Although many people are now looking to their smartphones and downloadable navigation apps to direct them, there are some that would still prefer to buy a GPS system. If you fall in the latter category and you’re looking to buy a new navigation system, we have news that could definitely interest you.

According to Ammon Carpenter over on the slashgear.com website, Magellan has recently introduced the new RoadMate 5175T-LM Wi-Fi-enabled GPS system that also comes with a built-in web browser, a new trip planner called TourDirector and free lifetime map and traffic alerts updates.

The Magellan RoadMate 5175T-LM GPS features a 5-inch, high-resolution touchscreen that can be viewed in either landscape or portrait mode. As noted over on the magellangps.com website, the RoadMate 5175T-LM also features 6 million Points of Interest and a One Touch favorites menu.

It also comes with a highway exit POI search, which enables users to search for hotels, restaurants, gas stations and more that are near to upcoming highway exits, speed limit warnings, spoken street name guidance and pre-loaded maps of the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.

Other specs include a USB 2.0 port, a microSD card slot and a Li-ion battery that provides around 2 hours of usage. Are you looking to buy a new GPS system?

We have some rather interesting news now for those of you that live in the UK and enjoy participating in outdoor activities such as hiking, as we’ve just heard that the Magellan eXplorist handheld GPS range is coming to the UK. The range consists of four different models, which are all waterproof.

As Chris Hall over on the pocket-lint.com website recently noted, each of the four devices differ in regards to specs, increasing in functionality as you go up a model. The entry-level model is the eXplorist GC, a dedicated geocaching device that features a 2.2-inch display and simple controls.

Stepping up in the range are the three other models: the eXplorist 510, 610 and 710, which all feature a 3-inch touch screen and a camera, which enables you to take quick geotagged photographs. These models also come with a speaker and microphone, enabling users to make voice notes.

Meanwhile, both the 610 and 710 offer enhanced navigation features such as a 3-axis electronic compass, a Summit Series Topographical map and a barometric altimeter. The 710 also provides users with turn-by-turn street navigation. All 4 devices run on AA batteries and feature a mini-USB connection.

As for pricing, the eXplorist GC is priced up at £179.99, the 510 is £299.99, the 610 has been priced up at £399.99 and the top of the range 710 model is £499.99. Are you thinking about buying a new handheld GPS device?
