not seem to be going too bold with its design, but we will just have to see how it progresses.

Having said that, there are a few key differences, such as being lighter and huge physical flush buttons to the rear. Droid Life also points to both HDMI and micro USB, a SIM and SD card slot. This means that it is highly likely that the new Xoom 2 will be able to take advantage of LTE. The biggest difference from what we can see is the corners of the tablet, as they are now more angled than the current version – hence the similarities to the two handsets that we mentioned above.

Not much else is known, but it does look as though there will be a front and rear-facing camera. However, we are uncertain what megapixel they will be. We do not know what CPU will be used, RAM or storage, but now that these pictures have appeared, it could now be the time that the influx of information finally begins?

Android fans know that the iPad 2 is making their tablets look stupid when it comes to sales. We are not saying that Apple’s offering is superior in hardware, it’s just they seem to have the overall package right. With this is mind our thoughts now turn to an imminent release of Motorola Xoom 2, and the evidence looks to be building up nicely.

The most recent hint of this is the fact that the current Xoom has seen a price drop, and not just in one or two retailers. It seems that most places that sell the Honeycomb tablet will now offer it to you for $499. Having said that, Droid Life says that you can get it even cheaper in Staples.

We have to ask ourselves why the Xoom is now seeing this price drop; was it all part of Motorola’s plan, have they been forced into it due to lower than expected sales, or is the Xoom 2 truly on its way? These are all questions that will be hard to answer – unless Motorola announce details a new tablet soon.

The idea of an update so soon after the current Xoom release is a little hard to grasp at the moment, as that would mean a very short life cycle for the tablet. Although with strong rumors flying around of an iPad 3/iPad 2 Plus doing the rounds it might not be as far fetched as we first thought.

Motorola might feel that they are being forced into releasing the Xoom 2 earlier than expected for another reason, as they are not only facing tough competition from the iPad 2 but also the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. The Xoom does have a few features that put the new Tab to shame, but it is the weight difference with Samsung’s new tablet what could cause the biggest upset.

If we have learned anything over the years, it’s the fact that Motorola likes to release devices that are very sturdy, which means that they also weigh that little bit more. Now this is not always a bad thing, as we have seen that these new devices like the Samsung Galaxy S II is just too thin and light, and seems much easier to break than lets say a Motorola Droid.

The idea of a Motorola Xoom 2 on the way will open up a bigger issue for those who were considering buying the current model, as they might put off purchasing the current model instead. With this in mind maybe Motorola should state their intentions – although if they did say a new Xoom would be with us in the next few months, then current sales would suffer.
