Following on from the huge news about Freddy Krueger coming to Mortal Kombat, we feel that it now opens up a wealth of possibilities for NetherRealm Studios to include even more non-Mortal Kombat characters in to the game.

We’re guessing that you were just as surprised as we were when we heard NetherRealm Studios announce Freddy Krueger as the fourth DLC character at Comic Con 2011 over in San Diego. Well, he’s definitely official and he’ll be coming to the PS3 and Xbox 360 on August 9th – full details on that, as well as how it relates to Marvel Vs Capcom 3 DLC in our previous article here.

With that in mind, we now want to focus our attentions on what DLC characters could and should be announced in Mortal Kombat following on from the release of Freddy Krueger, as we’re pretty sure he won’t be the last DLC release for the game. As you can see in the image above, one possible addition could be pinhead from the HellRaiser movies. You may think that this is pretty farfetched, but considering that NetherRealm Studios are willing to go outside the box and include someone like Freddy Krueger, the possibilities really are endless.

Again these are pretty long shots, but what about including the Alien and Predator into the mix? Ok maybe not since they need to be real people so to speak and have a proper background so they can tie into the Mortal Kombat story, but we’re sure NRS are thinking about the next character already, and we can’t wait to see who they add after Freddy.

One possible character that we can definitely see in Mortal Kombat is Michael Myers, the villain made famous in the Halloween movies. He could be a direct rival with Freddy Krueger, although you may think that Jason needs to be included if we’re talking about rivals for each character.

If we had to pick four movie based characters to be included in Mortal Kombat as future DLC, our picks would be Pinhead, Michael Myers, Jason and Scarface. Obviously we don’t expect NRS to include all four, but even just one of these characters would be awesome. What do you think about our picks, do you have any other possible ideas for future DLC characters as we’d love to hear your input on this.

On a side note, what other retro costumes would you like to see in the game? We have already had extra skins for the ninjas, Cyrax, Sektor, Kitana, Mileena, Jade, Smoke and Noob Saibot, so who should they include next? NetherRealm Studios will probably release two more free skins with the compatibility pack for Freddy Kreuger so we’d like to see the MK2 skins for Kung Lao and Shang Tsung, would you like to see these as well?

We have some good news for Mortal Kombat owners on either the Xbox 360 or PS3 now, as NetherRealm Studios have just unleashed the first gameplay trailer for one of the new DLC characters that will be added to the game roster soon.

That character is none other than Skarlet, as she was confirmed to be coming alongside fellow warrior Kenshin as part of the first batch of DLC. At the moment, there are no signs of Kenshin, but the gameplay trailer for Skarlet is as gruesome as it gets.

Players of older MK games in the franchise will remember Skarlet as the character who appeared as a glitch when selecting Kitana and Mileena. After continuous fan support for the hidden character, the developers eventually decided to make her into a fully fledged MK warrior, complete with her own sets of moves and fatalities. And the video below gives you a glimpse of what she brings to the table – lots and lots of blood. In fact, her abilities seems to be all blood based, just watch the trailer and you’ll see what we mean.

Expect the DLC to land soon, no official date yet. For those of you who are lucky enough to be attending E3 this year, you’ll be able to play as Skarlet at the Warner booth, according to VG247. We’ll let you know when we hear news about Kenshin.

Are you interested in picking up the Skarlet DLC for Mortal Kombat?

We have some good news for those of you with a copy of Mortal Kombat on either the Xbox 360 or PS3, but didn’t pick up one of the special pre-order versions from various retailers. Creator for the game Ed Boon has just revealed that you’ll be able to get your hands on all of that content in one single bundle.

This is fantastic for those fearing that the retro costumes and fatalities wouldn’t see a release for those with the standard version. It’s win win for everyone really, Mortal Kombat fanatics get another chance to get their hands on the extra costumes, while NetherRealm Studios get to make a little more cash.

Just to refresh your memory, the DLC pack will consist of alternate costumes for Scorpion, Reptile, Sub Zero, Ermac, Kitana and Mileena. And you’ll also get three retro fatalities for Sub Zero, Reptile and of course Scorpions where he rips off his mask and toasts his opponent.

No word on when this will be coming exactly, but Ed Boon said on Twitter it’s on the way soon, and that a trailer will release tomorrow to confirm the news. We wonder how much they are gonna charge for the content, hopefully it won’t be too much.

Will you be buying the retro content for Mortal Kombat or not? We bet there’s a lot of you who tried to sell codes on Ebay as well – how much did you mange to fetch for one?

We have some rather surprising news to bring you now, as we’re hearing that the upcoming Mortal Kombat 2011 game on the Xbox 360 and PS3 will feature Warner Bros’ Online Pass requirement, meaning that players will need to enter a code if they want to access all of the online features in the game.

The news has yet to be confirmed by Warner Bros, but an email received by Joystiq, has inadvertently confirmed things earlier than expected. The email explains that when the game reaches retailers on April 19th, the game will contain a code which you’ll need to unlock the various online modes in the highly anticipated gore fest.

It may seem pretty irrelevant to those of you who are getting the game from day one regardless, but what about those of you who are planning on buying a used copy? Well you’ll now have to pay $9.99 on the PS3, or 800 Microsoft Points in order to get a code from Warner Bros to play online, it sounds pretty harsh, but logical to them from a business perspective since a lot of other companies are doing it as well. If you choose not to purchase a code for the game, you’ll only be able to sample the online features for 2 days before you are swiftly removed from the servers.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you think this is a step backwards for Mortal Kombat? This info has only just come out, but as a gamer myself, I know there’s bound to be a few of you who will be furious about this. We’ll update you when we hear full details on the situation.

Yesterday we brought you an image which appeared to show the complete Mortal Kombat 2011 character roster list, and it now appears that the image is indeed real and the fighters shown are the core characters that will be available on the disc, with the inclusion of Kratos for the PS3 version as well.

If you haven’t seen the image, check it out again below. It looks like there are 28 fighters to choose from if you include Kratos not shown in the image, while one of the character boxes appear to be a random select option since it shows the same fighter in the bottom left and right corners.

And that fighter is of particular interest as well, as it reveals the inclusion of Cyber Sub Zero – a character whose identity is shrouded in mystery and has yet to be unveiled by NetherRealm Studios. We’re thinking they are pretty annoyed right now since this image has leaked out weeks before the game goes on sale officially.

Anyway, its out there so we may as well discuss what we can see. Out of the fighters shown, the new ones we can pick out (view bigger version here) are Kabal, Sheeva, Quan Chi and Human Smoke – sporting that crazy looking afro. Are you happy with the final choices, or are you disappointed that some characters have been left off the list?

For example, we know that Rain from Mortal Kombat Trilogy is a fan favorite, and if you have Cryax, Sektor and Cyber Sub Zero in there, why not include Robot Smoke as well – he was pretty bad ass in Mortal Kombat 3. Dont forget though, Ed Boon already stated that we would be seeing most of the characters from MK1-MKT so Rain and Robot Smoke may still come later via DLC, just like Kenshi and Scarlet who have already been announced.

Let us know your thoughts on the final roster list, and which character you are going to be using the most.

We have some important news for those of you planning to pick up Mortal Kombat on the Xbox 360 and PS3 next month, as we can confirm that there will be two characters coming via DLC, although we’re not sure if they will be free or paid for yet.

Without further ado, we can confirm that the two characters are Kenshi and Scarlet, as reported from VG247. Those of you who played Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance will recognise the name Kenshi, as he is the blind warrior wielding a Katana sword and possessing telekinetic powers.

Scarlet on the other hand, you may not be too familar with. She actually first appeared in Mortal Kombat 2 as a glitch when selecting Kitana and Mileena. Scarlet was essentially a red version of Kitana and Mileena, but we’re guessing that she’ll now have her own personality and set of moves which will make her unique in the MK universe.

It’s worth pointing out that MK creator Ed Boon has already stated that these two characters will not be contained on the game disc. There is often a heated debate which ensues once DLC is announced prior to the game’s release, with many arguing that the content should be featured on the full game, rather than having to pay on top for the extra goodies.

On a side note, we’ll also been made aware that there is an apparent image going around which shows the entire character roster for the first time. Obviously this isn’t official yet, but if it is true – then there are many characters which are yet to be announced, like Sheeva, Ninja Smoke, Human Smoke and possibly Kabal too. Take a look here and let us know if you think it’s legit or not, and which characters you can make out from the scan.

We recently brought you the very first Kratos PS3 character trailer and then hints about a possible exclusive character for the Xbox 360 version of Mortal Kombat, but now we have the first TV commercial that has just been released, and a second commercial which previews the upcoming Scorpion DLC.

The trailer is pretty awesome and it features the talents of Sonny Moore, which some of may known as Skrillax – a professional electro and breakbeat musician. He has come up with Reptile’s theme music, and we have to say that it fits pretty nicely with the carnage that is going on during the trailer.

It’s also worth noting that the trailer gives another glimpse of Shang Tsung, for those of you who didn’t see him in the Kombat Kontinues trailer that featured at the end of the Mortal Kombat demo that’s available now on the PS3.

That’s not all, as we also have the trailer for the upcoming Scorpion DLC, which you’ll get if you pre-order the game from GameStop. It features his classic outfit from the old mortal kombat games, as well as his famous fatality in which he rips his mask off and torches the opponent in a burning mess. Watch both trailers below and let us know what you think of them.

We seriously can’t wait for Mortal Kombat!

We have just showed you the very first official gameplay trailer for Kratos, but now we have some information which may excite Xbox 360 owners who are still feeling a bit frustrated that they aren’t getting an exclusive character on the Xbox 360 for Mortal Kombat.

It seemed a foregone conclusion that the Xbox 360 wouldn’t be receiving an exclusive character, unlike the PS3 which has God Of War’s Kratos, but some recent comments by creator Ed Boon may just offer Xbox 360 owners a glimmer of hope. Here is what he had to say in an interview with Giant Bomb, as reported from VGHQ:

”Well, there’s nothing that we have ready to announce but we love our 360 players and we love our PS3 players and I think everybody’s gonna get something they’ll be happy with.”

Obviously, this isn’t a clear cut confirmation that the Xbox 360 will get an exclusive character, but it’s clear that NetherRealm Studios are going to offer ‘something’ at least, to sweeten the deal on the Xbox 360 side of things. At the moment, Xbox 360 owners are clearly not happy with the PS3 getting Kratos, a Kratos stage and 3D support, so what are NetherRealm going to add to the Xbox 360 version of the game?

It’s the big question that everyone is waiting to hear the answer to. What are your thoughts on this? We still have a while to go until the April 19 release date, so there’s plenty of time for further reveals. Do you think the Xbox 360 will get an exclusive character in the end, or is it a case of fighting a lost cause?

We have a treat for Mortal Kombat fans now. We recently informed you about a new trailer that was unlocked in the PS3 demo of the upcoming game which gave a glimpse of new character Kratos. An extended version of that trailer has just unveiled some brand new gameplay for you to enjoy.

We’ve not sure how this video has come to light, but we need to thank the guys over at MKUniverse.Lu for the clip. This is definitely the world’s first gameplay video for the God of War hero, so enjoy it below while you can.

We see some of his signature weaponry at his disposal in the clip, and it looks like a fatality on Sub Zero is also shown in the blurry video as well – it looks pretty tasty we think you’ll agree!

Hopefully NetherRealm Studios won’t tease us anymore and give us a real solid look at Kratos in high quality. Don’t forget, Kratos is a PS3-only exclusive character, so you’ll want to pick up that version of the game if you want to use him. The game is due out on PS3 and Xbox 360 on April 19th in the US and April 22nd over in the UK.

The video is below, let us know your thoughts on the first gameplay for Kratos. Is this a definite day one purchase for you?

This video is rather special, as not only does it show off some unseen gameplay footage, but it also reveals the inclusion of some brand new fighters that haven’t been announced by NetherRealm studios yet.
