Before we get started we must just clarify that benchmark results do not always equate to real-world performance, however they do show you just what the hardware within is truly capable of. Prior to seeing these results we were worried about the the iPhone 4S only having 512MB of RAM, however there’s no clear sign of this negatively affecting the iPhone 4S’s performance so far. One thing which we must mention is that iOS 5 GM was running on the iPhone 4 in all of the tests.

In the SunSpider Javascript benchmark (09) the lower the score the better the performance, the iPhone 4S scored 2222, which is roughly twice as good as the iPhone 4′s score of 3921 and the Motorola Droid Bionic’s 3983. In the Rightware benchmark it was much the same, in this test the higher the score the better, here are the results: iPhone 4S: 89567, iPhone 4: 51701: Droid Bionic: 53287.

If you thought that the Apple A5 chips in the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 were identical think again, in the GeekBench for iOS test the iPad 2 outperformed the iPhone 4S quite significantly (higher is better), you can see the scores below. This leads us to believe that the A5 chip has been underclocked to around 800MHz per core in the 4S, which probably does wonders for battery life. The same patten is shown in the GeekBench Integer Performance test.

Finally in two different GLBenchmark 2.1 tests the iPad 2 again proved dominant, followed by the iPhone 4S, that said the 4S still scored of treble the results of the Motorola Droid Bionic and roughly 7 times the score of the iPhone 4, so it goes to show just how much of a jump the new model really is in terms of graphical performance.

Check out AnAndTech for full details and all of the benchmark scores, we must admit we are delighted by just how well the iPhone 4S fared in the benchmarks, are you?

Mysterious problem affecting Droid Bionic http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/09/20/mysterious-problem-affecting-droid-bionic/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/09/20/mysterious-problem-affecting-droid-bionic/#comments Tue, 20 Sep 2011 12:32:36 +0000 Gary Johnson http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=140858 Recently the much delayed Motorola Droid Bionic was finally released to eager consumers to get their hands on. So far the majority of owners are really happy with the handset despite the issues surrounding battery life, which is not a problem restricted to the Bionic though. Now today we have news that a mysterious problem has been affecting the Droid Bionic for some users.

Engadget are reporting via the Motorola owners forums that some owners have reported a strange high-pitched sound when listening to media via a set of headphones. There are pages of owners complaining about the same noise, so it looks to be quite a big problem.

Owners are reporting they are being met with clicks and a background noise, which has been described as some sort of whiny pitch. Some of the owners on the forums have said they have recorded the noise, so they can try and get the problem solved by Motorola or Verizon. It is not currently known if it is a software glitch or a hardware problem.

One forum member posted “I had a huge feedback/whine when listening to Pandora. Everything was fine until I got a notification and the whine just about blew out the PC speakers. I couldn’t hear the music at all”.

The post length is lengthening all the time and at the time of writing there are eighteen pages of annoyed owners. You would have thought Motorola are working with Verizon on the problem before lots of owners return their handsets.

Do you have the Motorola Droid Bionic and have the same problem?

Motorola Droid Bionic review summed up http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/09/13/motorola-droid-bionic-review-summed-up/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/09/13/motorola-droid-bionic-review-summed-up/#comments Tue, 13 Sep 2011 00:11:14 +0000 Jamie Pert http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=140362 When the Motorola Droid Bionic was first revealed back in January consumers got to see a groundbreaking smartphone called the Motorola Droid Bionic, however the journey since then has been a long one and this impressive smartphone has only just been release – but was it worth the wait?

Well recently Engadget got their hands on the Droid Bionic and it has to be said that six months ago this would have been one of the best smartphones available on the market, however the seemingly never ending release date delays means that by the time it arrived the tech specs had already aged – that said the review is pretty positive.

You can see Engadget’s fully detailed review here, Engadget scored the Bionic 8/10 and complimented its vibrant screen, good performance and LTE connectivity – however they did say that it feels quite chunky and is a tad expensive.

Verizon Wireless will sell you the Droid Bionic for $299.99 as part of a two-year deal, now that price is at the top-end of any of today’s most impressive smartphones – the main problem is that there are now smartphones emerging with a 1.5GHz dual-core processors, this makes you feel as if you are paying over-the-odds for a 1GHz dual-core smartphone. The good news is that the general performance is great, but in the back of your mind you can’t help but think benchmark scores etc will be much the same on smartphones which cost you $100 less.

Engadget tested out the $300 Lapdock and say that it is a great idea and delivered pretty well, however on the whole it is an overpriced accessory – even when you take into account $100 saving which Verizon offer you with certain contract terms.

You should check out Engadget’s full review for full details regarding the Motorola Droid Bionic and the barrage of accessories available – the main issue is at the moment it seems great thanks to LTE, Gingerbread and performance – but the specs are soon to be obliterated by competition so it may just be worth saving your money and seeing if Verizon drop the Droid Bionic’s hefty price tag.

Droid Bionic wait almost over as pricing and release revealed http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/08/18/droid-bionic-wait-almost-over-as-pricing-and-release-revealed/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/08/18/droid-bionic-wait-almost-over-as-pricing-and-release-revealed/#comments Thu, 18 Aug 2011 07:11:17 +0000 Gary Johnson http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=139272 Yesterday we had the news of images emerging of the Droid Bionic alongside a new handset, the Droid HD. Today we have news that the Droid Bionic wait is almost over as pricing and possible release date are revealed.

The handset has been delayed for months now but for those still wanting the device the wait is almost over. Android Central is reporting that an SKU is showing the Droid Bionic to be priced at $587. The SKU which you can see below has the model number XT875, but luckily also say’s Motorola Droid Bionic in the description. This is for a SIM free version of the device, and it is thought Verizon will offer the handset with a two year contract for $249.99.

Android Central have also been tipped off that the release date is going to be August 26th, which is earlier than the Verizon road-map that suggested September 8th. This will be good news for all the potential customers who have been frustrated waiting for the device since it was first revealed all those months ago.

Meanwhile TechnoBuffalo have been sent some images from the Tips and Tricks manual for the Bionic. The display is confirmed as a 4.3-inch qHD similar to the Droid Charge. It also seems that Motorola will be giving the Droid Bionic the same connectivity options as the Atrix. This will mean owners will be able to connect the handset to an optional dock to use it as a laptop. It will also support MotoPrint for wireless printing to Wi-Fi enabled printers.

There will be ZumoCast which allows for owners to access and stream files from their home computer. The 8-megapixel camera has been confirmed with LED flash and 1080p video recording. There is also a front facing camera for video chatting. The handset has three microphones located around the device, and users can use the Bionic as a wireless hotspot for up to eight devices. Update: DroidLife have a Verizon listing showing the handset priced at $299.99 for release on September 8th.

Will you still be getting the Motorola Droid Bionic considering all the other handsets which are nearing release?

Move over Droid Bionic and welcome to the Motorola Droid HD http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/08/17/move-over-droid-bionic-and-welcome-to-the-motorola-droid-hd/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/08/17/move-over-droid-bionic-and-welcome-to-the-motorola-droid-hd/#comments Wed, 17 Aug 2011 14:25:00 +0000 Gary Johnson http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=139228 Many consumers have been waiting for the release of the Motorola Droid Bionic for months now. The much delayed handset looks to be finally coming out early next month, but the trouble is there are many other desirable handsets coming out including some from Motorola itself. It may be time for the Droid Bionic to move over and consumers to welcome the Motorola Droid HD.

There were many who were disappointed with the size of the Bionics display, but some images have appeared over at Engadget of the Droid Bionic that feature a handset with the name Droid HD alongside it. The Droid HD has what seems a 4.5-inch display that is thought to have at least a qHD display, and maybe even 1280×720 resolution as it is called the HD.

The handset seems to be running Android Gingerbread and has an 8-megapixel camera on the back with a LED flash, which has 1080p recording options. A Micro USB charging port and a Micro HDMI slot for showing content on your HDTV are also on the Droid HD. On the left hand side of the rather thin looking handset are slots for the SIM and MicroSD card, while on the other side there is the power and volume buttons

There are currently not many details of the device, but it will leave many potential Droid Bionic customers having even bigger second thoughts they may have already be having. The branding on the handset point to a Verizon handset, and although not quite as thin as the Galaxy S II it is not thought to have 4G compatibility.

As these images are from a possible tester in the wild the Droid HD could be set for release in the near future. This handset coupled alongside the likes of the iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S II, and Droid Bionic is giving consumers the nice problem of being spoilt for choice. Use the link above for more images.

Do you like the look of the Motorola Droid HD? Will it change your mind about getting the Droid Bionic?

Verizon users spoilt for choice as release dates leak for Bionic and Stratosphere http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/08/04/variety-of-verizon-devices-release-dates-leaked-including-bionic/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/08/04/variety-of-verizon-devices-release-dates-leaked-including-bionic/#comments Thu, 04 Aug 2011 11:47:21 +0000 Gary Johnson http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=138407 We recently wondered when the Motorola Droid Bionic was released, whether Verizon customers may decide on an alternative handset such as the Samsung Galaxy S II. Now Verizon users will be spoilt for choice as release dates leak for Bionic and Stratosphere, and are set to launch the same day.

Motorola have already confirmed that the Droid Bionic would release sometime in September, but now thanks to a leaked Verizon document courtesy of the guys at IGN, we have actual dates. The Verizon version of the Galaxy S II the Stratosphere, is due to launch on September 8th the same day as the Bionic.

Also listed for the same day is an unannounced 4G BlackBerry Curve, which wasn’t part of RIMs product launch yesterday. The company has previously said they were going to launch several new handsets before the end of the year.

There are also some other niceties due before the year is out, according to the document is the November release of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9. The actual document lists a Samsung Tab P8, which is believed to be the Galaxy Tab 8.9 equipped with Verizon’s 4G LTE radio.

The document also has a new BlackBerry PlayBook listed, but there are no further details of specifications or release time frame. September the 8th comes up again with the Motorola Xoom 4G LTE, which is the tablet already available but packing 4G connectivity. Other devices that are listed are the Samsung Illusion that has an expected September 29th release date. This is a more affordable device with 3G connectivity and Android Gingerbread on board.

On the same day sees the launch of the HTC Bliss that has been designed for the female cell phone market, and also powered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread. In October the HTC Vigor is listed for release on the 6th, and the handset is rumored to have a 720 x 1280 display with a 1.5GHz processor. Later the same month sees the LG Revolution 2 that is penciled in for the 20th.

September certainly see’s a lot of choice for Verizon owners as besides the Droid Bionic and the Stratosphere, we could also be seeing the iPhone 5. Owners who were waiting for the delayed Bionic are now met with the nice problem of having at least two other desirable handsets to choose from.

Which of the handsets will you be picking come September?

HTC EVO 3D September UK release coincides with Droid Bionic http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/08/01/htc-evo-3d-september-uk-release-coincides-with-droid-bionic/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/08/01/htc-evo-3d-september-uk-release-coincides-with-droid-bionic/#comments Mon, 01 Aug 2011 17:19:01 +0000 Chris Cook http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=138114 If you were hoping to get your hands on the current 3D smartphone being offered by HTC in the UK this month, then I’m afraid you are going to have to wait a little longer as the HTC EVO 3D appears to have suffered another delay, pushing the release date back to September. Another hotly anticipated handset is the Motorola Droid Bionic, which has also recently been delayed once more as we previously reported and its new release date could see it coincide with the EVO 3D.

As Rethink Wireless explains the EVO 3D has been available in the US for quite some time now and was due to release in the UK this July with Vodafone, but as the expected date drew closer the device found itself removed from the list on the carrier’s website where it was previously labeled as ‘coming soon.’ This suggested that yet another delay was the reason though it was not clear what the reason for the delay was.

Reports had also suggested that Vodafone were to drop the HTC smartphone completely, however those reports have since been rubbished and the carrier is expected to launch the device in a total of six European countries. The fact that the date has been pushed back so far, over a month, could mean that something significant has occurred but we will have to wait and see.

The new September launch date could prove to be somewhat of a problem for HTC as the Droid Bionic has also recently been rescheduled for a September release date despite several delays already. Though the Motorola handset is not a 3D device it is still packing some impressive specs. It is an Android smartphone that packs an enormous 4.5” display, full 1080p HD capabilities, an 8 megapixel camera with LED flash, a front facing camera and is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor.

The EVO 3D has some tough competition here despite its 3D capability advantage and some impressive specs of its own which includes dual 5 megapixel cameras, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, Android 2.3, front facing camera and a 1GB RAM. Also joining the competition is yet another popular smartphone, the iPhone 5. If its predecessors are anything to go by, this could prove to be the biggest threat to the sales of the HTC.

If these phones release around the same time which will you choose?

Droid Bionic hostility with release of Sprint/Verizon 4G Galaxy S II http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/07/29/droid-bionic-hostility-with-release-of-sprintverizon-4g-galaxy-s-ii/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/07/29/droid-bionic-hostility-with-release-of-sprintverizon-4g-galaxy-s-ii/#comments Fri, 29 Jul 2011 14:31:39 +0000 Gary Johnson http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=137937 Earlier today we gave you the news that the Motorola Droid Bionic will finally be released in September according to Motorola. But since the handset was first announced at the beginning of the year times have changed, and the mobile market has moved on. New handsets are coming thick and fast none more so than the Samsung Galaxy S II that finally nears release in the US, while the rest of the world have enjoyed it for a while now. But will the Droid Bionic be met with hostility with the upcoming release of the Sprint/Verizon 4G Galaxy S II?

It is not known for definite if the Samsung Galaxy S II will support 4G LTE but it is a possibility which will give consumers an interesting decision to make. The guys over at DroidLife recently run a poll asking readers if the Motorola Droid Bionic was still the device to have. The biggest response by respondents was yes, but only if the Samsung Galaxy S II doesn’t support 4G LTE. It beat responses from people who were still going to get the Droid Bionic by five percent.

Now Verizon are not the only network who may be getting the Samsung Galaxy S II with 4G LTE, as GottaBeMobile are reporting that the Sprint version has passed through the FCC with WiMax on board. The FCC filing shows a device called the SPH- D710 which got approval for CDMA/EvDO as well as WiMAX. The design of the device falls in line with images seen recently which means Sprint are close to releasing their next WiMax handset to consumers, and it looks like there is to be some subtle changes to the device which can be found in Europe,

While the Galaxy SII has been enjoyed across most places in the world, and some even look to be shortly getting a white version, consumers in the US continue to wait. The wait looks like it is almost over as a sign up page has recently gone live, and Verizon customers are rumored to be getting the handset first.

But unfortunately it is not known yet if the Galaxy S II will come in 4G LTE flavor on the carrier, with many Verizon customers will be hoping it will. With Sprint there could be some bad news for the Galaxy S II, as the carrier may be moving to LTE from WiMax eventually. But surely they won’t be planning this in the short term after releasing handsets that are compatible with WiMax.

Will you think about getting the Samsung Galaxy S II instead of the Droid Bionic if it has 4G?

Motorola Droid Bionic or iPhone 5: Tough decisions this September http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/07/29/motorola-droid-bionic-or-iphone-5-tough-decisions-this-september/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/07/29/motorola-droid-bionic-or-iphone-5-tough-decisions-this-september/#comments Fri, 29 Jul 2011 10:04:10 +0000 Gary Johnson http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=137893 The next couple of months are going to be a busy time with a whole host of new handsets coming out to the market. The Samsung Galaxy S II looks set to lunch next month in the US after the sign up page went live yesterday. The delayed Motorola Droid Bionic has now been confirmed for a September release, but this will coincide with the next iPhone. So consumers will have to decide on the Motorola Droid Bionic or iPhone 5 with some tough decisions this September

After seeing no new iPhone back in June at the WWDC event, Apple has decided to give us ‘major product transition’ in September. Meanwhile the Motorola Droid Bionic has been long delayed as the company made changes to the handset, which was originally put down to enhance the user experience.

But yesterday Motorola Mobility Chief Executive, Sanjay Jha, promised the elusive handset would be finally coming in September. But according to Cnet the company has some other interesting devices coming out during the second half of the year.

They plan to bring out another 4G LTE handset and two tablets are also planned. He said that Motorola plan to have a 10-inch tablet and a smaller version, which will be sold through carriers and retailers. He added that the consumer feedback of the tablet “feedback has been positive.”

The company is looking to take on the challenge of the forthcoming iPhone head on by having a strong product lineup. They are expecting a large jump in profits during the fourth quarter based on its new products. One thing that may be of concern though is the amount of consumers who already desire the iPhone 5 without knowing anything about it.

We reported recently about the survey which found 35 percent of respondents wanted to get the iPhone 5. The Motorola Droid Bionic does have many potential customers though, as not everyone wants an Apple product. But the long delay has allowed many other Android handsets become available which will have lost the Bionic some sales.

The consumers who gave up waiting and purchased something else will likely be tied into a two year contract, and by the time this will end something better than the Droid Bionic will be available. Which of the two handsets would you choose?

Droid Bionic: Multiple branding and consumer disinterest http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/07/22/droid-bionic-multiple-branding-and-consumer-disinterest/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2011/07/22/droid-bionic-multiple-branding-and-consumer-disinterest/#comments Fri, 22 Jul 2011 08:17:28 +0000 Alan Ng http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=137389 With the recent rumors about the Nexus 4G and Motorola Dinara shifting attention away from the upcoming Droid Bionic launch, it’s refreshing to hear some new details on Verizon’s highly anticipated device, or in this case – brand new pictures.

You’ll be pleased to know that the new pictures revealed on Amazon show what the back of the Droid Bionic looks like in high quality when placed inside its official multimedia dock. Having seen the picture, two things clearly stand out for us – the Motorola logo branding on the back of the device, and also the unique ‘hump’ that is likely to spark off a debate on whether it should be included or not.

Of course, it’s not the first time Motorola has featured a hump like this on their smartphones, as you may remember the hump included on the Droid X is very similar as well. It will be interesting to see just how many of you would prefer the Droid Bionic to be ‘humpless’ though, in favor of a squared-off design – would this make the Bionic more appealing from a design point of view for you?

The picture also confirms that the Bionic will ship with an 8 megapixel camera as previously speculated, while the multimedia dock itself comes with the usual HDMI, USB and audio connection ports for all your viewing needs. It’s clear that the marketing campaign has well and truly kicked off now for the Bionic after months of silent treatment, but are Verizon doing enough to lure consumers into a purchase? Speculation and hype usually do the talking for a handset of this magnitude, but after recent features on the Nexus 4G and Dinara as mentioned above, we have a feeling that many of you now do not want to pay $399 for a device which may become second best on Verizon as soon as either the Nexus 4G or Dinara are released.

We’ll save that debate for another time though, as we really want to gather your thoughts on the design aspect of the Droid Bionic. Are you truely a fan of Motorola’s hump design for the Droid Bionic, or do you really wish it wasn’t there? Also, how many of you would like to see the Motorola logo removed from the back? The brand lettering is already featured on the front of the device, so many will feel that further branding on the back is just not necessary by Motorola. If you include the Verizon 4G branding on top of that, that’s three pieces of branding that you may feel ruins the device from a design perspective.

What are your thoughts on the Droid Bionic design, are you a big fan or not?
