There have been lots of great games coming out in the last few weeks for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Despite both consoles being around for a while now and the constant speculation of the next versions being round the corner, there is still plenty of life in them yet. Today we have an article looking at reasons why the PS3 will eventually outstrip sales of the Xbox 360.

The PS3 is five years old this month and Sony have sold over 55 million PS3s since it was first launched. The console has a long way to go to match the sales of its predecessors though, as the original PlayStaion has sold 102 million units so far and the PS2 153 million. It is beginning to hold its own to its nearest rival though the Xbox 360 and according to IGN will eventually outsell it as well.

Microsoft’s Xbox 360 became available one year earlier than the PS3 and has sold 57.6 million units worldwide so far according to Microsoft themselves. That means the PS3 is sitting around 2.1 million behind the Xbox 360 regarding units sold, after being available one year less. If you look at the average sales of each console for each month the numbers on in Sony’s favor.

During its life time the Xbox 360 is selling around 800,000 units per month, which compares to the 925,000 the PS3 is selling. If you use these averages and took out the year head start the Xbox 360 had you get 48 million units sold instead of the 57.6 million. But if you were to give the PS3 an extra year it would have shifted 66.6 million units.

In the US the Xbox 360 is still outselling the PS3, but in Europe it’s a totally different matter while in Japan the Xbox 360 support is almost nowhere to be seen. Taking the worldwide sales into account the PS3 will probably overtake the Xbox 360 sometime next year.

You got to remember we are not looking at what console is the best, but there a few reasons why the PS3 is quickly closing the gap on its rival. There are more PS3 exclusive titles available and the often knocked PSN service is largely free to use. You also have to take into account the high failure rate of the Xbox 360 when it first came out.

Why do you think the PS3 is selling more globally than the Xbox 360?

The latest Xbox released by Microsoft is the slimmer Xbox 360 S, and while its hardware is pretty much the same, although it runs cooler, it would be nice if we had a few improvements added. The next-generation Xbox, aka 720, will certainly ramp-up the hardware but what we’d like to see is better security.

We’re not talking about online security here, although we know this is a hot topic following the hacking disaster that affected PS3 users, what we would like to see is some hardware security to protect your precious Xbox. This could keep your Xbox secure just like the latest lock up security kits, although we’re sure this will not be included. With this in mind lets look at the current security offerings for today’s Xbox.

Using a security kit, you will be safe in the knowledge that your console will be locked for your use against theft. The Xbox slim security kit has a slot located in the back and comes with a keyed lock and a seven-inch steel wire cable. For older models, the steel plated anti theft design is available where the security plate is attached to the top of the Xbox with specially designed pin that will connect in the side ventilation slots. This secures the hard drive and the console with use of the wire cable.

To assemble and set up this safety procedure takes less than a minute. When it is attached to its fixture, it will withstand over 300 pounds of torque. This is the first anti-theft protection product for your Xbox 360 and Xbox 360 Slim and seems to be a great idea to protect your valued console.

The Xbox slim is the sleek redesigned version of the original Xbox 360 just smaller and quieter. The Valhalla motherboard allows for around 30% more space than previous motherboards. The Memory Unit slots found on previous consoles have been removed in favor of the USB flash drive solution added in a previous system software update. The power and eject buttons are touch sensitive rather than the physical buttons found on previous models.

The idea that your Xbox could be stolen or tampered with is not nice, but with the new security kit, you can lock up you Xbox 360 and Xbox 360 slim away from intruders. For more information on pricing and availability, visit newPCgadgets.com.

The E3 event is underway and it was first kicked off by Microsoft. During the company’s press conference they announced several new and exciting developments including footage and details from the upcoming game Halo 4 and more footage from the game Modern Warfare 3.

Another announcement was of the new Kinect Sports: Season Two game. The new game’s predecessor was Kinect Sports which included six different sports in which players could take part in. The games included Football, Beach Volleyball, Table Tennis, Track and Field, Boxing and Bowling. You can head over to CVG for some screenshots of the new game.

We previously brought you news of an update for the original Kinect Sports games called Calorie Challenge. The new game’s E3 announcement earlier today also revealed that it would include six new games. These include American Football, Tennis, Baseball, Skiing, Golf and Darts as well as the original sports.

New features also include a voice activation control and new gesture functions which make interaction more fun. The example which can be seen in the video below is of a player saying out loud the club she wishes to use in order to change it.

Will you be getting this new game? What do you think of E3 so far?

Having already confirmed that there will indeed be a sequel to the game The Darkness, we can now bring you news of what you can expect from The Darkness II, thanks to an article about a preview over at Gaming Update.

The gameplay of the sequel will be based similar to that of the first. It’s a FPS style where you will play Jackie Estacado again. It is set two years after the events in the first game and according to the article by CM Boots-Faubert the demo throws you straight into the action with the opening scene seeing Jackie being crucified by ‘the crippled man,’ a character that doesn’t yet have a name.

Gameplay will also allow the use of a mixture of weapons and also using the demon arms that your character has. Weapons include the Winchester pump shotgun, mini-Uzi and the 1911 Colt .45, while the arms can be used to impale enemies with pipes and throw objects at them.

The full article can be viewed by clicking the link above where you will find a detailed breakdown of some of the features in the game including the Demon Arms and also the return of the Darklings.

What do you think of the preview? Does it convince you into wanting the game? Let us know if you plan to purchase it or not in the comments.

Since its release, Magicka has become an instant hit with RPG fans all over the gaming world. So much so, that even the developers did not envision the popularity it has gained which has lead to many talks regarding future DLC releases, and the possibility of the game being released on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

With its impressive conception on the PC, the Arrowhead team behind the game have made it frequently known that they wish for Magicka to be made available to all gamers, which means expanding the release to other consoles such as the Xbox 360 and PS3.

According to Joystiq, who spoke with the Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt, they say that the console version is very much already in the works, and the only roadblock thus far comes down to Microsoft and Sony who are yet undecided on whether the game will come out on their respective consoles.

This is what Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt had to say when asked what the delay was down to: -

“We’re working on bringing Magicka to consoles — we are, really. The problem is that it’s not up to us. It’s up to Sony and Microsoft, really, but we’re working on getting it to consoles. That’s the way it should be played.”

Magicka, with impresive sales of over 200,000 copies since its release on January 25 costs just $9.99 from Steam, and is a bargin for any RPG enthusiast.

Have you played Magicka yet? What are your views on it’s unique playstyle? Would you prefer to play this if it was released on your console of choice?

With 2011 fast approaching, it seems like it is going to be an expensive year with all the titles coming. The whole of 2011 is going to be difficult with massive releases such as Killzone 3, Resistance 3, Batman: Arkham City and Fight Night: Champion. You just aren’t going to know what to get!

Whilst we were thinking about the upcoming games in 2011, it brought back a lot of memories of previous consoles and games that were on them. It was at this point we decided to put together a list of games that we want to see make a come back, but this time, graphically redesigned.

Number 5 on our list that we would like to see make a comeback is Street Racer. The best version of this is believed to have been on the SNES and Megadrive back in 1994-1995. Imagine a game like that today with the graphics of Gran Turismo 5; surely it would be a hit?

Next up is two of the funkiest aliens around, Toejam & Earl. This was a game that saw the gaming world meet humor as two alien rappers crash landed on earth. The 2 player co-operative was another selling point for the game. We are aware of Toejam & Earl 3: Mission to earth but we are thinking of more up to date graphics with the same funky sounds, perhaps involving some of the artists of today.

Streets of Rage was fantastic, running around the streets beating up the bad guys. Axel Skate and Adam were amongst our favorite characters from the series. Each player had a couple of special moves that you could perform to dish out a lot of damage, or to get enemies away from you when there are many. We are open to suggestions on how this popular game would make its way onto the up-to-date consoles

Zelda: A Link To The Past could be easily re-made and put onto the Wii, as long as they followed the story line and didn’t make it too cartoon like, it would surely be a success. The game was epic and not easy, especially when you end up in the Dark World. For us this was one of the best installments in the entire series of Zelda titles, would a new perspective on a great game sell?

The top game we want to see remade is an absolute classic, Separation Anxiety; this saw Spiderman and Venom teaming up to fight off the symbiotes. This was a truly fantastic game and would fair well from a makeover on either the PS3 or Xbox 360. Check out the soundtrack at the bottom of the article.

Are there any other classic games that you would like to see remade on the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii? Let us know in the comments below.

There isn’t any doubt that the Xbox 360 Kinect is an extremely popular device. We have been reporting to you various news about the Kinect, including its battle against the ‘PS3 Move’ to win the Christmas sales and how the Kinect sold more than 2.5 million units in a single month.

As previously predicted, the sales are between 3-5 million units at this point in the year. Could they break the 5 million marker? It’s entirely possible. They passed 4 million units sold on the weekend commencing December 11th and with it being the Christmas season, undoubtedly, gamers will have the Kinect on their Christmas list.

The rivals to the Kinect are the Nintendo Wii and the PlayStation Move. The sales aren’t looking too bad for the Wii with it having sold 2.9 million units, however the PlayStation Move is sadly lacking at 900,000. If you are thinking of getting the Kinect but aren’t entirely sure it’s for you, then head to the bottom of our article where we have a demonstration video of it in action.

This year we have been blessed by many good racing games on both the Xbox 360 and the PS3, we have already done a comparison between the latest Gran Turismo and Forza with a video of the two games side by side.

Forza Motorsport 3 has some cool features, the ability to record your races and then upload them to the official Forza Motorsport site. You can roll your car and the underside is very detailed. This xBox 360 title has had rave reviews and an array of awards, but is it as good as other racing games when compared to the best?

Gran Turismo 5 is a driving simulator; this is the first in the series to feature damage to your car and weather effects. The team at GT5 has also teamed up with the UK based show Top Gear and we have heard that GT5 will include the Top Gear Race track. You can learn a bit more about GT5 from their official site here.

F1 2010 was released on the PS3, Xbox 360 and the PC so stands quite a good chance in our poll. The game is based around the 2010 season of the F1 championship. The game contains the most complicated system for the weather that has been seen in any racing game, understandably seeing as F1 drivers have to cope with the changes. This is a well thought about game with a good career mode and realistic gameplay.

Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit, another great Need for Speed game, this is in fact their 16th title and they seem to be going strong. This is a different type of racing game as it involves not only racers but the police too. You can play as either a racer or a police car and take part in a full career mode for each one.

If you don’t like any of these games then hit “Other” and let us know your preference in the comments below.

As the battle between the Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and PlayStation 3 continues, games becoming exclusive to each console has become common. We are going to talk to you today about a few games on the Xbox 360 that look pretty impressive and are all planned to be 2011 releases.

Some of the most talked about Xbox exclusives some of which are still rumors are the likes of Halo 4, Gears of War 3, Project Draco and one that I like the look of Codename Kingdoms. Previous releases from the series of Halo and Gears of War have been extremely popular and there doesn’t look like anyway that these will not exceed all expectations, as did their predecessors.

Halo 4 is still rumored at the moment, but I can see no reason as to why they would stop one of the most successful franchises at Halo Reach. What, have they run out of ideas? Surely not, the creativity that has been pumped into the Halo games is second to none. The other thing to remember is they don’t necessarily need to continue the story, they could jump back towards Halo Wars and create a sequel. I found a pretty good thread that will keep you up to date with and further rumors surrounding Halo 4 which you can view here or head over to their official site here.

Onto Gears of War, one of the most playable franchises of all time sees their latest game Gears of War 3 released on April 5th 2011. Let’s hope that the game has a decent storyline this time round to match its incredible graphics and addictive gameplay. If you want to learn more about Gears of War 3 then head over to their official site by clicking here, you can get involved with the community, view screenshots and watch some of the videos. We have also included the gameplay footage from E3 courtesy of realidad20 at the bottom of the article to get you thinking about it. Unfortunately we are going to have to wait for a little while to get our hands on it.

Some others that are exclusive to the Xbox 360 that we haven’t yet mentioned are the likes of Codename D, Steel Battalion Heavy Armour, Rise of Nightmares, Xcom, Haunt and of course, Star Wars Kinect. To read more about these titles head over to OXM.co.uk, we also found a few other exclusive releases which you can view over at gamethirst.com where Ernice Gilbert has written an article.

Which of these are you looking forward to most or is there a different game you are after? Let us know in the comments below.

Well done to all of you that opposed the removal of the Halo Wars stats being removed, your efforts have paid off. Microsoft is now saying that the plans to remove the stats are no longer, they have been abolished. The original deadline was December 15th but now it will continue past that.

Whilst the stats are staying it doesn’t mean that they cannot move the location and that sounds like what might be happening. Currently you can view your stats by visiting the Halo community website here. IF you want to know a bit more about Halo Wards then go to the bottom of the article where we have included a demo video for you.

Microsoft said in a statement “After seeing the reaction and passion from ‘Halo Wars’ fans as well as ‘Halo’ FPS fans who were concerned about the future of other ‘Halo’ titles, we determined that the previously stated plan of action was not in line with our intended plan of loyal support for ‘Halo’ games,” they also said “The Halo Wars and Halo Waypoint forums will still be merged,” the company added. “But other than that, nothing changes.

What do you think of this decision, are you please? Let us know in the comments below.
