Since the Motorola Xoom tablet was announced last week during CES 2011 there has been much speculation as to its price and release date. However, CNET UK has recently learned from Android Community that the device had been expected to cost about £660, but has since increased to £720. We recently reported that the release date could be in May on Verizon in the U.S.

They say that by the time the Xoom is released the price could be even higher, but I doubt if that will be the case; let us remember that the iPad 2 and the BlackBerry PlayBook are both due for launch over the coming months. Personally I cannot see the device costing £720, as that is over $1100 – although consumer electronic devices such as tablets always cost more in the UK because of the huge amount of tax that the government add on.

TechRadar is even shocked at the huge price tag, as they say that not even the 64GB iPad Wi-Fi and 3G costs that much. It seems as if Motorola is putting a large premium on the fact that this tablet will have a dual-core processor – but then again so does the PlayBook.

We can certainly see why Motorola will want to charge so much for the new Xoom tablet, but there are so many factors that needs to be considered, but there are still a number of other tablets coming to the market that you should also consider. How much are you prepared to pay and is there another tablet that you would consider?

We have been looking at the way CES is unfolding and things are looking good. Already, we have reported on the PalmPad’s expected announcement and brought you Motorola’s biggest teaser video surrounding their new tablet.

The Motorola tablet is expected to be seen at CES 2011 in January, but what we want to know, is what’s it’s name? Motorola are trying to trademark the name ‘Xoom’ and as far as we are aware, Motorola doesn’t have too many products in the pipeline other than it‘s 3.0 Android tablet. So will it be the Motorola Xoom Tablet?

If you haven’t seen the teaser trailer that Motorola released, then you can view it at the bottom of the article. We have heard another name kicking around that could potentially be the Motorola tablet and that is the ‘Stingray’. I guess we will have to wait and see what they announce it as at CES 2011. You can read more about the trademarking over at Pocketnow by clicking here.

The expected specs for the device include the 1GHz Tegra 2, 32GB Internal storage, mini HDMI connection, 512MB of RAM and a 10” multi-touch screen at 1280 x 800. It will also be running on the 3.0 Honeycomb Android OS. We eagerly wait to find out more.

Have you heard any other names for their new tablet PC? Let us know in the comments below.

CES 2011 has been building up nicely; we have already reported the Cricket Muve, which is expected to come with a new Samsung device, a 3D HD video recorder and a Microsoft Slider Tablet.

A video has crept onto the web, it is certainly the biggest teaser towards a Motorola tablet PC running on a Honeycomb 3.0 Android system. The video starts off with looking back in time, right back to the very start and looking at the first tablet.

First up is the Egyptian Hieroglyphic Tablet: 3200 B.C. This is comically described as “Good graphics, but weight makes for difficult portability“. We move onto the next box, the Tablets of Stone – The Ten Commandments: 1440-1500 B.C. It’s described as having “Excellent durability, but zero flexibility (can’t edit)”. Next up is the Rosetta Stone: 196 B.C. This is described as “Multi-lingual support, but low-resolution screen”.

The video moves onto the Mayan Engraved Tablet: 500, is described as “Successful Latin American distribution, but rumored 2012 self-destruct feature”. There are a few more things shown and the theme is, as things become newer they become more advanced. Next up was the GRiDPad in 1989, followed by the Apple iPad and Samsung Galaxy Tab in 2010.

We then get onto the interesting part, the bit about Motorola. The camera moves round to the stand with a large Motorola logo beneath a covered device. We start moving in closer and a Bumblebee flies onto the screen, what could that mean? Honeycomb 3.0 we think. The Bee flies towards the Motorola logo, then flies away leaving “CES 2011” in its trail.

The hype is certainly starting about the Motorola Tablet PC and thought of it running on Android’s Honeycomb 3.0 is leaving us wanting more.

What do you think of the teaser trailer? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Following on from the recent Motorola tablet showing, in which Google’s Andy Rubin demoed Android Honeycomb on the device at All Things Digital, we have an update for you now as a list of new specs have been revealed.

As reported from Engadget, new ‘blurrycam’ images have appeared online, showing the Motorola tablet in all it’s glory, although we still can’t confirm if the device will be named the Stingray as previously rumored.

What we do know though, is that Verizon definitely has a tablet on the way, as one of the pictures shows a Motorola logo, and also a Verizon logo in the top left and top right hand sides of the device.

More importantly, the person who obtained the images has given out some specs of the device. They include a 1GHz Tegra 2 T20 processor, a 10-inch 1280 x 800 multitouch screen, a gyroscope, 512MB of RAM, 32GB Internal, a 3.5mm audio jack, Micro-USB port and mini-HDMI connector.

You can also see in one of the images that the device will also have a front-facing camera for video chats – which is always nice. We’re hoping that this device will also have support for Verizon’s 4G LTE network, as that would seriously give it a major incentive for consumers to pick up – what do you think?

The pictures are up at Engadget, have a look and let us know your thoughts on this upcoming tablet from Motorola.

Following on from our initial report which confirmed that Google’s next version of Android will defnitely be available next year, we now have an update on a new tablet from Motorola which is on the way – thought to be the previously rumored Motorola Stingray tablet.

If you didn’t catch any of the All Things Digital event live, you would have missed Google’s Andy Rubin giving a very brief teaser of an unnamed Motorola tablet which will be running OS Honeycomb next year.

While Google were not prepared to give out many spec details on the Motorola tablet, Engadget has already named a few and if you put 2+2 together, it does look seem likely that this device well be the Motorola Stingray, planned for a release on Verizon next year.

Engadget state that the tablet shown at All Things Digital includes an Nvidia Processor, Video Chat, a dual-core 3D processor and obviously Android OS Honeycomb.

These details match up with a report we wrote back in October, which said that the Motorola Stingray would be a 10-inch Android Honeycomb Tablet, which would come equipped with a Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, 16GB of internal memory and also access to Verizon’s 4G LTE network speeds.

Hopefully we’ll be able to bring you more details on the Motorola tablet unveiled this week. Do you think that it is the rumored Stingray or a completely new device?

While the rumored tablet talk seems to be about devices by Google, RIM and LG, we have one interesting article for you to read now, which explains why a tablet release from Motorola would be the closest rival to the Apple iPad.

The article in question comes to us courtesy of Cnet, and they have given us a few reasons why Motorola, partnered with Verizon Wireless could give Apple a real run for their money with a tablet device of their own.

Considering how well Motorola and Verizon have done with their Droid smartphones, a ‘Droid-branded’ tablet would also be a hit with consumers. The Droid brand has well and truly cemented it’s place in the market now, so any new hardware would be an instant seller – especially with Verizon’s fierce marketing campaigns.

What are your thoughts on this? Would you consider buying a Droid tablet device if Motorola were to release one? Read the full article over at Cnet and give us your two cents on this.
