If you are still running Android 2.2 FroYo on your Motorola Droid Pro we have some great news for you, Motorola has begun rolling out the Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread update for your smartphone.

At the time of this post we had not come across a full changelog explaining what this update brings, however there should be a performance boost, security fixes, better app management and a new version of MOTOBLUR.

There has been no official mention of this update from Motorola (to out knowledge), however we are hearing that the update started hitting devices over-the-air yesterday. There is a chance that Motorola are carrying out a small update roll out to ensure that the process goes smoothly for everyone, we have seen this in the past.

As you can see there is still quite a lot of mystery surrounding this update, therefore we would love some feedback from you in the comments section below if you own the Motorola Droid Pro. Feel free to answer any of the following questions: Has the update hit your smartphone OTA? If so, what changes / enhancements have you noticed?

Earlier today we revealed that Best Buy were selling the Motorola Droid Pro for just $49.99 as part of a two-year deal, now we are hearing that Amazon has undercut this price.

According to a recent IntoMobile article Amazon want just $19.99 for the Droid Pro as part of a two-year deal with Verizon, you can see a screenshot showing this below (it has been edited in terms of layout but the pricing is correct).

As you can see the above image shows that you pay Amazon just $19.99 for the Droid Pro (here) and then monthly payments of $39.99 for the Verizon Wireless Nationwide Single Line Talk 450 tariff and $15.00 a month for the minimum data plan, this is the cheapest possible way to get hold of the Droid Pro as part of a Verizon deal.

If you were to do the same on Best Buy you would pay the same monthly prices, however would have to pay $49.99 for the Droid Pro (here), you can see a screenshot showing this pricing below.

To be honest with you even buying the Droid Pro from Best Buy is still a lot cheaper than buying it direct from Verizon Wireless, for the same price plans mentioned above you have to pay Verizon $179.99 for the handset, you can see this price here.

So there you have it guys, if you want the Motorola Droid Pro as part of a Verizon contract check out Amazon, if they are sold out check out Best Buy, but do not head over to Verizon's website and pay over the odds.

How much did you pay for your Motorola Droid Pro?

We’ve haven’t heard too much about the Motorola Droid Pro since it’s recent launch, but those of you still interested in picking one up should be very interested to hear about this deal that Best Buy are offering.

As reported from BGR, this is a rather good offer, since you’ll be able to pick up a brand new handset from Best Buy, for just $49 subject to a two year agreement with Best Buy Mobile.

From what we’ve seen, this is the lowest price for this handset on contract anywhere, as we’ve taken a quick peek at Verizon’s website, and they currently have it on sale for $179.99 on a two year deal.

That is a fair reduction in price from Best Buy, perhaps it is yet another attempt to spread the word that Best Buy Mobile can compete with the big boys? If you are interested in taking advantage of this deal, you can view the product page here – the deal is valid online too which is good.

At the moment RIM’s BlackBerry smartphones are dominating the corporate market, however many believe that the Verizon Wireless Motorola Droid Pro may give RIM some competition.

The Droid Pro will become available for pre-order tomorrow, it will cost $179.99 as part of a two-year deal (when you take into account a $100 mail-in rebate), it will hit stores on November 18th.

The Droid Pro works worldwide, it has a physical QWERTY keyboard and looks a bit like a long BlackBerry Bold 9700, apparently Motorola has given this smartphone better Microsoft Exchange compatibility, the ability to edit Microsoft Office docs, VPN functionality and much more.

If you check out this recent PCMag article you can see a full breakdown of all of the new and improved Android features which make the Droid Pro a true competitor in the enterprise market.

To be honest with you it is nice to see a smartphone manufacturer using Android for something other than an iPhone rival, it will be interesting to see just how RIM respond.

Do you need a smartphone for corporate usage? If so, are you seriously considering the Motorola Droid Pro 2?

We have some good news for those of you planning to pick up either the Motorola Droid Pro or Samsung Continuum handsets on Verizon, as it looks like we have a confirmed price for each, although it’s still to be verified by Verizon.

Engadget has managed to obtain an internal Verizon pricing document, and it reveals some pretty tasty information about the Droid Pro and Continuum, both eagerly awaited arrivals on Verizon.

The Droid Pro is thought to be priced at a very reasonable $179, which is considerably lower than previous $250+ predictions, Engadget also say that this handset will first launch on November 9th via Verizon’s pre-sales, with a full retail launch coming a week afterwards.

Those of you planning to get the dual-screen Continuum should be aware that Verizon will be charging $199 for one, subject to a contract with the carrier. We haven’t heard of any potential rebate deals in place yet though.

What are your thoughts on the pricing? Do you think $179 for the Droid Pro and $199 for the Continuum is reasonable or not? View the Verizon document in full over at Engadget.

We have some important news for those of you thinking of buying the Motorola Droid Pro on Verizon, as it looks as like the official price has been leaked before the handset goes on sale next month.

That is according to this report from Droid-Life, as they have taken information from an official-looking Verizon test website, revealing a $299 price for the BlackBerry-esque handset.

That $299 price relates to a two-year deal with Verizon and after a $100 rebate. For those of you who would prefer to buy the handset outright, expect to pay a hefty $499 for one.

What are your thoughts on this? Did you expect to pay $199 for this on contract, or did you predict that Verizon would make this one of their ‘premium’ handsets?

Furthermore, their report also states that the HTC Merge / Lexikon mentioned above could also be landing on the 11th – talk about spoilt for choice!
Sadly there is no sign of a Verizon iPhone, however there are four Android smartphones on their way, these are the Motorola Droid Pro, the Motorola Droid 2 Global, HTC Merge and LG enV Pro.

The HTC Merge is a regarded as a mid to high-end smartphone, it features an 800MHz processor, 512MB RAM, Android 2.2, a 5 megapixel camera and a 3.8-inch display, for more details check out all of our HTC Merge-related articles here.

Not too much is known about the LG enV Pro at the moment, therefore we will have to keep you posted as we find out more, so far rumors suggest that it will feature dual touchscreens, however this has not yet been confirmed.

A recent post on InformationWeek suggests that 10 new Android-based smartphones have already been revealed so far at the CTIA Wireless trade event, which probably means that Android’s market share will grow even more over the next 6 months or so.

So far most of the devices revealed have been mid-low end Android smartphones, with one exception, this is the Motorola Droid Pro, which many believe will be targeting RIM’s dominance in the enterprise market, you can find out more about the Motorola Droid Pro here.

Motorola has also showed us the Citrus, Bravo, Flipside and Flipout, you can find out more about the Citrus here and see specs, photos and prices for the Bravo, Flipside and Flipout here.

The underdog of the show so far for me is the Huawei Ascend, this will be available contract free for $150 from Cricket, you can then pay $55 per month for an unlimited deal, you can find out more here.

LG has revealed two Android-based smartphones so far at the event, these are the Sprint-bound LG Optimus S (here) and the T-Mobile-bound LG Optimus T, we have not yet spoke about the Optimus T, but we can confirm that it runs Android 2.2 and features a 3.2 inch screen and a 3.2 megapixel camera.

Finally Samsung has revealed two Android smartphones at the show, the Samsung Transform, which is being dubbed the mini Epic-4G, you can find out more about the Transform here, as standard it runs Android 2.1, however an update to Android 2.2 will be released.

Another Android-based Samsung smartphone at the show is the Samsung Galaxy S Mesmerize, this isn’t strictly a new smartphone as it is a re-badged version of the Fascinate, however it was worth a mention as it is coming to U.S. Cellular on October 27, you can find out more here.

Which is your favorite mid-end Android smartphone revealed at CTIA 2010 so far?

The Motorola Droid Pro has now been announced by Verizon, which Alan Ng discussed in a recent article. He also noted how the new smartphone looks like a BlackBerry, which is for good reason. It seems as though this is the first Android that wants in on RIM’s BlackBerry business market.

So what features does this enterprise Google Android handset come with? The first thing that is needed for any such handset is push email, which is then protected with corporate-level security. Another great and important feature is the Wi-Fi hotspot, allowing you to connect to another five devices.

Looking at some of the images over at Mobiledia, you will notice that it is not one huge touchscreen device – most BlackBerry handsets have a physical keyboard, as does the Droid Pro.

We already know that Android has started to close the gap on both RIM and Apple, but trying to compete in the corporate market is certainly a big ask. Can the Motorola Droid Pro take on RIM?
