Mitsubishi i MiEV electric car going to California

There are reports that Mitsubishi could be about to test their i MiEV electric car in California. The car maker wants two utilities to put the small electric vehicles through their paces and hopes to get an idea at just how well they perform in everyday life.

Mitsubishi has now signed a deal with Pacific Gas & Electric and Southern California Edison; they will be adding the i MiEV EV to their fleets in October. The demonstration program will last for three years and in that time the two Californian utilities will test to see how well the drive train works, along with reliability and usage on the grid.

Mitsubishi executive for the i MiEV program, Tohru Hashimoto has said that “its work with the two California utilities will yield valuable data and a greater appreciation of the practicality of an all-electric vehicle in California.”

The i MiEV EV is based on the “i” gasoline-powered cars that Mitsubishi sells in Japan. The electric version of the car will do away with the 64-horsepower engine and will replace it with a 47 kW electric motor and 330-volt lithium-ion battery. The battery takes 10 to 16 hours to charge when plugged into a standard 110 volt electrical outlet. When you plug it into a 220 volt outlet it will take just 6 to 8 hours to charge.

Even though the electric motor is only small, it still manages to produce 63hp and around 133 pound-feet of torque. The car should go from 0 to 60 in less than 9 seconds and have a top speed of 82mph.

Suzuki SX4t comes with a Mitsubishi 16G GT3 turbocharger

When the Suzuki SX4t first hit the market we did feel that the car had an odd shape however; it did have some great aftermarket potential. Suzuki also realized that there could be more to come from the SX4 which is why they asked Road Race Motorsports for a little help as Suzuki wanted to showcase a SX4 concept at the Chicago Auto Show.

Well it looks as though Road Race Motorsports done a superb job and have given us the SX4t, as you know with this tuner firm they always add their own body-kits as well as upgrading the wheels and brakes, as well as a few engine mods. However; the best thing that Road Race have done is to add a Mitsubishi 16G GT3 turbocharger, the 2.0-liter four-pot engine only used to be able to push out 143 hp but with this turbo fitted the Suzuki SX4t will push out 224 hp, that’s a huge increase.

The result is a 0-60 time of just a little under 7 seconds, that’s in the five-speed manual model. Although Suzuki have only asked Road Race Motorsports to add these features onto this one concept, it seems as if the Japanese automaker have given the tuner their blessing. This could mean that you could take a visit to your local Suzuki dealer and pick up a SX4t. The cost of the new Mitsubishi 16G GT3 turbocharger is $5,400 once it comes on the market this June, however you will then have to pay Suzuki a fee for fitting the device

Mitsubishi Blu-ray recorders can store HD content on to standard DVD’s

Mitsubishi Blu-ray recorders can store HD content on to standard DVD’s
Mitsubishi have released two new Blu-ray players, the 500GB DVR-BZ200 and also the 250GB DVR-BZ200. Both of these players have support for Blu-ray’s AVCREC specification, what this mean is that you can record around 2 hours of Full HD content on a standard DVD disc.

However as always there is always a catch and that is the standard is only limited to ISDB broadcasts, this means that you can only use this service in Japan at the moment. However it should not be to long before we start to see more AVCREC capable devices.
