The latest full Mario game is about to hit the 3DS and things have been surprising quiet on the report front from us. For those that aren’t aware, Super Mario 3D Land is expected out November 18th and has just gone up for pre-order. To commemorate the game’s availability Nintendo has released a trailer featuring some of the gameplay.

The video which can be viewed below shows off some of the stunning and fun gameplay features we can expect from the game, including the varying camera angles, colorful environments and the podgy plumber himself jumping around but as CVG explains, it’s the game’s power-ups that take the lime-light with the Propeller and Tanooki suits.

The Tanooki suit is the same feature that is used in Mario Kart 7. It has a tail that can be used for both offensive attacks and can also be useful when defending yourself from oncoming enemies or shells etc. The Propeller suit has been seen before, but for those that aren’t familiar with it, it’s obtained through a Propeller Mushroom and can be used to clear thick interfering fog and of course propel Mario into the air allowing him to avoid obstacles and enemies.

Another power-up that will feature in the game but cannot be seen in the trailer is the Boomerang Bros suit. It first appeared in Super Mario Bros 3 and is sure to make battling enemies that much more fun. These exciting extras that will feature in this game should make owning it a must and if that means going out and buying a Nintendo 3DS, so be it.

Go and order your copy of the game now to be sure of obtaining it when it releases next month. Pre-orders have already propelled the game into number 20 in the top 20 best-selling games chart at GameStop. Will you be adding to the sales?

Nintendo recently decided to try and kick start sales of the 3DS console by announcing a price cut for the device. We have also looked at the possibility of Nintendo becoming just a game developer in a similar fashion to Sega. Today we are asking why Nintendo’s Mario should appear on the iPhone, as investors have their say.

Investors of the company seem to be growing restless and think Nintendo should develop titles for Apple’s iPhone. Many consumers are turning their backs on the 3DS in favor of playing games on the iPhone and other smartphone devices. According to Bloomberg Nintendo’s President has said the company would only make game titles for its own products while he remains in charge.

Fund manager Masamitsu Ohki feels the company should change its strategy, and look into buying a way into the smartphone market, or “develop something totally new”. Recently Nintendo’s shares rose sharply after Pokemon Co. revealed that it was working on a title for the iPhone, and devices running on Android.

The slow take up of the 3DS has been blamed on the shortage of hit titles by Iwata, and led to the company slashing its profit expectations by 82%. Meanwhile gaming on iDevices is soaring with games such as Angry Birds leading the way.

It’s not just games on smartphones that are competing with Nintendo, as many users play games on their Facebook accounts now. This has lead to the likes of Sony embracing the market by releasing the PoxNora strategy game on the social networking site last year.

The price drop for the 3DS is about to get underway, and in the lead up to Christmas Super Mario 3DLand arrives on November 13th, and Mario Kart is due to release on December 4th for the console. This may lead to bigger sales of the device, which is currently being outsold by older versions of the DS.

Some quarters have also been unimpressed with the Wii U, Nintendo’s latest home console due for release early next year. Investors are urging the company to make acquisitions and make use of the big cash reserves Nintendo are sitting on. Maybe some people are getting ahead of themselves, and the 3DS could still prove to be a huge success.

The PlayStation 3 got off to a slow start, which at the time was put down to price and launch titles. Once more is known about the Wii U including pricing and launch titles, interest in the device can easily increase.

Do you think Nintendo need to make games for the iPhone?

One game which we are looking forward to seeing at E3 2011 is the New Super Mario Bros for the Nintendo 3DS, recently IGN posted a nice article where they spoke about Super Mario 3DS expectations and wishes etc.

IGN point out that Shigeru Miyamoto has pretty much confirmed that the Raccoon Tail Suit will make an appearance in Super Mario 3DS, if this suit makes an appearance chances are that other classic suits will show up, along with some more recent ones. Perhaps we will see the Cloud Suit and Penguin Suit show up, if so we can expect the game’s levels to be designed around the abilities these suits give you, also we could see some completely new suits show up.

The game’s difficulty is what many think will be the game’s most important feature, let’s face it, the scope of people who will play the game makes it hard to get spot on, will it be as easy as Super Mario Bros on the DS, or will it be a bit more difficult like the two Super Mario Galaxy releases?

Nintendo has previously stated that Super Mario 3DS will be a similar game to Super Mario 64, perhaps this means that there will be a central hub set in the Mushroom Kingdom. You can find out more about Super Mario Bros 3DS expectations over at IGN, now we will talk about some of the ideas on IGN’s wishlist.

IGN hope that this game will really show off the 3DS’ 3D capabilities and add real depth to such an iconic game series, they want to see plenty of classic costumes return with a 3D makeover and bottomless caverns to really look bottomless. Also for lasting appeal they want the game to be tough so you really have to work hard to get all of the stars.

One thing to remember is the fact that all 3DS games will be playable in 2D, we are hoping that this doesn’t hold the game back too much, let’s face it if you bought the 3DS you want to see its 3D capabilities on show, we have been playing 2D Mario games since 1980, surely it is time for a change?

We can’t wait to see Super Mario 3DS at E3 2011, can you? If not, what expectations do you have?

E3 is coming this June and the lineup of things that we are going to see builds greatly as we approach the date. Today, we found news from Gaming Target which says that Super Mario 3DS will be making its appearance there for gamers to see and play.

The Super Mario title for the 3DS has been announced for a long while now and it is scheduled to be released by the end of the year alongside another Mario title in development for the 3DS that will come out after the year’s end. The games producer and designer, Shigeru Miyamoto, said that the game will be “a combination of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario on N64.”

This should excite fans of the Mario series and will give some people a reason to buy the 3DS, upon launch the games available weren’t that great, however we are sure that E3 2011 will have plenty of surprises in store for us.

What do you think of the release of a new Mario game for the 3DS? Will it make you want to go to E3 this year and play it for yourself? Will you buy the 3DS for Super Mario 3DS? Let us know in the comments section below.

If you are a fan of Nintendo and the Super Mario Bros we have recently come across an interview which may be an interesting read for you, the interview was with the Super Mario Bros creator Shigeru Miyamoto .

There is a long list of questions and answers on USAToday, all of which can be seen here, in this post I will highlight what are the most interesting questions/answers.

Miyamoto revealed that the reason Mario wears a hat is due to the limitations with technology back in the early 80s, by giving Mario a hat they did not have to animate hair or draw eyebrows.

During the interview Miyamoto also said that the most important advance in technology was the introduction of 3D capabilities, this was first seen in the Nintendo 64 title Super Mario 64, this allowed developers to animate Mario in ways never seen before.

According to the Q&A session Miyamoto’s favorite Mario game is Super Mario World, this was released in 1993 and was the first Mario game to feature a map, this allowed stories to develop and also gave players a sense of direction.

Remember you can see the full list of questions and answers on USAToday, it is well worth the read.

Whenever we hear that a new Sonic game is to be released I think of my youth and how its rival Mario has left our speedy hedgehog behind. The long awaited Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I game will make its way to consoles next week as a DLC, with Sonic Colors following after.

It is such a sad thought to realize that Sonic has been left behind, as first person shooters offers a challenge that our blue friend is unable to win. Jim Avery from GamerTVNetwork also points out that Sonic is unable to compete with the likes of his old rival Mario as well.

There are so many reasons for this, but the main one is Sega is no longer the powerhouse they once were – not having a current games console is the biggest problem. Who would have thought that Nintendo from the 80’s would still have the biggest selling games console?

OK, so we know that the Wii and DS do not offer the kind of graphics that the PS3 or Xbox can give, but games like Mario have never been about that. Nintendo has always been in touch with the user, and what most of us want is a game that relieves the stress and just have fun – yes FPS games offer fun, but I cannot say that they alleviate my stress, can you?

Do you think that there is still a future for Sonic, or should he hang up his white sneakers and retire to Florida?
