The last days of cashiers could be near as McDonald’s are planning to use touchscreen ordering.

An article by Matthew Finnegan on TechEye Network, is reporting the general idea is to cut customers waiting times for a quicker service.

Recent news informs us that McDonald’s will be supplying 7,000 European outlets with the swipe card and touchscreen facilities. The idea is to make ordering a McDonald’s quicker, easier and more efficient for the customer.

This also seems like a responsive way to get more revenue in a shorter amount of time. McDonald’s will also be able to get a database of popular orders and information on further improvements from computer surveys. Other fast food outlets will probably join the cause with KFC already currently trialing touchscreens in some UK stores.

There are reports of various McDonald’s branches that are going to hire waiters in some of their outlets. This is hard to understand, maybe is for that restaurant experience that you do not normally get with fast food.

In the time, its takes to order your Big Mac you could have changed your mind a least once; this argument would be hard to win against a computer automated till.

With McDonald’s using touchscreen ordering, could this mean cashiers jobs are at an end? In time where jobs are hard to find this may not be the future for staff in fast food chains all over the world.

Over the years McDonalds marketing strategies have been questioned by many, however we are hearing that the Center for Science in the Public Interest may file a suit against the fast-food restaurant giant due to the ways they market products towards children, this particular case has resulted in a huge response on Facebook.

The suit basically claims that by giving children toys with their happy meals they are in affect ‘handing out candy to children’, meaning they are using a child’s desire for toys to promote bad eating habits, which can last a lifetime, you can find out more about the lawsuit here, for now we will concentrate on the huge response this matter has received on social networking websites.

The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) have their own Facebook page here, lots of unhappy Facebook users seem critical of the potential lawsuit, an extract from a wall post from Amanda Roberts LaRosa says “McDonalds is not luring children, they are luring adults who lack parenting skills”, whereas another Facebook user states that “McDonalds is a faceless corporation that makes a profit from selling something that harms people”.

It is not just Facebook which publicizes consumer opinions, ABCNews’ recent article has proved to be very popular, so much so that it has received hundreds of retweets and 181 comments (at the time of this post), without social media there would be no easy way for consumers to have their voices heard, also retweets allow Twitter users to share one story to thousands of other Twitter users at the click of a button.

Do you think social media has a positive impact on matters of public interest?

Earlier on, we informed you that Mcdonald’s has made the decision to refund customers $3, following on from the Shrek Glasses recall after possible cadmium health risks. We are wondering if customers are satisfied with the extra $1, knowing that cadmium could cause serious problems if diagnosed.

After the recall occured, we posted a report here, giving you a detailed briefing on the potential health risks that cadmium could cause to your body. Possible symptoms include vomiting and diarrhea, while extreme cases could lead to kidney disease or cancer.

While some of you may be happy over the extra $1 for the $2 they paid for the Shrek glass, how would customers feel if they, or their children developed some of the symptoms mentioned above.

Of course, this may never happen after Mcdonald’s acted fairly quick over the issue – but we wonder what repercussions this $1 extra payout could have. Mcdonald’s may find themselves in the midst of multiple lawsuits if they are not careful.

What are your thoughts on the $3 refund for your Shrek Glass?

Last week we informed you that McDonald’s had issued a recall on its Shrek glass because of the possibility that they had been tainted with cadmium. The fast-food chain will begin its return and refund policy today, you will be given a $3 refund for your glasses – remember that the themed Shrek-glass only cost $2.

Business Pundit explains that today customers will be able to go into a McDonald’s restaurant and fill in a refund slip, you will also need to bring your Shrek glass with you – only those that were promoted with the Shrek Forever After” movie. It was these that could have been tainted with cadmium metals.

This was the only thing that McDonald’s could do in a situation like this, but the more pressing matter has to be how the cadmium could have got on the glasses in the first place. That has to now be the fast-food chain’s number one priority.

McDonald’s and other restaurants that offer products like this as promotion with a movie will now all have to consider where they get their products. We know that they need to get them as cheap as possible to return a profit – but at what price?

Parents have so many things to worry about while bringing up their children and trying to keep them safe, but the idea that they could have come into danger because of a recent recall with McDonald’s Shrek Glasses – which we recently discussed – has got them worried even more.

Kansascity recently spoke to local parent, Lorena Ortiz, where she spoke about her worries that her children could have been exposed to toxic metals. She stated that such products should be safe and that she and other parent across the country should not fear these kinds of products.

Fast Food chain McDonald’s has now pulled 12 million Shrek glasses from its shelves. They have also asked that people stop using the glasses and contact them so that they can offer a full refund – but is this really enough.

McDonald’s needs to do one of two things, stop selling these cheaply made products or make certain that they source them from somewhere who has a good quality control in place.

We have some more details for you now regarding Mcdonalds and the huge recall that is related to their Shrek glasses which are available in U.S restaurants. Mcdonalds has now added a Q&A page, with some frequently asked questions and other important information for you.

If you head over to their support page on their website, you’ll see that Mcdonalds has now added 12 questions which are all related to the Shrek glasses recall. Such questions include ‘Why is Mcdonald’s doing this recall’, and also further information regarding cadmium – the metal which is known to be a health hazard.

Furthermore, you should also be aware that Mcdonalds are asking all customers affected by the recall to visit the website again on Tuesday June 8th, as you’ll be able to learn information on how to return the glassware and request a refund.

What are your thoughts on this? Does the FAQ provide you with enough answers? You can read the full press statement from Mcdonalds here.

Yesterday we revealed that McDonald’s had voluntarily recalled 12 million glasses, these glasses featured designs to promote “Shrek Forever After”, however the paint used contained a toxic chemical element.

Although it was a voluntary recall it looks as if McDonald’s had no real choice, apparently it all started when an anonymous tip reached Jackie Speier (Office of Congresswoman), this information was then passed on to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, who are now working with McDonald’s on the recall.

You have to admire McDonald’s for recalling the glasses despite no reported injuries reported, here is a an official statement from the company “McDonald’s determined in an abundance of caution that a voluntary recall … is appropriate,”

The real question is where this anonymous tip came from, I like to think that it was an arch enemy of Ronald McDonald, however it is far more likely that someone who worked with the production of the glasses reported their concerns.

We have recently heard that McDonald’s have voluntarily recalled 12 million Shrek glasses, these glasses are painted with Shrek characters such as Donkey, Shrek, Princess Fiona and Puss in boots, however the paint they used contains excessive amounts of a harmful chemical element called Cadmium.

Cadmium poisoning is a well-known hazard in many industry processes, the real risk is associated with inhalation of fumes containing Cadmium, however this is not a risk with recalled glasses as McDonald’s are only reporting a small amount of the toxin in the glass’s paint, which experts believe could cause possible kidney damage.

It is good that McDonald’s have recalled the glasses, however the real question is should more be done before such products become available to such a wide-range of consumers, lets face it this is not the first time a McDonald’s toy/gift has been regarded a hazard to the public (mainly children).

Personally I think product recalls are becoming more and more frequent, therefore should such products go through more testing and investigation before being rolled out?

I think it would be in everyone’s interest if an independent safety inspection took place before products of this nature become mainstream, it’s obvious that the measures in-place at the moment are not up to standard.

It seems as if every week another major company announce a recall, this week is no different as we are hearing that McDonald’s are recalling 12 million Shrek glasses due to contamination concerns.

It is thought that the Shrek-themed glasses recalled feature a painted design, apparently this painted design contains traces of Cadmium, long-term exposure to Cadmium has previously been linked to kidney problems and bone softening.

There are four different designs to look out for, they all promote the upcoming movie “Shrek Forever After”, designs include paintings of Donkey, Puss in Boots, Shrek and Princess Fiona.

If you own one of these glasses the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recommend that you immediately stop using the glasses, a McDonald’s spokesman recently stated that the amount of Cadmium that the glasses contain is very slight, however “”slightly above the protective level”.

To find out more about the recall check out the source link below.
