Earlier this week we spoke about the lack of games on the PS Vita, but the good news is that there are some great titles on the way for Sony’s new handheld that should breath a new lease of life back into the system.

One of these games is undoubtedly the highly anticipated Metal Gear Solid HD Collection which is set to release at the end of June. The game will include full versions of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and it is the latter which we have some gameplay to show you.

Konami has generously provided an preview walkthrough of what you can expect to see when the Metal Gear Collection lands and we have to say that it looks like Konami has done a good job of not only bringing a PS3 game to the Vita, but enhancing it as well.

They emphasise that the team isn’t cutting corners with the collection just because it’s on a portable machine. All the original cutscenes are included with the game, while we finally get to see some of the unique touchscreen features that Konami has implemented into the collection as well. One example is being able to zoom into cutscenes at free will – it’s not overly amazing, but a very nice touch nevertheless.

Enjoy almost 10 minutes of unedited gameplay courtesy of Konami’s Kevin Vlaming below. Are you still planning to pick this up, or are you confused that the original Metal Gear Solid game isn’t included in this? It should at least come with a PSN download voucher if they couldn’t include it on the PS Vita card.

We have some good news for those of you who have been waiting patiently for the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection to arrive on the PS Vita. Konami has finally come out and announced a release date update for the game.

The portable version has been a long time in development of course, while the console versions are freely available to pick up now on the Xbox 360 and PS3. The good news though, is that the Vita version will contain exclusive features, the most notable of which is the Transfarring feature which will allow gamers to transfer save files from console versions straight to the Vita.

Konami has announced this week that you’ll be able to pick up the Metal Gear HD Collection on the Vita in late June, although unfortunately they still cannot commit to a solid release date. This isn’t the most frustrating aspect at the moment for Metal Gear fans with a Vita though, as if you didn’t already know, the portable version will not come with Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.

Peace Walker comes with the console version of the game, but we’re guessing for storage reasons, Konami won’t be including this on the Vita version. Instead you’ll get the original Metal Gear 1 and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake games, as well as the HD ‘remakes’ of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and also Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

Don’t ask us why the first Metal Gear Solid PS1 game isn’t included on Vita either – apparently this is a Japanese special only. Japanese versions will get Metal Gear Solid 1 instead of Peace Walker, while all other versions will come without both. If it is a collection though celebrating the history of the great franchise, you would think that the logical thing here would be to include the original Metal Gear Solid game which is arguably one of the best games of all time.

Regardless of the controversy though, the collection is still looking like a great addition to the PS Vita, which is in dire need of some fresh games to play. Let us know if you plan to pick up the collection for your Vita and also your opinions on the omission of Peace Walker. Is it a big deal to you or not?

We have been keeping you updated with information on some of the PS Vita games you can expect to see at launch, but one notable game that gamers are keeping an eye on is the Metal Gear Solid HD collection, which will be available after the new portable launches.

The HD collection has just been released for Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles in the west, but Hideo Kojima and his production team are still working on bringing the same collection to the Vita. Thankfully, we now have an update to bring you on the status of the portable version and that comes in a series of teaser images from Mr Kojima himself.

The legendary creator has teased a few images such as the main menu screen, as well as some specific story dialogue accompanied with some Metal Gear artwork, as detailed by AndriaSang. Both screens as you expect look rather stunning on the Vita’s 5-inch OLED screen.

That’s not all we have to bring you though, as Kojima has also revealed that the Vita version will feature new gameplay elements to accomodate the Vita’s touchscreen controls. One example of this has already been confirmed via the rear touch back controls, as players will now be able to knife opponents by flicking the rear touch pad once you perform a stealth takedown.

We imagine that Kojima is thinking of even more ways to incorporate touch controls into the Vita version of the game, but we’re just glad that they are putting in the extra effort to make the Vita game unique compared to the console versions. This combined with the exclusive ‘transfarring’ game save system make the Vita version very appealing and surely a must buy for all Metal Gear fans who pick up the Vita on February 22.

Hopefully it won’t be too long until we have a release date to bring you, but in the meantime let us know what ideas you have in terms of adding more touchscreen features to the Vita version. Perhaps Kojima can incorporate the camera in some way as well?

The news we have today may cause a mixed reaction amongst Metal Gear Solid fans, as the HD Collection was recently released to gamers in the US and to commemorate the launch Konami has also released a trailer teasing some of the improved graphics. This could be seen as rubbing it in the face of UK gamers, who might find themselves a little jealous as they will not get to experience the revamped collection until February next year.

The Metal Gear Solid HD Collection includes visually enhanced versions of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. The trailer which can be viewed below shows us clips from all three new versions. It introduces each game individually in a sort of PowerPoint presentation style before comparing the new graphics to the old and allowing us to revisit the first ever experiences of Metal Gear Solid.

Earlier in the week Siliconera brought us a clip that was released by Konami and is typically epic. It is over nine minutes long and shows us a sneak peek of the brand new HD visuals that feature in the HD Collection, specifically in this case the Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker remake. From what we have seen we are more than impressed with the graphics, especially when you consider the original game was released on the PSP over a year ago.

We previously brought you news of the limited edition bundles that were available at Zavvi, the electronics retailers. Only 4,000were obtainable and they featured all the content that comes with the console HD collection, except also included Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots as well as a PSN code that allow access to the download of the PSOne game Metal Gear Solid. Will you be getting the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection?

Konami has well and truly kicked started this year’s E3 announcements in style, by unveiling upcoming HD collections for Metal Gear Solid, Zone of the Enders and also Silent Hill. The big talking point though, is that they will no longer be PlayStation 3 exclusives, as they are coming to the Xbox 360 as well.

During a pre-recorded press conference, legend Hideo Kojima made the news official, revealing that Metal Gear Solid HD Collections will be comprised of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and once PSP-exclusive, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.

The games won’t run on an emulator direct from their previous incarnations, instead they will all feature updated visuals, a brand new HD user interface and also trophy and achievements support as well.

As for Zone of the Enders, the HD collection will consist of the first game, as well as The Second Runner, as reported from VG247. No release information for the new games yet, hopefully Konami will announce this during E3.

Firstly, what are your thoughts on the collections? Are you surprised that they are multiplatform? We’re definitely surprised that Peace Walker is coming to the Xbox 360 now, after first being a Sony PSP exclusive. Also, it’s interesting that the original Metal Gear Solid PS1 game is not included in the collection, perhaps Konami has something else in store for that.

Give us your thoughts on Konami’s bombshell. We’ll update you when we know more details about the MGS HD collection.
