Now that the 2011 Mobile World Congress (MWC) event has officially kicked off, we are starting to receive news about some of the gadgets that have been unveiled so far. One of those said devices is the Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) run ZTE Skate.

According to an article over at techradar.com, the ZTE Skate features a large 4.3-inch display, an Adeno 200 GPU, an 800MHz processor and a 5-megapixel camera. ZTE managed to sell over 1 million mobiles in the UK in 2010, despite not being a well known brand in the UK.

As Stuart Dredge over on the crave.cnet.co.uk website recently reported, the ZTE Skate – which is said to be a follow up to the ZTE Blade – features a slimline design, with a weight of 120g. It also features Wi-Fi connectivity, A-GPS and a built-in compass.

The Chinese mobile phone manufacturer says that the Skate will go on sale around the world sometime this May, although there have been no specific details about a UK launch. However, the ZTE Skate may well be rebranded for a UK network, just like the San Francisco.

Would you buy the Android 2.3 run ZTE Skate smartphone?

The 2010 Mobile World Congress (MWC) is just a day away, and the whole world will be able to learn what cell phone makers have planned for us over the next year. It seems that every week there is a huge event going on, and the MWC 2010 is no expectation.

When it comes to smartphones, the biggest selling is still the iPhone, and we hope to see a new version later this year. However, there are a number of handsets being launched this year that will compete with Apple’s phone. 2010 will see a host of new 4G phones being released; most of those will probably be on the Sprint network as they are the only carrier currently using 4G.

Expect to see a number of phones that have come direct from CES 2010, but we do hope to see a few new ones. We recently reported that Windows could give us some more news on how Windows Mobile 7 is going; we will just have to wait on that one.

For some time now we have seen Windows Mobile losing ground to Google and Apple, but Microsoft hopes that they will be able to mount their comeback in the cell phone market at next weeks MWC 2010 (Mobile World Congress). Many believe that it is too late for Windows Mobile, and that they will never be able to catch-up with Android or iPhone OS.

In an article over on the Telegraph, they warn that if you think that you have the latest cell phone, then it could look old-fashioned when MWC 2010 begins on Monday. Many battles are being thought behind the scenes, and things will come to a head at the event when we get to see what hardware advancements have been made.

When it comes to the touchscreen interface, rivals are still playing catch-up to Apple and its ever-popular iPhone. Google have been doing very well, but still have a way to go. However, when it comes to speech recognition, Google have set a benchmark, we now wait to see if the likes of Microsoft or LG can offer anything better.

Read more on what Microsoft will have to offer at the Mobile World Congress 2010 by visiting The Telegraph.

The 2010 Mobile World Congress will open its doors on February 15, and is being held in Barcelona. MWC event organizers hope that this year will be as popular as last years, where almost 50,000 people from over 180 countries around the world attended.

As you would expect there would be some big boys in the cell phone market attending, expect latest news on Windows Mobile 7, along with new iPhone and Android apps. We might even here something from Microsoft about the rumored Zune handset.

According to blog.laptopmag.com, we could get to see yet more giant phones, like the LG GW990. This phone with its huge 4.8-inch screen was on show at CES 2010, and certainly got some attention from the crowd.

What do you hope to see at MWC 2010?
