Today we have news of 137,000 Mercedes SUVs being recalled due to the cruise control being faulty.

Peter Valdes-Dapena over at CNN Money.com is reporting the problem concerns the M-Class SUVs, and the vehicles cruise control may not disengage straight away after the driver touches the brake pedal. When working correctly cruise control systems should switch off as soon as the brake or gas pedal is pressed.

Under certain situations the cruise control system is only working if an excessive amount of force is used on the brake pedal before it will switch off. This was stated in a letter that Mercedes sent to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on March 31.

The system can still be shut off if the driver uses the stalk mounted on the steering column which controls the system. The vehicles involved are model year 2000 to 2002 Mercedes-Benz M-Class SUVs, and M-Class AMG SUVs from 2000 to 2004.

Owners can call the Mercedes – Benz customer service at 1-800-367-6372, and the recall is expected to begin in September as Mercedes want to ensure that it has enough replacement parts.

As reported from the Wall Street Journal, the German manufacturer is recalling some of their popular classes with diesel engines, as they have discovered a problem with the fuel filters which could lead to leaks.

According to the report, Mercedes-Benz are recalling their 2011 model, diesel engine versions of the M- , GL- and R-Class vehicles which were built between November 2009 and October 2010. If you have a December 2009 to October 2010 diesel-powered E-Class Mercedes-Benz, you are also affected by this recall.

No injuries have been reported yet, but you can imagine the dangers of spilt diesel-fuel which could become a serious hazard to other drivers on the road. There are more details on this recall over at the WSJ. Let us know if you own any of the models listed above.

There is said to be a problem with the steering, which in some cases affected vehicles could become hard to control.

This is not the first auto recall due to steering issues, only last week GM had to recall the 2010 Cadillac SRX, more details can be found here. Mercedes-Benz said that the problem is due to a fitting that might not be tightened enough on the power steering line, as this is a high pressure system this could force fluid to pump out.

According to NYTimes, the German carmaker has said that there could be an instance when the driver could not have as much control as they should, the most obvious time would be when trying to park.

However, if you were to lack control of the steering while driving on the highway, then this could lead to a crash. It is not thought that any accidents have occurred, but there have been a number of complaints from unhappy customers.
