Samsung X360: Better than Apple MacBook Air
This is the new ultra-thin Samsung X360 laptop, and it’s not only going to take on the Apple MacBook Air but it can also win easily.
First up, if you prefer Windows Vista when compared to Mac, the Samsung X360 is an easy choice but when you look at the features it also beats the Mac Air hands down.
The Samsung X360 notebook comes with a massive 100GB Solid State Disk (SSD), Intel Core Duo processor, a big keyboard, 3 USB’s, a VGA out and HDMI port for hooking up to HDTV’s. The weight is less at 1.27 Kilos compared to the MacBook Airs 1.36 Kilos.
As a person looking to upgrade my portable computing to a MacBook Air, it looks like I have now been converted and will wait until later this year when the Samsung X360 is released for around £1,200.
The main reason for this is the massive battery life of 10 hours; this is ideal and much longer than other laptops currently in local computers stores. Watch a video of the laptop below.

Asus S101 Ulitmate Eee PC could rival Macbook Air

We have known for some time that Asus are to launch the ultimate Eee PC called the S101. It seems that Asus do not want this Ultimate laptop top be associated with their Eee PC notebooks.
The boss of Asus thinks that the S101 might just be a rival to Apple’s Macbook Air. When he showed of the new notebook, he re-enacted the Apple Macbook Air launch by pulling the Macbook Air from an envelope to show off how thin it is.
There will be two models in the Asus S101 range, one will have a 32GB SSD and will cost $699 and the 64GB SSD version will cost $899.
Both have a 10.2-inch LCD screen with LED backlit. Both notebooks are powered by Intel’s Atom processor.
Asus will have a hard time trying to shake of the Eee PC name from the S101 range. As for the whole rival thing for the Macbook Air, well I will let you be the judge of that.

Very Thin Laptops: HP Voodoo silicon, MacBook Air & ThinkPad X300
![]()
When looking at all the latest thin laptops you will be forgiven for thinking that they look almost the same, the main three are the HP Voodoo Envy, Apple MacBook Air and the ThinkPad X300. Yes they are all thin, but it is not just in looks where they are the same, when you look inside there are many more common features. When it comes to the processing power, the Hewlett-Packard Voodoo silicon shares the same one used in the MacBook Air, this is the low-power Intel SP7700 and SP7500.

Don’t try looking for these processors on any price list from Intel; these CPU’s were designed especially for the MacBook Air. The processors have a thermal envelope of just 20 watts at 1.8GHz and 1.6GHz, CPU’s which run at those speeds usually have a power rating of 35 watts. The ThinkPad X300 uses a different processor, an Intel SL7100. This CPU still comes in a small package, but has a lower clock speed of just 1.2GHz and only uses 12 watts of power.

One thing that we notice about these CPU’s is the fact that they are the older 65-nanometer “Merom” processors, we would have thought that they would have used the newer 45-nanometer Penryn generation. There are rumours of an upgrade of these processors coming, which will be able to fit into these slim notebooks.
There are also a number of other similarities with these laptops; all three use the Intel X3100 integrated graphics as well as offering a choice of 80GB hard disk drive (4200RPM) or a 64GB solid state drive. One thing is certain about the HP Voodoo silicon, MacBook Air & ThinkPad X300; they are the future in laptops.
Apple The Benchmark Brand: MacBook Air, iPod, iPhone, iTunes & Mac Computers

I have been reporting on different products and technology for many years now and it seems Apple have done very well for themselves, they have changed from the Apple Mac Computer vs. PC days to getting their brand in many product areas. The company have come from when the Apple logo was allowed by the Beatles if they did not enter into the music business (well that all changed, remember the lawsuit) to these days being more than just Mac’s.
When I say “Apple The Benchmark Brand”, it could not be truer as many of Apple’s products and services have every product after them compared to it. Nearly all new music download services are compared to Apple iTunes, most portable music/media players are compared to the iPod Touch and other iPod products, the lightest and thinnest laptops are now getting compared to the Apple Macbook Air and the best cell phones get compared to the Apple iPhone.

You got to say “Well Done” to Apple for making all this possible, although we have also heard many bad things about these products, the Macbook Air has had its share of problems and the iPods have been known for their share. This will happen when your at the top, but what’s next for Apple and if they enter another product or service area will they set a new benchmark again?

The future is never certain but Apple are now a more established brand in more homes around the world than ever before…keeping there is the hard bit.

Designers at BOA Design Inc, have been working to bridge the gap between fashion and technology. Company founder, Kunjan Chauhan has invested in research of synthetic fibers and nano-technology to develop a line of accessories that work with personal electronics instead of merely housing them.

Review of Apple MacBook Air with Microsoft Windows Vista Installed

The Apple MacBook Air does look stunning, but we have heard many opinions on the hardware usability and how it compares to a windows machine, Xbit Labs have took this a step further by reviewing the Apple Mac Air as a Microsoft Windows Vista machine.
They did have a few problems getting Vista installed on the MacBook Air due to no built-in optical drive and Vista installer’s not wanting to wipe out the OS X partition. Read the full story on xbitlabs.com
Fontier FRNL Slim Notebook: cooler that the Apple MacBook Air

One of the coolest laptops on the market has to be the Apple MacBook Air, it is slim and looks very sleek. However there is another notebook out there which I think is much cooler, the Fontier FRNL Slim Notebook.
The new Fontier FRNL is thinner that the MacBook Air at its thinnest points, and is also lighter. However it does not stop there, as the FRNL features a waterproof keyboard something the MacBook Air does not. The notebook is very tough as it can stand a fall from 76cm and can resist a pressure of 120KG.
However the downside is that the FRNL is not as powerful as the Apple MacBook Air, it only has an Intel A110 CPU which runs at 800MHz and has 1GB of RAM. The laptop has a 12.1-inch screen, and comes with an 80GB hard drive.

Apple MacBook Air Software Patch: warmer climates and overheating issues
March 13, 2008 by Peter
Filed under Apple News, Computers, Laptops

The new software patch update for the Apple MacBook Air was released in the hope to fix an overheating problem. Some MacBook users never had any overheating issues, however for those of you who live in warmer climates, will welcome this update.
The update is meant to help fine tune the speed of the internal fan, this in turn should improve cooling. However some MacBook Air owners have said that this fix is useless. Some owners have also said that when they went to update their MacBook Air, they got a message saying that it was already up to date.
Seeps as if Apple have not handled this fix to well, and might have to get back to the drawing board on this fix. If you live in these warmer climates then you might be lucky with the new update, hopefully your Apple MacBook Air will not overheat and lock up, however I would not hold my breath.

Thinnovation: new trademark filed by Apple

We all know how trademark crazy Apple are, well it seems they have filed for another one. This time it is Thinnovation; this latest application was filed to the European Trademark Office.
Apple first associated Thinnovation on their MacBook Air, I just wonder why they want to try and file for so many trademarks. If other people can’t use this kind of technology, then I think that advancements in this area could slow down a little. Apple should allow others to use their technology, and take a percentage from them.
