With this in mind, it was obvious that Mercedes were to test the next generation of safety features in the S-Class ESF hybrid concept. Read more

The Mercedes-Benz owned by Daimler (NYSE:DAI) introduced to us the McLaren SLR Stirling Moss at the Detroit Auto Show this year. This is to be the last version of the McLaren SLR line. The car is like Marmite, you either love-it-or-hate-it, but I have to admit, it stirs up a passion in me.

Bang & Olufsen ICE in new Mercedes AMG cars
August 13, 2008 by Peter Chubb

When it comes to performance and power there is no denying that Mercedes AMG cars have plenty of it. However; when it comes to their ICE or In Car Entertainment Systems these cars have always lacked a little.
Things are about to change as Bang & Olufsen will now be the entertainment system of choice for Mercedes AMG. Now we will have an overpriced sound system to match these over priced cars.
This is not the first time that B&O have worked with a car maker; they have been putting their system inside high-end models of Audi for some time now.
The coming together of Bang & Olufsen and Mercedes AMG seems like a match made in heaven. I do worry that having such a great sound system will drown out the noise of the beautiful engine.
Now I am a little upset, as I now have to get in my Ford Mondeo and switch on my Ford sound system.

Pope Benedict XVI uses Mercedes popemobile for American trip

So Pope Benedict XVI has started his trip of America which means that he will travel around in his popemobile. So let us take a closer look at this Mercedes vehicle that will be used for this American trip. The car was shipped over more than two weeks ago from Rome, and you will notice that this vehicle does not look like any other Pope Mobiles that we have seen in the past, however none have ever been a Mercedes before.

No matter where the Pope goes in his car people will know it is him as the car has a six-foot tall glass enclosure that the pope stands up in. This is not any ordinary Mercedes though it is a Mercedes ML 430 which is custom built. On each door you will see the Vatican coat of arms as well as a special license plate which reads SCV 1; this is an acronym for the name of the Vatican in Italian.
The car is upholstered in white leather, but it is not all about comfort in the Popes car, the glass is double-pane and bulletproof. The pope can unwind the windows if he wishes, however I am sure that security official’s advice against it. As you would expect the Mercedes is heavy but the 272 horsepower engine with its automatic transmission will be more than powerful enough to pull the car along. However as you would expect the driver will not take the popemobile over 10mph.

German carmakers Mercedes and BMW have registered their interest with Magna over their MILA Alpin concept car. This vehicle of the future is capable of using a variety of fuel sources and can also reach speed of up to 120mph.
The Magna MILA Alpin is able to climb 45-degree angles, which is superb for a car of this type. Mercedes is already working on a 4-wheel-drive A-Class sedan and BMW are in talks with MILA so that they can work on a sound platform for a BMW version of an electric car.

Mercedes CLK to preview shooting brake concept at Paris Auto Salon

Mercedes is getting ready for the Paris Auto Salon show in October, according to reports the German Automaker will preview their shooting brake concept. OK at first I was not sure what shooting brake meant, and was surprised to learn that it just means three-door estate wagon or an extended hatchback, weird.
The Mercedes CLK Shooting Brake will show at Paris 2008 as a concept, the styling of the car should be like the S-Class sedan. Only time will tell if this variant will be a success or not, but one thing is sure, Mercedes are trying hard.
