A week rarely goes by without hearing of some news of various product recalls affecting either the automotive industry or other various products. Today we have some worrying news for you concerning some iPhone and iPod battery packs, as Best Buy and Mophie recall battery packs due to a possible fire hazard.

Both Best Buy and Mophie have issued separate recalls regarding some iPod and iPhone battery packs that could overheat. iPodnn is reporting that retailer Best Buy has recalled its Rocketfish branded iPhone 3G and 3GS battery case. While Mophie has also recalled some of its battery cases for the iPod Touch 4G.

With both sets of cases there have been some reports that they have overheated, which could also result in a fire. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission said that around 31,000 Rocketfish battery cases are affected in the recall for the iPhone 3G and 3GS in the US, while Canada has about 1,000. There have been fourteen cases reported to it and Best Buy of overheating in the US.

There were three reports of minor burns to owners of the cases, as well as four other reports of minor property damage. In another post on the CPSC website it is being reported that Mophie have received 110 reports of its iPod Touch case getting warm. There were also 44 reports of the case deforming with nine reports of burns to owners.

Consumers affected by the recall are advised to contact either Best Buy or Mophie with Best Buy offering customers a $70 gift card in the US or a $105 in Canada. Mophie are offering customers a replacement case.

Have you been affected by this latest recall?

We all know how frustrating it can be to run out of battery on your smartphone whilst you are out and about, especially if you are waiting for an important call. If you own an Apple iPhone 4, then the newly announced Mophie Juice Pack Air may be the perfect solution.

What makes the Mophie Juice Pack Air stand out from other rechargeable external battery cases is the fact that it provides users with more than just extra battery life. The design of the Juice Pack Air serves as a virtual speaker box, redirecting sound from the bottom of the handset to the front.

This of course results in a richer and fuller sound quality. The new Juice Pack Air is ultra-thin, lightweight and comes with a 1500mAh rechargeable lithium polymer battery, which provides users with up to an extra 36 hours of audio playback and up to 9 hours extra video playback.

It also provides them with up to additional 12 hours of talk time on 2G and up to 6 hours of extra talk time on 3G. The Mophie Juice Pack Air comes with a bottom cap snap design, an open top and cut out features, allowing easy access to the dock connector, power button, mute switch and volume buttons.

If you’re anything like me and tend to leave your Wi-Fi and 3G on, which of course drains the battery, then the Mophie Juice Pack Air case is the ideal buy. The case is now available to purchase at Apple retailers and online stores for $79.95. You can read more about the case via prnewswire.com.

Would you buy the new Mophie Juice Pack Air rechargeable battery case?

There has been a lot of talk on forums recently about how users are suffering battery life issues with their iPhone 4′s. Comments have been made that while with other devices users have been happy with a charge life of around four days, their iPhone 4′s have needed charging after just one.

Another said how the standby time is supposedly 300 hours, but on downloading the Battery Doctor app, their device was only showing 200 hours. Added to this, reports of a 45 minute call reducing the battery level to 90%. Apple itself stated that there was a 20% increase in battery performance over the previous 3G device.

In an attempt to try and cure the supposed battery life problem, some have given tips on how to extend the battery’s life. Iphonedownloadblog listed eleven helpful hints on things you can do, such as turning off push notifications, removing unused apps that are constantly running for no reason and switching of your 3G when its not needed.

Technologizer however have come up with probably the perfect answer in the form of the Mophie battery case. Designing external battery cases for iPhone and iPod, Mophie have built up a reputation for extending the devices battery life. Although in the past the cases were said to be rather bulky, the latest design for iPhone 4 comes out looking like a normal hard case.

Even though the battery extender has a slim design, it up’s the 1200mAh standard battery to a 1500mAh. A claim by Mophie says that it will give the user double the normal battery life, that’s roughly 6 extra hours talk time, 36 more hours of audio or 9 extra hours video playback. Priced at $79.95 and available through Apple Store, surely this is the solution to anyone’s battery issues.

While Apples latest gen iPhone is undoubtedly popular it has suffered more than its fair share of problems since its release. If you have experienced battery problems or found any other solutions let us know.
