Real Exclusives Raise Bar: Sony PS3 vs Xbox 360
July 24, 2008 by Daniel
Filed under Gaming, Sony Playstation 3, Xbox 360

Recently on the MTV’s multiplayer blog we read a few comments Peter Dille, Vice President, Sony Computer Entertainment of America made about exclusives and how they affect the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 sales.
What’s interesting is the view Peter Dille has on exclusives that then become non-exclusive and the real exclusive games.
One game that comes to mind is Final Fantasy XIII, this was going to be a Sony PS3 exclusive and then Microsoft open their wallet wide to get FFXIII on the Xbox 360. This will bring sales to both games systems.
Microsoft paid well for Grand Theft Auto and now it’s not an exclusive on their platform, it’s now a cross-platform game. GTA4 sold well on the PS3 and the Xbox 360.
The real way to raise the bar with the Sony PS3 or Xbox 360 is through real exclusives. Games cost a lot to make and less exclusives may be around in the future, but for now the ones that become real exclusives help raise the bar for a games console.
In Dille’s own words “look at what happens when you have Metal Gear Solid on your platform, when the NPD numbers come out… I think you’ll see the value of what a real exclusive title does and how it raised the bar for PS3 versus 360”.
We have seen the results from June’s NPD numbers and how MGS4 helped take the PS3 to another level, real exclusives on the 360 will also do the same for that system.
With games being expensive to make, the developers want that investment in a global marketplace and Dille believes the PlayStation format is the best place for exclusives.
It’s true that the PlayStation 3 has passed the Xbox 360 in Europe and dominates in Japan, the Xbox 360 is winning in the U.S. but the game developer will want to think Global not just United States.
Depending what happens in the U.S. will shape what games become exclusive and also how much money Microsoft wants to spend from that big bank balance.
We may end up seeing less exclusive video games, but when we do see them they will help raise that system to new heights.

June NPD Results: Sony PS3’s Metal Gear Solid 4 Top

What does it take to top the NPD sales figures chart for games software sold in June, well it looks like Metal Gear Solid 4 did the trick for the Sony PS3.
Its said that over 1600 companies rely on the research that NPD carries out, so you have to take the results they show as a pretty creditable source.
In the past multiplatform games have topped the NPD charts but this time Metal Gear Solid has such a large following that the PS3 exclusive MGS4 not only helped sell Playstation 3 systems but also became the no.1 sold game in June.
The NPD research also showed how the games industry is growing even in the middle of a credit crunch, this June’s software sales was up 61% compared to the same period last year.
Did you help MGS4 get to the top spot and if so what do you think of the game so far?
In fifth place was Nintendo Wii’s Play with Remote (359.100), fourth place went to Wii Fit that comes with a Balance Board (372.700), third was taken by Ninja Gaiden II for the Xbox 360 (372.700), second was Guitar Hero On Tour for the Nintendo DS (422.300) and of course first was PS3’s Metal Gear Solid 4 with a massive 774.600 units sold.
MGS4 Playstation 3 Trophies and support in Warhawk
July 2, 2008 by Daniel
Filed under Gaming, Sony Playstation 3

There has been a lot of rumor on what games will support Trophies before today’s PS3 2.40 firmware update and more importantly MGS4 Trophies. At first we heard rumors that the game may have support already built-in and this turned out to not be true and today we found out what’s happening right now for Trophy support with Warhawk and Metal Gear Solid 4.
When will we get MGS4 Trophies? As PS3 Daily puts it “It will happen but it is a matter of when” and that could not be more right, we know that MGS4 is getting Trophies but there is no official word on the release date for a game update. If you have any tips on this then leave them in the comments.
Having just updated my Playstation 3 to firmware 2.40, I love the new features as mention in Peter’s hands-on review, but my Trophies section just says “No Trophies” and like many other gamers I want to play games that support these because we all love to achieve and collect. MGS4 fans will just have to wait to a game update is available.
Warhawk is another story, it currently does not have support in the game version 1.31 and the next version is said to be v1.4 and sadly that will not support Trophies. PS3 Daily reported “The trophy support for Warhawk will not be found in v1.4, sources say that it will be found in the v1.5 patch, as far as we can see neither v1.4 nor v1.5 patch has fixed release dates but hopefully should be pretty soon”.
When you update your PS3 to the latest firmware you will get the trophy feature, but for now you will be limited on what games have support for collecting these and you will not find the massive games like MGS4 or Call of Duty 4 supporting Trophies just yet. We will update you when we get some solid information on dates.
In stock soon: MGS4 Limited Edition Sony PS3 package

For those of you who were left a little disappointed after waiting for the release of the MGS4 Limited Edition Sony PS3 package, only to find that stock was in short supply. Well you might be pleased to learn that there could be some new stock coming soon. When you think of a Limited Edition bundle you think that it will be something special, but the Limited in Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle meant they only had limited stock.
The problem that stores had, was the fact that these 80GB MGS4 bundles were flying of the shelves at an alarming rate, but do not despair as stocks should be coming back in sometime in July. A spokesperson from Sony Style, has said “Due to overwhelming demand, the product is currently unavailable. The new estimated time of arrival date for when this will be available is the beginning of July.”
However; Sony has not yet issued any number as to how many Limited Edition bundles will be coming in, but hopefully it will be enough to keep a few fans happy. An SCEA representative has said “While we can’t provide specifics on inventory levels, the Metal Gear Solid 4 PlayStation 3 bundle is a limited-edition offering that’s experiencing high demand from Metal Gear and PlayStation enthusiasts. Were pleased with the strong consumer interest in the bundle and are working to ensure that additional shipments are provided to retailers.”
It seems that Sony underestimated how popular the MGS4 Limited Edition Bundle was, it seems that gamers will just have to be patient.
Metal Gear Solid 4: Cheats and codes on Sony PS3 already

Metal Gear Solid 4 has not been out that long, and already there is a huge list of cheats. Some of you might hate the idea of cheats and will want to complete the game under their own merit. Well some of you might not be all that great at games like this, so these MGS4 cheats will be very welcome.
However; to be able to use these cheats you need to enter different passwords to unlock the cheats, but to do this you need to complete the game in single player. Once you have completed this mode this will then unlock the Password option in the Extra’s menu. Then all you need to do is enter one of the passwords from the huge list at Cheat Code Central.
Metal gear Solid 4 is set in a battle scarred future, war is more of a business now which is carried out by mercenaries and machines. The visuals in the game are totally stunning and set new boundaries in gameplay. The new control system has been refined, this helps for some of the coolest gameplay ever, you as the player will have to guide an older Snake through this war torn world to help bring the game to a conclusion, and sadly the conclusion to the end of the Metal Gear Solid series.
MGS4 also offers full support for the new rumble DualShock 3 controller, as well as superb 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound. What helps to make the game more complete is the addition of online gaming, this comprises of five stages which have been created using Guns of the Patriots technology. Up to 16 players are able to join in a game at any one time.

Metal Gear Solid 4 (MGS4) helps push Sony Playstation 3 Sales beyond Nintendo Wii
June 20, 2008 by Mark

The Playstation 3 (PS3) has beat Nintendo Wii for the 3rd time, all those PS3 gamers will be happy to know that the Sony console has outsold the Wii and this is thanks to the awesome game Metal Gear Solid 4 (MGS4).
The PS3 has outsold the Wii worldwide for the week of June 7th to June 14th; well this is what VGChartz has reported. To break it down this is basically the 7th time the Sony PS3 was able to outsell the Nintendo Wii in the States, but in Japan this was the 3rd time. We say the mega PS3 console sales is all thanks to the release of Metal Gear Solid 4, and with the Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle for example the Wal-Mart deal which features a $100 gift card with the purchase of any PS3, you know that is an amazing deal.
We could put a number of reasons why the Sony PS3 dominated the Wii; want to hear them do you? Well how about these for example: 1) Nintendo Wii shortages, you know hard to get hold of the damn things and this could possibly be why the PS3 dominated. 2) Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle helped the PS3 sales. 3) Sony PS3 is more superior (maybe).
Why do you think the Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) dominated the Nintendo Wii in sales for the week of June 7th to June 14th?
Will Metal Gear Solid 4 (MGS4) make you buy a Sony PS3?
June 16, 2008 by Daniel
Filed under Gaming, Sony Playstation 3

PS3 Daily said the other day that Metal Gear Solid 4 was Sony’s answer to Halo 3 and also showed us some new MGS4 gameplay videos, today we ask if Metal Gear Solid 4 will make you buy a Sony Playstation 3?
Having owned a PS3 for some time, I do not need to buy one but when the PS3 gets exclusive games and ones that are as big MGS then you got to think that this will increase sales. The amount of PS3’s sold for gamers getting MGS4 is the real question. This could be a massive increase or just minor.
If you do not own a PS3, will you buy one for MGS4?
As the game has now been released worldwide we will see the results of this new release within the next month or two. MGS4 does look pretty cool and some of the games features do look fun, these include being able to distract enemy soldiers by planting playboy magazines and the different ways Snake can use camouflage. The game is said to have a massive single player game, but with any game these days, it’s the online gameplay that is key to long-term success.
Let us know your thoughts of MGS4 and also check out some gameplay videos on PS3 Daily.
Metal Gear Solid 4: video review for Sony PS3

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, is the story of snake, who has become one of the most popular characters in the industry, is about to come to a close. We have all been teased with a number of trailers, but now we players can finally get to see how great this game is. MGS4 is both impressive and uncompromising, it’s sure to inspire just as much love, hate, discussion, and debate as any other game in the series. The genetically modified super snake has now been transformed into old Snake, this is due to a rapidly accelerated aging process, while battling this condition, Snake has to travel the globe in pursuit of his brother, Liquid.
The game starts of in the Middle East; it then moves to Latin America and then arrives at a key location in Metal Gear history. While wrestling with some heavy themes as well as following an old man trying to save the world before he bails out of it for good, Guns of the Patriots, lays every last card the series has left on the table. The game takes on questions from past titles as well as calling in every last character still standing to play their role in the game. It is so much to take in, even if you do enjoy the cut scenes, it is sometimes too much. The sometimes bloaty and messy effort to sort out the back story can completely eclipse the immediate plot as a result the games flow and urgency is damaged.
Metal Gear Solid 4 is a beast in terms of design, but it can still be described as a linear stealth action experience design, divided into several acts, and spanning about 5 different environments. Your objective in the game is to move from point-to-point in a pre-determined path in order to trigger your nest objective, in order to advance in the story. Maps are large, but yet still restrictive to the players movement. When you reach an objective marker, the odds are that something significant is about to happen.
You will make it through the game with the help of a few allies, most important being your friend and tech support guy Otacon. In addition to loaning out the mark two robots, which is capable of scouting out enemy positions and sometimes delivering the occasional electric shock, Otacon also hooks you up with the Solid Eye Imaging Device, and the user friendly Octo camo system, this automaticilly changes your camouflage pattern to your surrounding.

Man it is so hard to believe that MGS4 has been going for 20 years, and to celebrate that we have the MGS4: Guns of the Patriots: 20th Anniversary Trailer. It seems like yesterday when I was playing this on a Sony PS1.
The sad thing is we could be seeing Snake for the very last time as this could be the last Metal Gear Solid game. When that happens, it will be a sad day in the gaming world.
