We have spoken about the Microsoft Pink for some time now, and now the project has finally been unveiled at the Microsoft’s ‘It’s Time To Share’ event! We can now tell you that a pair of handsets called the Kin One and Kin Two are to be manufactured by Sharp.

These new handsets will have many of the same features as Windows Phone 7, but with a few changes. The user interface is totally different though; this is because the Kin One and Two have a custom interface, browser – based on Zune.

Engadget reports that these new Pink handsets will have no third-party app support. However they will come with multitouch and capacitive support. The Kin One is the handset that we all assumed was the Turtle and comes with a 5-megapixel camera, QWERTY keyboard, and 4GB of internal storage.

The Kin Two is only different in the way of double the storage. Verizon is the carrier who will be offering the Kin One and Kin Two, and will be available from pay.

Many of you will already know that Microsoft is to hold an event today to launch its new Pink project phone range – with the first expected to be the Turtle. Not sure why they have gone with that name – but we can tell you that leaked images of the new social network cell phone has appeared on the Internet.

Softsailer believes that these leaked images is all part of Microsoft’s marketing strategy – why else would they appear on their website? The handsets will be heavily marketed by Verizon, and will be aimed at the younger market – this is due to its social networking features.

Apple, HTC and RIM must be laughing right now at this new handset, why market something that only has limited features? The younger generation are not only interested in Facebook and Twitter – they also love music, movies and much more. We are not certain how well the Pink Project handsets will do in these other areas.

The Turtle and other Pink handsets will be manufactured by Sidekick and will run on the new Windows Phone 7 OS. Although we know that Microsoft will announce the launch of the phone today – we are not certain on a release date.

We reported to you early in the week that Microsoft was to hold an event; many assumed that this will be to announce the launch of its new Pink project– you know the handset that is shaped like a turtle. There will be other news coming from the event, but it is the launch of Pink that will grab the main attention.

You have to wonder how Microsoft will ever be able to top Apple’s iPhone OS 4.0 preview event last week. It is no secret that this new range of handsets will not be able to compete with the huge range of upcoming handsets, HTC Incredible, HTC EVO 4G and the rumored iPhone 4G – but that is not Microsoft’s attended target.

Instead, the software giant hopes to entice the younger generation with a host of social networking features. According to Paul Suarez from PCWorld, there is to be two handsets from the Pink range, Turtle and Pure – although these are just codenames.

We know that Verizon is backing the Pink Project with Microsoft and is pushing the social networking side of things hard with the slogan, “It’s time to share. Let’s get social”. One thing is certain, Microsoft will have to do some hard selling on the Pink project – let us see what they can do at the event tomorrow.
