A few days ago we assumed that we learned the specs of Motorola’s new upcoming handset, which we assumed was either called the Droid RAZR HD or the Spyder. However, the smart money does seem to be on the latter. Up until now we have no clue as to what the device looks like, but it seems that an official teaser has backfired.

There have been a number of teasers from Motorola just to wet our appetite, but over time they have given away more information than they had hoped. The latest sneak peak offered a puzzle, but it was this that gave away what the new handset will look like, and we can see that it is a Droid X style device.

The image shows a thin phone, which has a kevler back plate with a hump on the top. We can clearly see a rear camera, which we already know. What we like about this handset is how it will still be known as a RAZR, which to some was one of the best phones in recent years, not because of features but due to the fact that it was so thin and was seen as a fashion statement.

At least we do not have that long to wait to see what Motorola has in store for us officially, as it will be the launch event of not only their new Android smartphone, but also the Xoom 2 as well – okay so we presume that last device. What do you expect from this event tomorrow?

There have already been one or two leaked images of the Motorola Xoom 2 and the Spyder, but we have no way of knowing if they were the real deal or not. Well, we have that dilemma once again, as a few more images have leaked and it shows that the two devices are angular edged. See these images for a closer look.

The leaked photos show the devices in an almost final form, which means that they must be very close to a release. There is thought to be two sizes for the Xoom 2, but Motorola has yet to confirm this. Then there is the Spyder (RAZR), which has seen a video from Moto dropping some hints about the upcoming smartphone.

It does seem funny how the new handset has crept up on us without anyone knowing too much, which must have Samsung a little worried? The final version will come with a 1.2GHz processor, but the model in the images is said to be clocked at 1.5GHz. Not sure why this would be, but still, 1.25GHz is not too shabby, especially when we believe that the iPhone 4S has been declocked to 800MHz.

As for that Xoom 2, the one in the images is said to be the smaller 8.2-inch version. This could turn out to be an ideal size for Motorola, as to some 10 inches is too large and 7 inches is a little on the small side – maybe they have learned from the mistake made by Samsung with the smaller Galaxy Tab?

It seems like October is the month to be in terms of new smartphone announcements. We have just had the iPhone 4S reveal last week, followed by Samsung and Google’s delayed announcement of the Nexus Prime. Now we have confirmation of an event being held by perhaps the silent assassins in all of this – Motorola.

This has definitely slipped under the radar since all the Android gossip has been about the upcoming Nexus Prime and when it will finally be available. Now though, Motorola has set a date for an event in New York on October 18th at 12pm, in which the company will be unveiling their latest smartphone, rumored to be the Motorola Spyder, or Droid HD / RAZR as it has also been known by, as reported from Droid-Life.

One thing that is confirmed is that this device will be heading to Verizon, meaning it will surely be a direct competitor to Google and Samsung’s Nexus Prime which is expected to be unveiled at any moment now. As usual though, Motorola are remaining silent on their new toy until their event lands on October 18th. However, they have released a teaser video, which gives a few possible hints on the design and maybe even the final name of the device as well.

If you check out the video below, you’ll see that Motorola drop quite a few hints on the device, most notably the ‘razor’ cutting through objects and the kevlar vest which alligns with previous rumors suggesting that the device would include kevlar material to strengthen its design. On this basis, don’t be suprised if the device actually gets announced as the Motorola RAZR rather than the Spyder, but it’s still up in the air at the moment.

The device will obviously be a 4G LTE device if it’s heading to Verizon, and we’re guessing that a decent dual-core 1.2Ghz mininum processor will come as standard though. Other than that, full specs of the device are still unknown.

So all eyes on Motorola’s announcement on the 18th then, do you believe that this phone will be better than the mighty Nexus Prime or not? It’s a win win situation for Verizon of course, so which handset are you going to opt for, and why?
