The new Android operating system is slowly getting dated to land on a variety of the platforms handsets, but as what is the norm for the platform many are only just getting the last Gingerbread version. Today we can tell you that owners of the AT&T Motorola Atrix 2 are receiving an OTA update, but the ICS upgrade remains a mystery.

Owners of the device on AT&T have begun receiving the Android 2.3.6 update so no ICS for now. The update that is arriving now will bring improvements to the camera, Google Music that will give owners access to millions of tracks including some free ones according to Android Police

The Motorola Gallery, Music and Files apps have been renamed to My Gallery, My Music, and My Files respectively. Security has been beefed up and Android security patches from Cisco Any Connect VPN and Google have been added.

Owners will now receive emergency alerts from the various authorities when issued such as hurricane warnings. There is now improved access to user’s library of Amazon digital books along with the entire Amazon library. Keyboard functionality has been improved to offer a nicer email experience.

There have also been improvements to the devices mobile hotspot to offer better stability and performance. So far there has been no official news on the ICS upgrade arriving, and on the company’s upgrade page it isn’t even listed. But it may have been a while since it was updated as it still lists the Xoom as running Honeycomb even though the Wi-Fi version is now on Android 4.0.

Are you hoping ICS comes to the Atrix 2?

A few days ago we told you that the upcoming Motorola Atrix 2 was unlikely to have LTE technology. Now today we have news of more Motorola Atrix 2 details that have leaked ahead of release, which had the previous codename of Edison.

When we reported on the handset before the details of the handset were sketchy, but now there have been more specifications revealed with some press images. According to This Is My Next the handset will have a 4.3-inch qHD display, and is believed to be powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor.

Other features include an eight megapixel autofocus camera with a single LED flash, and 1GB of RAM. It will have 8GB of on-board memory that can be expanded up to 40GB, and owners will be provided with a 2GB card with the handset. It is confirmed there will be no LTE, but the device may use a 4G indicator instead of H+.

The handset maker is claiming the device will have a talk time of 8.5 hours, with a standby time of almost sixteen days. The new Atrix will use a slightly smaller battery than its predecessor but the figures are almost the same. WebTop will be supported and will have a variety of accessories that include a Lapdock and HD Dock.

It will have a slightly different Lapdock that is identified as the Lapdock 100, and its description doesn’t go in to detail about anything new except it’s slightly smaller. It will also connect to the handset with a cable that goes on the upper edge of the handset, instead of just placing the device into the dock.

Will you be giving the Motorola Atrix 2 a look when it is released?
