Nintendo recently announced some new bundles in time for Christmas for its 3DS and DSI XL consoles to tempt consumers to part with their cash. The 3DS in particular has seen a slow start to its shelf life since it was first released earlier in the year. But now we are seeing more games being released that should see the take up of the device improve. Today we can tell you about the Mario Kart 7 3DS steering wheel that will have you racing to the finish line.

An article on Electricpig is reporting the new peripheral revealed by Nintendo should get some gamers excited about the upcoming release of the game. Many of us will remember when the Nintendo Wii first came out and getting the steering wheels to attach our Wii controllers to play Mario Kart.

Now gamers can have a similar experience with the 3DS after Nintendo announced the wheel that fits over the console. The add on was confirmed for release in Japan with no official line of other markets, but it is expected to launch worldwide.

It is set to cost around $17 or just over £10 in the UK and US, and the shoulder triggers on the steering wheel will allow for that perfect grip as you steer your way around all the tracks with Mario. Whether it will get many takers remains to be seen, with the younger gamers probably being the likely target of it.

The game itself promises to give the console a much need boost ahead of the release of the PS Vita, which could be a serious threat to future sales of the 3DS. Will you be getting the steering wheel for Mario Kart 7?

Those of you that have been gaming since the age of the SNES will appreciate the progress which Nintendo’s, Mario Kart has made since then. At the time it was one of the most imaginative and fun games ever developed, as well as being one of the best games on the console. As the consoles have improved so too has the game and it is still now one of the best racing games available despite not being on all consoles.

It seems Activision intend to take full advantage of the fact that Mario Kart is only available to Nintendo consoles as they have teamed up with DreamWorks and developed a very similar racing game called DreamWorks Super Star Kartz. Like Mario Kart it features an array of characters, only these ones all feature in the DreamWorks movies.

According to Eurogamer, there are a total of 14 characters available to select from the likes of movies such as Monsters vs. Aliens, Madagascar, How to Train Your Dragon and Shrek. The Super Star Kartz will also feature a variety of weapons as you would get in Mario Kart, designed to help out-wit opponents, as well as ‘awesome’ tricks and stunts. It also includes three game modes; Time Trial, Circuit and Battle, again very similar to the modes you’d expect to find in Mario Kart.

There was no mention of the online mode in Eurogamer’s source, though there is a multi-player mode available with split-screen for up to four people. Apparently the game is expected to hit the market this autumn, which is fast considering we’re only just hearing about it, and it will be available across all platforms. Check out the link above for more screenshots from the upcoming Activision title.

What do you think of DreamWorks Super Star Kartz so far? Will you be getting it?

If you missed Nintendo’s E3 2011 press conference you may not have heard what was revealed about Mario Kart 3DS, today we will show you the game’s official trailer which boasts some features which we have never seen before in any previous Mario Kart title.

The trailer has been embedded below, it gives you a good look at the game’s visuals (although it is hard to do them justice without 3D), apparently the game runs at a 60fps frame rate and people who got some hands-on time with it at E3 2011 seemed very impressed.

What excites us the most is that it shows both in-air and underwater maps, the in-air segment of the video shows us a glimpse at a glider which attaches to your kart, whilst the underwater teaser shows us your kart with a propeller on the rear, this will certainly add to the game’s longevity.

Another thing which caught our eye takes place roughly 75 seconds into the video, you see a screen which allows you to customize your kart with different shapes, different size wheels and with what also looks like different colors, we can’t wait to see this particular aspect of the game in a little more details.

Check out the video below, does it surpass your Mario Kart 3DS expectations?

It appears that Nintendo’s hugely popular Mario kart racing game could well be facing a bit of stiff competition soon, when the upcoming KartRiderRush game – originally named Crazyracing Kartrider – finally makes its way on the iOS and Android mobile platforms some time this year.

According to a recent article by Mike Jackson over at computerandvideogames.com (via Kotaku), the Korean kart racing game has become a huge success in its home country. In fact, it’s so successful that nearly a third of the country’s population has already played the game.

The question in our minds however is whether the KartRiderRush game can truly be a rival for the Mario Kart title. After all, Mario Kart DS was in fact the sixth best-selling DS game with a total of 20.7 million copies sold worldwide as of December last year.

KartRiderRush has only ever been played in the west as beta tests, which were held back in 2007 and 2008. A full version of the game was promised for last year, but it obviously never happened. The title is now skipping consoles altogether, and going to straight to Android and iOS.

The mobile version will be free to download, but players will have to pay for extra tracks, characters and other items. KartRiderRush will feature four-player offline-racing, cel-shaded cartoon visuals and a choice of either tilt or touch controls. You can view a video of the app below this post.

What do you think of the KartRiderRush game? Will it give Mario Kart a run for its money?
