We have some good news for those of you with a Motorola RAZR handset in the UK. The aging handset originally shipped with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, only to be given an update to Ice Cream Sandwich afterwards. Now it gets even better for those that have kept the faith as Motorola has decided to grant you access to an official Jelly Bean 4.1 update as well.

Motorola has taken to their blog to dish out the pleasing information and we have to say that we’re pleasantly surprised that the device has made its way to Jelly Bean after shipping with the outdated Gingerbread. The company has also provided three excellent tutorial videos, giving users a chance to preview some of the features that will be available once you have received your notification to update to Android 4.1.

One of these is the new Google Now features that comes with Jelly Bean, enhancing your Motorola RAZR with personal assistant capabilities in the process. The update will also include improved and expanded notifications and an general performance increase thanks to the Project Butter technology.

Motorola has said that the update will be rolled out in phases and has already begun for some users. To check whether you have the update or not yet, you can simply head to your device settings and attempt to push the update manually via the About Phone section. The full update rollout could take up to two weeks to reach everyone though, so don’t get too stressed if you haven’t received the update just yet – patience is a virtue.

In the end, it looks like a very positive outcome for the EU Motorola RAZR. How many of you had honestly expected to be given an official update to Jelly Bean? Let us know if you have already received a notification to update to Jelly Bean, or if you’re still waiting.

Late last year Motorola released the new version of its RAZR smartphone that was well received by owners and reviewers alike. Now if you are an owner of the handset and live in Europe, Motorola are going to make you happy, as we can tell of a Motorola RAZR 651.73.30 update and a list of features it brings.

Consumers in the US with the Verizon version of the handset received an update before Christmas, and now Motorola is pushing one out across Europe. According to Eurodroid there aren’t a huge number of changes, but Motorola do promise some “general improvements”.

These include enhancements to the camera app and a new motion rule inside Motorola’s impressive Smart Actions feature, along with a few other minor tweaks. The Evernote application is now pre-loaded and allows users to save ideas among other things.

There are also some new security features as well as improvements to the handsets call performance and Bluetooth connectivity. Other changes include localization enhancements and improvements to the handsets Wi-Fi performance and stability, which includes general improvements to the actual Wi-Fi connectivity.

Countries that will be receiving the software update include the UK, Italy, Germany, and Spain among others. Motorola are advising that you must have at least fifty percent battery charge available before you start the update. If you receive the notification of the update you simply select download, and once complete install before your RAZR restarts itself.

Users can also manually update the software by selecting the about phone feature from the settings, and selecting system updates. Have you updated your handset yet?

This week we have had a lot of news about new Android devices that are coming to the market, as well as the new Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Motorola Droid RAZR have got a lot of attention with many Android fans anticipation of the devices heightened. The Samsung Galaxy Nexus has already been confirmed by Verizon and now a possible release date shows its face.

There has been a lot of speculation the device will see a November 10th release date, but with any unreleased device this can quickly change. Now Android Central have a Verizon Map that again shows the handset having a November 10th date, but this time has the official Nexus name for the device.

The screenshot of the Verizon map shows the device should start at the $299.99 price bracket. We have already told you about the pricing of the Nexus in the UK and what it could relate in comparison in the US. The Verizon map also shows details of the Motorola Droid RAZR, but shows the handsets preorder date instead of the actual release date, and could be on October 27th.

There are many who feel that Motorola have really got a great handset in the pipeline with the RAZR. We have already given you a first impressions hands on of the device as well as UK pricing and release date. The RAZR is also set to receive an update to Ice Cream Sandwich during the first part of 2012 that will further heighten the appeal of the handset.

Will you be considering the Motorola RAZR or Samsung Galaxy Nexus?

If you watched Google’s recent Ice Cream Sandwich event in which the company unveiled the highly anticipated Galaxy Nexus smartphone, you may have noticed that Google chose not to reveal...

If you watched Google’s recent Ice Cream Sandwich event in which the company unveiled the highly anticipated Galaxy Nexus smartphone, you may have noticed that Google chose not to reveal if the device will be exclusive to one carrier in the US, or release on multiple carriers.

Due to previous leaks on the device, it is almost a certainty that Verizon will be picking up the device first, but since Google didn’t make a big deal about Verizon at their event, it may be a possible outcome that the device lands on other US carriers as well, with no exclusive carrier deal this time around.

A promo video released by Google confirms that Verizon will be one of the carriers as well – this was a video that wasn’t shown at the event, so it has been seen as a sort of secret announcement that Verizon will definitely be getting the device – which now makes things very interesting from a consumer point of view.

This is because Verizon will also be adding the new Motorola Droid RAZR to their existing lineup of Droid smartphones, meaning that consumers now have a difficult decision on which handset to pick up. There are a few key factors which separate the two, and one of the biggest without a doubt is the obvious fact that the Motorola Droid RAZR will ship with Gingerbread 2.3.5, while the Galaxy Nexus will be the first Android handset in the world to ship with Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.

Both handsets are similar in the fact that they’ll both ship with a dual-core 1.2Ghz TI processor, but the chip featured on the RAZR differs slightly in the fact that it’s a OMAP 4430, compared to the Galaxy Nexus which will come with a OMAP 4460. Other differences include an 8 megapixel camera on the RAZR and just a 5 megapixel camera on the Galaxy Nexus. Both are 4G LTE compatible, and both will have 1080p HD video recording capabilities.

One big disadvantage for the new Galaxy Nexus though, is the fact that it will NOT come with a MicroSD slot for expandable memory, instead consumers will have to make do with either 16 or 32GB of memory. The Droid RAZR will come with support for MicroSD though, so if memory means a lot to you, the RAZR may be the better choice for you.

It’s a difficult decision for sure, but after weighing up the pros and cons of each device, which one suits you best? Don’t forget that the Droid RAZR is likely to get an upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich as well, at some point after release.

Another day and another new Android device to look forward to as the Android platform grows at a rapid rate. We told you earlier that the new Samsung Galaxy Nexus handset was confirmed to be coming to the Vodafone network. Now we can tell you about the Motorola Droid RAZR gets a UK release date and price.

In the UK the device will be known just as the RAZR and the UK Motorola website has put up a page for UK consumers to register their interest in the new smartphone. But according to TechRadar a UK retailer has already come out of the blocks and posted a page with a price and release date for the device.

UK retailer Clove has listed the device with the nickname Spyder, and has it priced for a cool £454.80 unlocked. The RAZR is down for release in the country for November 1st, which is only a few weeks away before you can have the smart looking device in your possession.

This could be subject to change though so until it is confirmed by Motorola themselves this date is not set in stone. What the company is claiming to be the world’s thinnest smartphone will not come running the new Android 4.0 operating system though, so you will have to make do with the trusty Android Gingerbread.

In the coming days we can expect to hear of price and availability from various carriers and other retailers. This holiday season consumers in the market for a new smartphone have a great choice of handsets to pick from.

Do you like the look of the new Motorola RAZR?
