Recently we heard how the Metro UI dashboard update for Xbox 360, which arrived back in December, had caused the usage of entertainment apps to soar, however Xbox Live’s director of programming Larry Hyb (aka Major Nelson) has admitted that there is a color space issue with some of the video apps.

The good news is that the Xbox Live programmers are currently working on a fix, no ETA has been given, but at least those of you who are experiencing the color space problems know that it has at least been acknowledged and should be fixed in the near future.

You can see Major Nelson’s tweet which revealed this news 16 hours ago below:

We’re aware of the colorspace issue w/ some Xbox video apps & are working on a fix. No ETA yet but we hope to have an update soon.

Having not experienced the issue ourselves we thought we would carry out a little research into the matter, there’s an interesting thread over at the Xbox forums which fully details the color space problem, someone claims that this issue is system wide and all 360′s which connect to a TV using HDMI or the component cable, here’s how you can replicate the problem:

Simply turn on your 360 and ensure that you are viewing the dashboard aka Xbox Home, then go across to the video tab and enter My Video Apps, now play any video and notice how bright the video is, if you exit the video player by just using the ‘B’ button you will notice that the screen is much darker – this is the color space issue which Major Nelson is reporting.

If you then go into the video and carry on watching it it’s much darker than before, below we have embedded two photos showing the brightness before and after – as you can see the difference is quite substantial.

We would love to hear from you if this annoying issue has affected you, later today we may upload a video showing the problem in more detail (that’s if it occurs on our 360), we will keep you posted when we hear more information on the fix.

Have you spotted any other bugs with the new dashboard?

We have been switching our Xbox 360 consoles on every 30 minutes today to ensure that we get the new dashboard update as soon as possible, however we have now heard that there has been a slight delay, that said it looks like it should still launch today.

Xbox Live’s director of programming, Larry Hryb (aka @majornelson) recently tweeted a few messages to his 343k followers saying the following:

FYI: The timing for Xbox 360 dashboard update has been slightly delayed. I’ll have a status update later today

As you can see he is very vague about the situation, therefore we don’t know whether there was just a very minor issue with the update or something more serious. Since posting this tweet he has gone on to say that he won’t have additional details until later today, that said the moment he has new information he will share it on Twitter.

We aren’t going to delve into what the cause of this delay is, but we are seriously hoping that Microsoft’s new dashboard roll out has not ran into major problems, when we hear more on the situation we will keen you posted, so keep checking Product-Reviews for all of the latest news.

Now that you have a wait on your hands you should perhaps find some other things to do to keep you entertained, here’s some suggestions: Firstly if you are a Battlefield 3 fan you should watch the brand new Battlefield 3 Wake Island trailer, still got time on your hands? PC gamers could always install the Skyrim HD retexture mod, PES 2012 gamers should find out all about the upcoming patch and finally why not find out about the faster boot time which the new Xbox 360 dashboard will bring to your console.

Still got time on your hands? Why not check out Engadget’s detailed review of the new Xbox 360 dash.

Leave us a comment below when the update finally hits your console and whether you run into any problem, at 3.30pm UK time it still hadn’t hit my 360.

Major Nelson has responded on Twitter, following the events over the weekend which saw his Xbox Live profile hacked and GamerTag modified to display some not very friendly comments.

As reported from VG247, hackers temporarily gained access to his account, altering various details about him and then posted a video of it on YouTube.

The guys who performed the action were not too bothered about revealing their identity – so it shouldnt take long for Microsoft to catch the people responsible.

Nelson has since replied on Twitter with the following message: “A fun last night at PAX East! Thanks to everyone who has asked, but my account it now fine. Thx to @Stepto and team who are investigating.”

There is always a few who have to spoil it, eh? Let us know your thoughts on this.
