One of the most desired Android smartphones to be recently in the pipeline is the Motorola Droid 4 with its lovely slide out keyboard. We recently had a video review of the device ahead of the handset being officially launched. Now it seems fans of the device and Verizon are set to be in for a treat this coming Friday, as the carrier is believed to offer the Droid 4 and other BOGOF deals on some recently released smartphones.

According to a report over at Phandroid the Motorola Droid 4 is going to be released on Friday February 10th, and as reported before will be available for $199.99 with a new 24 month contract. The carrier has some other nice deals on offer though as it brings back its famous buy-one-get-one free deals, which will offer some great handsets.

The recently released Droid RAZR and the impressive Droid RAZR MAXX with its supercharged battery life are part of the BOGOF deal. That is not all as Big Red has also brought back their double data deal, which will offer consumers purchasing a new smartphone up to 4GB of 4G LTE data for only $30.

If you or anyone you know who still uses an aging feature phone, Verizon is offering a $30 gift cards in the Verizon stores in exchange for it. The company is really after you cash as they are also offering $100 off any of the carriers 4G tablets on offer when purchased with any smartphone with a 24 month contract.

Will you be taking any of these deals from Verizon?

Earlier this month we told you how Motorola had begun rolling out a Soak Test for their Xoom tablet PC, which allowed users to test the Android Ice Cream Sandwich software. This was ahead of the launch for everyone else a few days later. Now we have news that Droid RAZR users have been receiving Soak Test invitations, but it is not thought to be for ICS though.

Owners of the handset that may have signed up to take part in Motorola’s Feedback Network have been receiving the invites according to an article on Phandroid. The ones that accept the invites will be beginning the tests blindly about what the tests will be on.

Obviously there has been plenty who have wondered if it was for Android Ice Cream Sandwich, or other bug fixes. But it those seem like the tests will be for the previously leaked Android 2.3.6 update for the device. This was leaked while the CES 2012 event was taking place in Las Vegas, and is thought to fix a number of issues.

These include problems that some users have been experiencing with the 4G connectivity with the Droid RAZR. Owners that have already uploaded the software have said it others a much better 4G connection, and better than any other 4G handsets they have owned before.

The 6.12.173 update also provides some small graphical changes to Blur along with some new bloatware. You can check this out for yourself by heading over to the Droid RAZR forums here. Have you received a Soak Test initiation from Motorola?

If you have been looking to buy the DROID RAZR from Verizon Wireless we have some great news for you as Verizon Wireless has just dripped the smartphone’s price when you agree a 24-month deal, it will now cost you just $199.99 instead of $299.99 over at VerizonWireless.com.

With an 8 megapixel camera, a planned update to Android 4.0 ICS, a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor, LTE connectivity and a 7.1mm thin design there’s a lot to like about the new RAZR (you can see full specs here), but we have to say that some of the devices we saw last week at CES 2012 have overshadowed this, one example of this is the Sony Xperia S and let’s not forget that there’s lots of hype surrounding the DROID RAZR MAXX release.

If you are not fond of the standard black design we can also reveal that from January 23 you will be able to also choose between white or purple variants, either way you get the beautiful-looking woven Kevlar battery cover. The image below (sourced from Droid-Life) shows the three color options which will soon be available, which color do you prefer?

You can see Verizon’s press release which revealed all of this information here, if you would prefer to buy it without a long-term commitment it will cost you $599.99 and will require a month-to-month price plan, contract customers should understand that a $350 early termination fee has been confirmed. If you don’t mind agreeing a two-year deal it will cost you at least $89.99 per month and that will give you the Nationwide Talk & Text 450 price plan (unlimited texts and 450 minutes) and 2GB of data. You can find out all you would ever need to know about Verizon cell phone plans here.

Despite the fact that we have seen more advanced alternatives to the DROID RAZR this week it is still a very formidable smartphone with an extremely desirable design – will you buy it? If so, which color will you choose?

Deciding which smartphone to buy is getting harder by the day, however if you are considering the Motorola Droid RAZR we thought we would make things a little easier for you by bringing in good and bad points from a few reputable reviews.

Engadget’s Droid RAZR review found plenty of pros and cons with this stylish smartphone. Positives include a stylish design and solid build quality, a fast 1.2GHz dual-core processor and the Smart Actions software (find out more about this here). But it’s not all great, the battery is not removable and Engadget’s Terrence O’Brien suggest that Motorola has applied “unnecessarily flashy UI customization”.

You can see the full review for yourself here, in the wrap up its thin design, premium materials and LTE connectivity are all complimented, whilst battery life and comfort in the hands are both criticised. It is also clear that Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is needed.

TechCrunch’s verdict is pretty similar, they complimented the thin, beautiful and unique design, its great display and MOTOCast support, but suggested that it quite often gets hot, slows down and the battery life is not great. Jordan Crook also says that it feels too light to warrant such a price tag, but we think that this just a matter of personal opinion and you would soon get used to the aluminium and Kevlar design. You can see the full review here.

Finally you should check out the Cnet review, on the whole they seem happy with the Droid RAZR and here’s why: Firstly like TechCrunch and Engadget they are also very impressed by the design, display, 4G LTE connectivity and fast dual-core processor, however unlike the other reviews they actually complement battery life. They did however not like the fact that the battery was non-removable and suggested that it would not suit someone with relatively small hands – finally they thought that when compared to other similar smartphones the 8 megapixel wasn’t amazing.

On the whole most reputable sources say that this brings the RAZR series up to date with today’s high standards, there are some minor imperfections, but if you want the thinnest smartphone on the market, fast performance and fast connectivity you will not be making a mistake buying the Droid RAZR.

Will you buy the Motorola Droid RAZR? If not, what will you buy instead?

Since it was first revealed there has been a lot of attention on the new RAZR handset from Motorola. Early impressions of the device have found it to be beautifully thin and responsive with many potential customers wanting to get a hold of it. Originally the device was set to be available in the UK by this week, and we can now tell you that the Motorola RAZR release date has been delayed for some regions.

We have already told you that consumers in the US will be getting the device by the 10th of November as preorders for the handset went live. Motorola meanwhile never revealed a release date for the new RAZR in the UK, but online retailers started to list the handset with a November 1st release date.

Now TFTS are reporting that online retailer Clove have said the date for the launch of the device has been put back a week. The date is now reported to be the 7th after getting a last minute delay, and currently there are no reasons given for the later release date.

If there was a problem it can’t be much of one considering it has only resulted in the handset being held back for a few days. It is not unusual for a new handset to get a slight delay in being released, and could just be a logistical issue.

It has to be remembered though that Motorola didn’t announce an official date for the device, and when checking on the official Motorola UK website we found some other interesting information. The official page for the RAZR gives you two links for how to buy, with Clove stating the 7th, and Amazon listing the handset for the 11th.

Are you thinking of getting the new RAZR?

Earlier today we gave what could be the full retail price for the upcoming Motorola Droid RAZR, which may have not made good reading if you were after a cheaper handset. But for those who are planning on getting the device via a contract, we can tell you that the Motorola Droid RAZR Verizon pre-orders get ready to start.

Early reviews of the handset have been pretty favorable, and now if you plan to get one from Verizon pre-orders begin tomorrow at 8 a.m. Eastern. According to PCMag the handset will be available on a two year contract for $299.99, and currently there is no exact release date but Verizon said the device will ship no later than November 10.

The smart looking smartphone was first revealed last week and will feature a dual-core 1.2GHz processor. It will be Motorola’s fastest and thinnest smartphones so far and only measures 0.28-inch in thickness. It has already been confirmed the new RAZR will launch running Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread, but it has been reported the device will be getting its share of Ice Cream Sandwich early next year.

Verizon have also confirmed that NFL Mobile will be free for 4G LTE customers until the end of this year. There will also be some good accessory options for the Motorola RAZR, which include an enhanced 14-inch laptop dock. The handset is a WebTop device that means when connected to the appropriate dock, it turns into a desktop or laptop PC running Firefox.

Will you be pre-ordering the Motorola Droid RAZR?

The last day or so has been massive in terms of Motorola Droid RAZR news, we now know full tech specs, release date info and pricing and we know it is a lot thinner than the iPhone 4S – but up until now we were unsure as to whether this smartphone would get Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich – which is a big factor to many.

Motorola has now confirmed that the Motorola Droid RAZR update to ICS will arrive over-the-air in early 2012, no exact date has been given, but at least we know that it is coming to the new ultra-thin smartphone. We think that this news will enhance sales of Motorola’s new smartphone, you can see pricing information here.

You can’t really overlook the Verizon-bound Droid RAZR, not only does it have an ultra-thin design but it packs a punch thanks to its dual-core processor, 8 megapixel camera, 4.3-inch display and 1GB of RAM, for the next few months Android 2.3 Gingerbread should be adequate, but we just can’t wait to see the many enhancements that Ice Cream Sandwich will bring to this smartphone.

If you are looking to but the RAZR from Verizon we are told that it will hit the U.S. carrier in early November for $299.99, we can’t really tell you why you shouldn’t buy this smartphone, in terms of connectivity, design and multimedia capabilities there’s not a lot you can criticize, perhaps NFC would increase its appeal, but that’s just us being picky.

Will you buy the Droid RAZR? If not, what puts you off?

Earlier today we told you about the release date and price for the just announced Motorola RAZR. The smart looking device is a rebirth of the iconic name Motorola used a few years ago. Now we have the ultra thin Motorola RAZR in a hands on review.

The team over at T3.com have managed to get some hands on time with the new RAZR, as the handset goes live with a variety of retailers for preorders. The Super AMOLED Plus screen measures 4.3-inches, and was found to provide a really sharp display that was also vibrant and responsive. With well contrasted and bright colors it is a match for the iPhone 4S and Galaxy S II.

It may be a really thin device but it still feels a big device in the hand partly down to its ultra wide display, while the RAZR is alarmingly light. The camera on the handset is an 8-megapixel unit that is capable of 1080p video capture, and on first looks was slightly disappointing.

Viewing the cameras live view via the handsets screen the content appeared slightly grainy without clear definition. Once the image is taken though the shots were found to be of a reasonable standard, which included some vivid colors. The camera was used in low light conditions so it may prove to be better than early impressions have given.

The RAZR felt quick and responsive thanks to the 1.2GHZ dual-core processor, and the device itself looked smart with its Kevlar back panel compared to the usual black plastic. The scratch resistant Gorilla glass screen coating with nano technology doesn’t seem to have affected the picture quality of the AMOLED display, but couldn’t be properly tested.

Do you like what you know of the new RAZR so far?

Like the imminent Galaxy Nexus, the Motorola RAZR had been rumored for months. We’re pleased to say that the device is now official, and the new handset will be known...

Like the imminent Galaxy Nexus, the Motorola RAZR had been rumored for months. We’re pleased to say that the device is now official, and the new handset will be known as the Motorola Droid RAZR and as you may have guessed – it’s another Verizon exclusive.

Before we get onto the specs, let’s get the important release and price information out of the way. Both Motorola and Verizon confirmed that the device will be available to pre-order as of October 27th, ready for a release sometime in November – they didn’t give a solid date. However, as we have just informed you earlier on, the device may be set for a Verizon launch on November 10th, alongside the Galaxy Nexus according to a leak obtained by Droid-Life.

As for the price of the device, it will come in as $299 as expected for a brand new 4G LTE device, although you’ll probably be able to get it cheaper online if you hold out for a few deals from places like Amazon and Radioshack.

Now then, the crucial specs of the device have been revealed as well, and the rumors were correct – The Droid RAZR has been built with kevlar material and a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED “Advanced” display made of Gorilla glass. Motorola has also thrown in water repellent nanocoating features to help protect it from any liquid spillages near the device and confirmed that the Droid RAZR is now the ‘world’s thinnest smartphone‘ with a thinness of just 7.1mm.

Other specs include a 1.2Ghz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, a 1780mAh battery, 16GB of internal storage expandable via MicroSD, an 8 megapixel camera with 1080p HD video recording and wait for it – the latest version of Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread – yes, no pre-installed Ice Cream Sandwich unfortunately, but that would have been a long shot anyway.

So there we have it, the Droid RAZR is now out in the open. First impressions are that it’s a very decent handset, but consumers may have one eye on the Galaxy Nexus unveil first before taking the RAZR seriously. You can register your interest and check out the official product page over at Motorola’s website here.

What are your first impressions of the Droid RAZR – Good alternative to the Galaxy Nexus or not? Stay tuned for further coverage of the RAZR, including the lineup of interesting accessories that are available.

Recently promotional images of the Motorola Droid RAZR showed up on Engadget.com which gave us a glimpse at the RAZR’s design, now we have had a chance to take a close look at the images we have some exciting news about the technical specifications.

We have embedded an image below which gives us a look at the RAZR from three different angles, looking carefully at these it is clear to see that there will be 4G LTE connectivity (no surprises there), a camera capable of 1080p video capture on the rear (we presume this is an 8 megapixel sensor), there is also a flash on the rear and what appears to be kevlar coating on the battery cover.

Other things which are less exciting, but worth a mention, include a front-facing camera, volume rockers, a dedicated camera button and physical “Android buttons”.

What strikes us the most about the RAZR is its thin design, the image makes the majority of the smartphone look thinner than anything we have ever seen before (which is very impressive if our previous spec listing is accurate), but the housing around the camera, flash and speaker is thicker and very Droid X-esque.

If you head over to the official Motorola website you will be able to watch a video which tells us that the Droid RAZR is fast, thin, strong and smart – also a video ends with the dates 18. 10. 11 – which pretty much guarantees that the reveal will come tomorrow – perhaps it will be one of the first-ever Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich smatphones on the market as Google and Samsung’s event kicks off in roughly 11 hours (at the time of this post).

Do you like the look of the Motorola Droid RAZR?
