About a week ago the NHTSA issued Alfa Romeo and Maserati recall notices because of a shared issue, which was due to possible faulty tie rod ends. The vehicles included in the recall are the 2008 8C and the 2005-2008 Quattroporte, 2008 Granturismo.

You are advised to contact your dealer or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline (details below) where they will run a Alfa Romeo and Maserati recall check to see if your model is affected.

We’re told that the recalls will begin by the end of June 2013, where the dealer will replace the tie rod end assemblies, if yours is one of the affected models that is. The reason for the fault is because in some cases these components have not been given sufficient corrosion protection, which means they are prone to rust.

If these components were to rust, then they could become weak, corrode and in rare cases fail. If this was to happen then this could lead to a serious accident, as the vehicle could become unstable and you could lose control over the vehicle, putting not only your life in danger, but also your passengers and other road users and pedestrians.

Maserati offered very limited details on their 2014 Ghibli sedan just recently, but as yet all we had to go on was a 2014 Maserati Ghibli rendering. However, today the car manufacturer has now given us some eye candy just to wet our appetites ahead of the Shanghai Motor Show, which will be when they unveil the car for the first time at an event.

Not only does this give you an idea of the exterior of this executive four-door sports sedan, but you also get to see the 2014 Maserati Ghibli interior as well – okay just the one shot.

The Maserati Ghibli specs are very limited at the moment, but we do know that the sedan will be powered by a V6 3.0 liter turbo-diesel engine, which is kept under control with an eight-speed automatic transmission and a choice of RWD or AWD, although the latter will come at a premium.

The luxury sedan sector will be a tough market to crack, because the likes of BMW, Mercedes and Audi excel in this market. However, Maserati must see a gap in the market, because they believe executives not only want elegance and luxury, but also a sporty edge as well – something Maserati has been very good at over the years.

As yet we have no clue as to the 2014 Maserati Ghibli price, but we do hope the new model is a success. Although, we do worry that some of you out there will believe Maserati has lied a little, as they said the Ghibli will come with all-new styling, yet we see many Quattroporte features in the design.

The original version was pretty evil looking, so we have to hand it to the designers who thought this one up. There have been a number of changes to giving the car a more aggressive look, and we have to say, it has worked. Anderson Germany is the team behind the Black Edition, the last time we saw a perfect team up with Italy and Germany was when Michael Schumacher was driving for Ferrari.

So let’s talk about that paint scheme first, the finish is matt black, there are only small areas where glossy black has been used, these are on the window frames, rear logo, grille and those 21-inch rims complete with 265 and 295 tires to the front and read respectively. To finish off the look the windows have been tinted, so if you are Batman no one will see you in there.

Engadget reports that Anderson has taken some of the stock parts off to replace them with their own flare, and those are the sports engine bonnet, and a host of carbon add-ons, such as exterior mirrors, inlets and roof and tailgate leading edges. What would be the point of doing all this if the car did not sound aggressive, so giving the exhaust a two sound valve command and some extra horsepower will do just nicely?

The sound of that engine and exhaust working together is like you have woken the ancient gods, and you will know just what we mean when you open the taps up on the track and feel that 492 horsepower being transferred to the tarmac. Not too certain if the interior does the exterior of the Maserati GranTurismo S justice. The reason we say this is because the all-black finish with red piping makes it look more like a boudoir on wheels. Maybe we have this car all wrong; maybe it will be more fitting for a drag queen with attitude?

The Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale is a road ready version of their track based MC Trofeo and GT4. With that sort of pedigree behind it expect the MC Stradale to be a ballistic road car, helped of course by its 4.7-litre, 450bhp V8 powerplant.

As of yet there isn’t much information about the new car, but reports suggest that it should be lighter than the standard GranTurismo, along with a re-worked chassis. With Maserati adding a new performance model to its range, and a four-door 5 Series challenger due for 2015, is this what Maserati needs to take on the likes of Ferrari and BMW? Now the Quattroporte is an excellent car, but perhaps either abit too big, and maybe just out of your price range. You think your stuck, but fear not as a Motor Trend reports that a baby version of the Quattroporte will be available sometime around 2015.

With Maserati’s plans to enter more mainstream markets, the exotic auto manufacturer is set to expand its range with a challenger aimed at the BMW 5 series. Rumour also suggests that the new arrival could be all-wheel drive and more eco-friendly. Starting price should be around the $68,000 mark, with the base model slightly more subtle than Maserati is used to. I look forward to seeing a new rival to the 5 Series, and as long as Maserati keeps their beautiful styling and intoxicating exhaust note I,m sure they will do well.
