If you’ve ever wondered how the C7 Corvette Stingray will compare to some of its rivals, then you are in for a treat, as there is a spy shot that shows the 2014 Corvette Stingray lining up against an Audi R8 and McLaren MP4-12C. That’s not all, the new vehicle from Chevrolet is also seen testing alongside a Ferrari 458 and a Porsche 911 Carrera S.

It’s certainly a real treat to see the C7 ZR1 driving around with those vehicles mentioned above, all of which you can see in these spy photos. Seeing the new version of the Corvette next to the likes of the McLaren MP4-12C is proof that the C7 ZR1 will be no slouch, and rumors of more than 700 horsepower proves that.

Having said that, we know that cars like this are great when on less-demanding tracks, but add in more than your fair share of corners, as we’re sure the R8 and MP4-12C will show the C7 how a car should truly handle.

We do hope the 2014 Corvette (C7) Stingray will be very different, and with Chevy suggesting that the new ZR1 will have world-class performance fills us with some confidence. They are certainly building the car up, as it’s also said the new C7 will give you one of the best driving experiences from a sports car, although we do find that a little hard to believe.

Let’s say that Chevy has been able to improve the handling with their new sports car, we do hope the C7 ZR1 interior is a vast improvements, because this is a key area where they have lacked in recent years, whereas their rivals have excelled.

Personally, I feel that the Corvette will never be able to compare to the likes of Ferrari or Porsche, but when it comes to the amount of power compared to the price, the Corvette will be a tough nut to crack.

We’ve already seen the McLaren P1 specs and how they compare to the Ferrari LaFerrari, but we’ve not seen much footage to show us how the car behaves around the track, well apart from a very conservative drive around a track with Sergio Perez.

However, a new video has just been released where the McLaren P1 handling is pushed to the limits on a surface far different to what the hypercar was designed for. The reason for this was because the Woking, England outfit needed to give the P1 some much needed winter testing, and so took their latest creation to the Arctic Circle.

McLaren P1 winter test

Okay, so it’s not like one of the 375 owners will ever use their P1 in such conditions, but durability testing like this is nothing new as the likes of McLaren needs to learn how their vehicles will react in such extreme conditions – well that is what they say.

There is said to be more testing ahead of the first delivers in a few months time. McLaren is renowned for their attention to detail, so seeing the images of the P1 racing around in these arctic conditions is no surprise.

I do find it strange why the McLaren P1 is still adorning its camouflage, and the fact that this looks more like a photo opportunity than a handling test. If you would like to see this hypercar in person, then the McLaren P1 will be attending the Goodwood Festival of Speed this year.

Thanks to McLaren.

We knew both the McLaren P1 and the Ferrari LaFerrari were going to come with similar specs because of them being hybrid and calling upon years of experience in F1. However, each company will go about things in a very different way, such as one having a smaller engine, but opting for extra power from turbo chargers.

Since the P1 and the LaFerrari were showcased at Geneva last month we learned so much more, but since then news has been a little stagnant. After doing a little digging we have learned that Ferrari has released a LaFerrari configurator, which McLaren has yet to do so for their P1.

Okay, so the Ferrari LaFerrari configurator is limited because you can only select three different colors, but we are told potential buyers can choose whatever color they like. However, being able to select different wheels and interior colors would have been nice as well, although not sure Ferrari would want you to change those aerodynamic efficient wheels.

We doubt McLaren will even bother releasing a P1 configurator, especially when we have just learned that around 75 percent of the 375 units have already been sold. One would presume most of the 499 LaFerrari’s have also sold, especially when you consider more than a thousand people made requests to purchase one of these hypercars.

Going back to Ferrari’s LaFerrari configurator, even though the options are limited, we are sure the Italian car manufacturer will cater to a buyer’s need, such as making different choices to the LaFerrari interior, for a price of course. We would also imagine McLaren will do the same for P1 buyers.

See a video of both these cars doing what they do best around a race track, and see if you can see which of the two handles better?

We already knew that the Enzo successor was going to make its debut at Geneva and we also had limited details on its specs, but what we did not know was its official name. We can now tell you that the name for the new hypercar is the Ferrari LaFerrari and will be a direct competitor to the McLaren P1 because they both have a racing pedigree and the fact that they are a form of hybrid.

While we learned most of the technical specifications of the LaFerrari, some important specs were still missing, such as weight. However, we now know its performance figures and they are comparable to the P1, which are a 0-62 mph time of less than three seconds for both models and a top speed of 217 mph (although 230 mph has been rumored) for the LaFerrari and 218 mph for the McLaren P1, although this could go faster but has been limited electronically.

Ferrari LaFerrari vs. McLaren P1 tech specs
Image above thanks to Motor Authority

Above you will see the main specs of each car pitted side-by-side and it’s interesting to see how two different companies can produce a hypercar that are pretty similar in their performance – a lot like F1 in that respect. However, it won’t be until we can see both the Ferrari LaFerrari and McLaren P1 in a drag race and what their times are on the all-important Top Gear test track that we can see just how close or far apart they are.

Personally I much prefer the P1 because I feel that there is too much going on with the LaFerrari. If you are spending a vast sum of money on a car it is nice to have a focal point, but there isn’t one with Ferrari’s new beast. Having said that, this new hypercar does look insane, which is something that we know appeals to those who have the funds to purchase such a car.

Ferrari and McLaren assumed that they had to only worry about each other during the Geneva Motor Show in a few days time, but it seems as though another hypercar is preparing to oppose them. The vehicle in question is the Lamborghini Veneno, but while the specs seem standard for a hypercar the price does not as there is a rumor that this could be £3.1 million, which converts to $4.4 million.

The successor to the Ferrari Enzo and the upcoming McLaren P1 specs seem evenly matched, such as around 900 horsepower and the fact that both make use of KERS, the Veneno is rumored to come with a 740 horsepower engine. However, don’t think that this will be a slouch because that’s pretty similar to the power from the Pagani Huayra.

So what makes the top secret Lamborghini Veneno so expensive? Well according to a leaked magazine article the specs of this new hypercar all attributes to the astronomical price, such as the 6.5-liter V12 engine, 7-speed single-clutch transmission, carbon fiber canards that are out in the open and the brutish styling.

All of this technology is rumored to help propel the Lamborghini Veneno to 220 mph, which would be 3 mph faster than the P1. However, we do know that McLaren has designed their car to be fast around a racetrack rather than worry about top speed.

There doesn’t seem to be many people who love the design of this new Lambo (if true of course) because it looks overdone in all areas, something that we will never see with the new Ferrari and what we already know of the P1.

When we think of the ultimate supercar we not only think of the Bugatti but also cars from another era, and the McLaren is right up their with the best of them. The company has tried several times to repeat its success, but has failed to do so over the years. However, with the McLaren P1 full specs and also top speed now being announced we have to say all the pieces are in place.

Before we take a look at some of the key figures, we have to point out that the top speed of the P1 is 217 mph, and while some people will ask why this is, we have to remember that in order to unleash the true potential of the P1, McLaren had to limit their new hypercar.

We had assumed that McLaren would share all the tech specs with us at Geneva next month, so nice to see that they have treated us to this news early. The P1 is said to have the quickest time around the Ring, and we can see why when looking at figures like a 0-62 mph of just under three seconds and 0-124 mph will take around seven seconds, which is about 23 percent faster than the McLaren F1.

Some may ask how much faster the P1 would go if it was derestricted, and while we would also like the answer to that question you have to remember that this would change the dynamics of the car and make it handle in an erratic way.

What’s more important top speed or lap times? If you are looking for a car for its top speed then might we suggest the Veyron. McLaren know that some owners of the P1 will want to use their new purchase to take onto the track, and we already know that the P1 will blow the Veyron out of the water on lap times.

The price of the McLaren P1 will be £866,000. For all the technical specifications head over to McLaren. We can’t wait for the first reviews of this hypercar to start showing up on the Internet, only then will get get to know just how the P1 compares to its rivals.

When the Pagani Huayra was finally unveiled it proved that the company was not a one-trip pony with their Zonda, because their latest hypercar is said to be one of, if not the best car that has ever been built. The release of the car has sent a warning shot to their main rivals, so one has to hope that the likes of Ferrari and McLaren will be able to deliver?

Having already looked at the Ferrari Enzo successor earlier today, we thought you might be interested to know that the McLaren P1 power specs have been made official. Before you get too exited the Woking based company has decided to leave out the performance figures, so we do not know the P1′s top speed or 0-60mph time, although this should become available to us next month.

We can now say for certain that the McLaren P1 will produce 903 horsepower from its twin-turbo 3.3-liter V8 engine and it’s KERS. This is unlike any other hybrid you have seen, but will be very similar to what Ferrari is currently working on.

Let’s break those figures down for you, the gas/petrol engine produces 727 horsepower, but for that extra boost you can call upon the 176.5 horsepower from the kinetic energy recovery system. This is the same tech used in Formula 1.

It’s nice to know that the power is not there constantly, so you will not have the fear of trying to control all of that power while driving through the streets, but knowing that you can just press a button mounted on the steering wheel is a good feeling to have.

While it may be nice to have all that power beneath your right foot (and finger), the biggest issue for these hypercars is drag, but McLaren has developed a unique system to help reduce drag by at least 23 percent. This will also give you the feeling of an extra power boost, but don’t worry because when you hit the brakes or need to take a corner fast, all those clever systems, such as the rear wing will be there to keep it all under control.

It will be interesting to see how well the McLaren P1 performs around the Top Gear test track, as we know that the Pagani Huayra holds the new record. More details can be found by visiting the McLaren website.

When the media and the public head down to the Geneva Motor Show later next month there are two cars that is sure to grab their attention first, and that is the Ferrari F150 (more commonly known as the Enzo successor) and the McLaren P1. We already know so much about the latter, but not much is known about the former.

However, all that should change in Geneva because we should not only learn all those important specs, but also details like price and also availability. From the rumors we have heard so far the F150 looks to be the far better car, but never write off McLaren, because they are all about the finer details.

Ferrari have been pretty quiet in regards to the build up to their new hypercar, so it seems very strange that they would use social media in order to announce that the car will not only make its debut in Geneva, but it will also succeed the Enzo as the top Ferrari. There are a huge number of you who believe this to be a fake report, but giving the F150 its debut in Geneva where the P1 is to also appear is surely its best platform?

There seems to be a huge debate in regards to Ferrari’s choice in name for their Enzo successor, but F150 is more likely to be its internal/code name. Why would Ferrari wish to take on the might of Ford, who we are sure will not be best pleased with the use of the name.

We say this because Ford had sent a letter to Ferrari back in 2011 threatening legal action if they used the F150 name. However, Ferrari responded by saying that they have never said that they will use the name for their upcoming car, because it’s just an abbreviation of its full name, Ferrari F150th Italia, which is to celebrate 150 years of the unification of Italy.

Whenever a new supercar is about to enter production or is even announced it is always going to be compared to the Bugatti Veyron, which as we know is the world’s fastest production car. However, there’s always more to a supercar or hypercar than top speed alone because it’s also about all-round ability as well, which is just what the McLaren P1 is counting on.

On paper the Bugatti Veyron has the McLaren P1 beat because the former has an 8-liter W12 engine producing 1,184 horsepower for the Super Sport version and a top speed of 267 mph when compared to 3.8-liter V-8 producing over 800 horsepower for the latter. It’s clear in a drag race the Veyron would be the victor, but put both these cars on a track and the outcome might be a little different.

McLaren P1 vs Bugatti Veyron

The reason for this is because the Veyron is a heavy old beast when compared to the P1 and there’s also the fact that acceleration of the P1 will be helped along thanks to KERS. McLaren doesn’t have any plans to be the fastest, but they do want the P1 to be the best drivers car, which was once the McLaren F1, and in many cases is still regarded as one of the best supercars ever made.

While the P1 does look very sexy there is a fear that the car could suffer with the same issue that the McLaren MP4-12C does, and that’s not giving the driver a feeling of being in control. One of the reasons behind this is that too much of the car has been designed on a computer as well as a computer doing a lot of the work while driving. It’s this that could prove an issue with the P1, but let’s wait and see – although out of the two I’d go with the McLaren P1 because it just has far more sex appeal while the Veyron looks as though it’s a little overweight.

Similarities of 2014 BMW i8 doors http://www.product-reviews.net/2012/02/14/similarities-of-2014-bmw-i8-doors/ http://www.product-reviews.net/2012/02/14/similarities-of-2014-bmw-i8-doors/#comments Tue, 14 Feb 2012 11:11:01 +0000 Peter Chubb http://www.product-reviews.net/?p=148728 Waiting for the release of the 2014 BMW i8 has been like watching paint dry but we still have a way to go yet, at least there has been a steady stream of information even though most of what we know is speculative. We say this because while we have a lot to go on from the official website this is always subject to change with a project like this. Having said that we now have a much clearer picture of what those doors will look like, and it’s plan to see there are similarities with a few other great cars.

As you would imagine the spies have been out with their cameras and you can see that the doors look very similar to those used on the McLaren F1, SLR and the Ferrari Enzo. This is one of the features that were seen in the concept design; so nice to see it has been left in because there are a number of elements that have been taken out already.

These awesome looking butterfly doors look just like they did in the concept and the cameo role the BMW i8 made in the recent Mission Impossible movie. These doors do seem much safer than those on the Mercedes SLS AMG because we know they require explosive charges if the car roles during an accident, although we cannot be certain if they will still need the explosive charges.

Those of you with eagle eyes will notice the doors are not made mostly of glass; this is for two reasons safety and cost. To see the glass removed from the door below the belt line check out the video, we have to warn you that you could either go snow blind from all the white or suffer an adverse effect from the camouflage.

It’s finally nice to see new cars coming out that truly look like they belong in the 21st century and the BMW i8 is certainly one of them, from the design to the technology used to give it the power and fuel consumption promised to us. While this may be a sports car it shows that cars do not have to be bad for the environment in the process, more details on this can be found from the official i8 webpage.

We are unsure of an exact release date for the i8 but we believe it will be in the latter part of 2013 and will have a sticker price in the region of $350,000 to $400,000 USD. While this will seem like a lot of money you have to realize that the technology being used is cutting edge and comes at a cost.
