The Motorola Droid 2 is a mobile that is the 5th Droid phone to be released. Currently Verizon has exclusive rights to it. As do many phones do these days, the Droid runs on Android, the OS created by Google. The device is respectable and has a decent spec.

The Droid 2 has a 3.7” screen, 8GB of internal memory and it normally comes with an 8GB SDHC card, these are just a few of the specs. You can read the full specs directly from the Motorola website here.

This device has so many positives but of course, it has its negatives. There are some fundamental bugs with the device that happen when you do specific actions. An example of this is, whenever you power up the device it says “No Service”, this will change following the update. The device will no longer be resetting it’s self when changing from GSM/UMTS to the Global mode either. These are just some of the planned bug fixes, there are more including improved audio and a reduction in user interface lock-ups. Droid-life.com have an article that shows the software update sheet from Verizon, the update sheet shows what the improvements are, you can see it by clicking here.

Again, according to Kellex from over at droid-life.com the update will need to be done by going to Settings, then to About Phone, and finally System Updates to check for it. We don’t seem to have a release date for the update yet but we are hoping it comes very soon.

Have you been experiencing any of the problems that droid-life state? Is there anything that has been missed previously that you want in the update? Let us know in the comments below.

How many times have you been making a call with your phone, only to hear a popping sound? Well this is just what happened to one Motorola Droid 2 owner from Cedar Hill; but he did not expect the smartphone to explode in his ear.

According to Fox News, the incident happened when Aron Embry got into his car on Thursday and tried to make a call. After he heard the popping sound he pulled the phone from his ear only to find blood pouring from it. However, the events after the phone exploded were very strange.

Embry did not bother to call 911 after the incident, he waited until he drove where his wife works and got her to make the call. Before you say anything, I would just like to add that his phone still worked – so he could have made that call himself.

Aron now has stitches in his ear after the incident, but there is no loss of hearing. Motorola has now said that they would like to speak to Aron Embry to investigate the matter. There are those of you who believe that this story is a bit suspicious, but this would not be the first time that a cell phone has exploded. The iPhone suffered from this issue back in August 2009, which sparked off a fear that Apple’s smartphone could have been banned in Europe.

Have you ever had a phone explode on you?

Since we brought you news on the release date for the Motorola droid 2, we have also mentioned other news, which includes details on the v2.2.20 firmware update, Verizon’s early upgrade offer and deals at Best Buy.

Now we have some news on the Motorola Droid 2 Global (previously dubbed the Droid 2 World Edition). According to Evan Blass over at pocketnow.com (sourced from Engadget and Facebook), the handset has now been introduced via Verizon’s Facebook page.

If you want the new Smartphone, you will be able to get it on a contract that runs for 2 years with an initial $199.99 outlay for the phone (minus a $100 mail-in rebate offer). This phone’s SIM slot adds support for up to four GSM bands and it is equipped with a fast 1.2GHz processor.

Have you bought the Motorola Droid 2 Global, if so what are your thoughts?

We have some good news for Motorola Droid 2 owners now, as it has been revealed that a new OTA update is on the way to the Droid 2, and it will add support for user profiles as well as USB tethering support.

As reported from BGR, the information has surfaced from MyDroidWorld who were tipped off about the update by one of their Android sources.

Unfortunately, we have no idea when this forthcoming update will land on the Droid 2, but we do have some great preview images of the new profiles feature for you to look at.

Profiles will be similar to that seen on the Motorola Droid Pro handset (also on Verizon), and they will allow users to quickly switch between homescreen preferences to your liking.

Take a look at the images over at MyDroidWorld here, and let us know your thoughts on them. We’ll update you when we know a release ETA for the update.

For the last year or so we have been talking about the possible launch of a Verizon iPhone, today I thought I would mix things up and see if any AT&T customers wanted one of Verizon Wireless’s high end smartphones.

In this article we will talk about two of the most impressive Verizon only smartphones currently available, these are the Motorola Droid X and Motorola Droid 2.

Most people want to switch from AT&T to Verizon as they are not happy with AT&T’s coverage, however there must be some areas in Northern America where Verizon’s coverage is not as good as AT&T’s.

The Motorola Droid X and Motorola Droid 2 have extremely similar performance hardware, such as a 1GHz processor and 512MB of RAM, however the main difference is that the Droid 2 features a slide-out physical QWERTY keyboard, a 5 megapixel camera and a 3.7-inch display, whereas the Droid 2 has no physical QWERTY keyboard 8 megapixel camera and a 4.3-inch display.

You can see full specs for the Droid X here and the Droid 2 here, sadly they are both CDMA smartphones, therefore you cant unlock them and use an AT&T SIM, my question is would you buy either of these smartphones instead of the iPhone 4 if they were available from AT&T.

Last week we informed you that Motorola had started to push out a new OTA update for their Motorola Droid 2 handset. We have now been informed that this update should now start appearing for everyone.

As reported from Phandroid, the update last week was apparently only available for select Droid 2 users, which is why some of you were confused as to why you wasn’t receiving any notifications from Motorola.

However, a week has passed and you should be able to download the v2.3.20 update either via OTA or manually by going to your phone settings, and then to System Updates.

Help us out here a little bit – did you receive the notification last week, or have you only just had it from Motorola this week. If you haven’t got it, head to your phone settings, as you may be in for a surprise.

Much has been said about the impending release of the Droid 2 Global Edition, and although we have no concrete information on a date of release as of yet, we have also been wondering what would happen to the Droid 2 — Now, we have more of an idea.

The Global Edtion of the Droid 2 has been popping up all over the place, and according to a report from Droid-Life, November 11 will be the date you can expect to see the handset come to life.

This has left the Droid 2 feeling a tiny bit unwanted, but don’t fret as the ye-old Droid 2 is not going away just yet. You will be able to get this baby for $149.99 via the Verizon website, and it is expected to be available for that price till around January next year. You can see proof of this in the screenshot we have posted below.

But that is not all as the hugely sought after HTC Droid Incredible has also fallen in price down to $150 too.

Infact, the Droid Incredible is still incredibly popular around the world meaning that the Droid 2 might be in for a hard time when it comes to sales figures.

With both phones now available at a similar price, what phone would you go for if you had to make a choice? Decisions, decisions…

We have some good news for those of you who are looking to pick up the Global Edition of the Motorola Droid 2 handset on Verizon, as it looks confirmed that the handset will be available in a variety of colors.

We have seen some pictures of the white model before, but Engadget has obtained an image from Verizon’s rebate system which reveals that the Droid 2 global will be available in a choice of colors.

While the image doesn’t actually reveal what colors they are, this Droid-Life report suggests that the two model names relate to the white edition of the handset, and also a funky model in blue.

We haven’t seen any hard proof of this yet though, but a Droid 2 in blue certainly sounds rather tasty. We’ll update you when we hear more on this.

If you still haven’t joined the Android bandwagon and are looking to do so this holiday season, you’ll probably want to know about Best Buy’s special smartphone deals that they hold every Friday.

As reported from Droid-Life, some screenshots have confirmed that Best Buy will be giving consumers the chance to pick up the hugely popular Droid Incredible handset, along with the recently released Motorola Droid 2, for free whenever you sign up for a contract.

What does ‘free’ exactly entail though? Well basically, as long as sign up to either a New Family Plan or a 2-Year Upgrade Plan, both phones will be excused from the usual on-top fees that you’d normally pay for these.

More details on this can be read over at Droid-Life, but you might want to head down to your nearest Best Buy store today to check it out for yourself.

Those of you who own a Motorola Droid 2 may have already started to see that 2.3.20 OTA software update from Verizon has already started. There is said to be a number of improvements and enhancements, the most important being improved battery performance.

Two of the other updates that will prove popular with Droid 2 users are faster GPS location tracking and an increased changeover from Wi-Fi to GPS. These are just a few, but there are 13 improvements and 4 enhancements, lets take a look at some of the others.

Like the iPhone 4, the Droid 2 has suffered from proximity sensor issues; the accuracy has now been improved for a faster response time on the screen. Visual Voice Mail has also been improved, making things much simpler than before. Adding a video file to a text message has now been made simpler, along with improved sound and video quality.

Two of the best enhancements are the ability to export your contacts list to your SD Card, and finally being able to add images to your contacts. These are just some of the features included in the update visit Droid Life for more details.
