Madden NFL 12 arrived in North America on August 30, by September 5 more than 1.4 million copies had been sold (all consoles) and by the looks of things gamers are certainly making the most of their new purchase. Figures suggest that 5.4 million online game sessions have been played since its launch and the game’s downloadable content is also selling well – we are told that almost 200,000 coin packs and Madden Ultimate Team cards sold in just 7 days – now that’s impressive.

Before the game’s public release EA SPORTS Season Ticket subscribers were able to get full-game digital access to Madden NFL 12 and by the time the game’s official release took place more than four million gameplay minutes had already been racked up.

If these figures impressed you that’s not all, we are also told the games for Android and iOS also done very well, apparently the version of the game available at the Android Market reached the top paid spot, whilst the game for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch ranked in the top 10 grossing apps list at the App Store.

All of these impressive accomplishments show us just how well EA Sports has done with the game franchise, no doubt next-years instalment will push the boundaries even further and rack up more sales – perhaps a Wii U version of the game will come next year, one thing which we doubt is that a PC version of the game will emerge.

As Rick Wallace from xxlgaming.com notes. The Online Communities feature provides players with a great way to both meet and play with other Madden NFL 12 users. The feature enables gamers to create and join Communities of up to 2,000 like-minded players, where they can compete on their own leaderboards based on customized game styles including game speed and game length.

Players will not only be able to play head-to-head games within their Community, they will also have the ability to team up with fellow members to play ranked Team Play games against other Communities. Players aren’t limited to joining one Community either, as they do have the option of joining up to 5 different Communities at once in order to meet various play styles.

When creating a Community, players will have the option to either leave it open to the public and be able to send invites to anyone they choose, or set a Community password that has to be entered when other players attempt to join. The Community creator not only has the ability to set the ‘house rules,’ they can also give certain members ‘Manager Permissions.’

Having ‘Manager Permissions’ allows you to promote other members, change Community options and sliders and even kick out other members. Every slider and game option in the Madden NFL 12 game is editable, and can be applied to all head-to-head games within the Community. All Online Communities games will be ranked on the Community leaderboard.

Not only will recent game results be displayed for the entire Community to view, individual stats will also be tracked and ranked. Each Community will have its own private lobby where members will be able to chat with each other, as well as gather teammates when taking on other communities. You will also be view a box score and participants of a game in progress from the lobby.

In the running this year are a range of different players, most notably, the coverstar of last years Madden Drew Brees who is in the line-up for a second turn at the cover position. Competing with him are the likes of Larry Fitzgerald (the 2010 Cover), Hakeem Nicks who scored 11 Touchdowns in 2010, and fans can even vote for ‘The 12th Man’, a symbolic reference to the supporters readiness, will and desire to help out their team.
