There seems to be a huge focus on the Mac lineup and from what we have learned Apple will soon have to start overcoming the challenges ahead, although the release of these may not be as soon as you think. We have to remember that last year the iMac was released in early 2011, the MacBook Air in July and the Pro in October, although we have seen these releases change over the years.

It’s still not certain that Apple will introduce the Retina screen to their Mac range but they will have to overcome some of the issues the iPad had too, having said that there is more room to play in the Mac range. While it’s a nice thought to think that your new MacBook and iMac will be sporting an improved display, it’s no guarantee though that you will get double the pixels and also the fact that a Retina iMac would have much better quality than a MacBook.

Another issue is with the cost of implementing Retina to the Mac range because it will be much harder to offset the price on products that don’t sell as much as an iPad. Now Apple could do three things, swallow the cost, pass the increase on to the customer or cut corners in other areas.

There’s an interesting article that suggest that these improved displays require far more power, which could have an affect on the battery performance of the new 2012 MacBook range – if they go for the Retina display that is. This will mean that the MacBook range will require a beefier battery and there have been suggestions that this will need to be increased by 70 percent at least – not certain if they will be able to increase it by this much?

That’s not the only issue because once you add in a Retina, then a bigger battery this in turn means that the weight will have to increase, there’s another downside though because both the MacBook Air and Pro would run much hotter, which will not be welcomed by users. One final area where the MacBook range needs to improve on is RAM because we know that they only offer 2GB to 4GB, a perfect number would be 8GB to 16GB at least in this day and age.

We can clearly see that Apple has their work cutout because if they implement one design change it has a huge knock on effect down the line, so this is why we say they need to overcome these challenges.

Looking into the unknowns – it’s almost certain that the new MacBook Pro will have a completely new design and go down the MacBook Air root by having a much slimmer unibody, but we are not so certain on the rumor that it will come with a touchscreen because of issues with its practicality. Do you feel the Mac lineup needs a Retina display?

On September 22, 2011 Apple made a beta seed of Mac OS X 10.7.2 available for developers. It is thought that this will be needed in order to download iOS 5 with iCloud. There is no report from Apple that this is needed, but why would developers be given the choice to use it? However, we have reason to believe that some of the features of iCloud need to have the update.

Now we have no idea if and when the update will take place, it could either be today or tomorrow. iTunes 10.5 has already been made available for download, so the smart money would be on tomorrow – that’s saying it’s is needed of course. Just last week Apple released 10.7.2 GM, which Computerworld says is the equivalent of Windows RTM.

This is a very clear sign that it will be needed ahead of iOS 5; trust Apple to never inform us of this. If it does come tomorrow, then we can see Apple’s servers come under a huge strain, although we do know that they will now be using their new data center, which should be more than up to the task – well so we assume.

For iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 owners who use Windows instead of Mac, then you need to make sure that you have Vista or Windows 7. Below we have a widget for you, which will keep you updated with tweets to let you know when OS X Lion 10.7.2 has become available for download. Once you know then you can just check for an update if it does not automatically do so.

Update: OS X Lion 10.7.2 has just gone live.

How many Windows users have felt left out that Apple offered Mac users the opportunity to install apps on their computers via the Mac App Store? Well you will be happy to know that Windows PC users will now be able to run Android apps on their systems. It is BlueStacks that makes this all possible, which is an App Player that is designed to make the impossible possible.

What makes this app so good is how it will run full screen, so no trying to use an app that looks lost on a large screen. This workaround was not a simple task, as it took two years to build, with 10 engineers working hard to get it developed. If you have wanted to play Angry Birds on your Windows PC, then it’s a nice feeling to know that you can now do so.

This is what worries me about Microsoft, it takes a third-party to make this possible, and it’s for this reason why Apple has grown beyond them. AllThingsD reports that the BlueStacks app will come pre-loaded with 10 apps, but you can also push your apps from your Android handset to your PC – something that isn’t possible on the Mac.

It’s not certain how much interest there has been in this new app, but we can see it gain momentum. Having said that, with the install base of Android, and the likelihood that most of them use Windows, it won’t be too long before downloads hit the millions in a short amount of time. We now wonder if the company will offer the same kind of solution to iPhone users with a Windows PC, or BlackBerry?

For years we have come to the realization that the Mac operating system is a much safer bet than Windows. However, as the software becomes more popular not only is it prone to more attacks, but also more users will find a few security issues that have been there all the time. There is a password loophole with Mac OS X Lion, which could allow a hacker in and to change your password.

Apple does not have a fix for the problem yet, but you can be sure that they will be all over it and issue a solution fast. In the mean time there are a few things that you can do to safeguard yourself, which we will get to a little later. With the new Lion OS you have to type in a password each time you wish to make any changes to your system, so seems funny that Lion has a loophole to allow someone to see these passwords.

Once in a hacker can lock you out of your system by changing these passwords. This is made easy, as the new Mac OS will not ask for authentication. Crave explains that there is a command that can be typed in Terminal that will allow you to make these password changes. That is not the only issue though, as there is a way to also find other passwords as well.

You can understand why users would be worried, but there is not really a need to – well only if you are the only one who uses your Mac that is. This is not exactly the biggest issue, but it is still one that Apple will want to resolve. However, if your Mac is being shared or is a public computer, then your are in a spot of trouble.

Thankfully three are three things that you can do to safeguard your Mac running on Lion, the first is to switch-off auto log-in, enable passwords when your computer wakes up and finally turn off guest accounts. Please add your comments below if you have experienced any issues with mac OS X Lion.

It has now been just over a week since Apple released OS X Lion, and in that time we have shared with you a few problems that Mac users have been experiencing. These include an external display bug and videos crashing in YouTube. We have since learned that there is an overheating issue with the MacBook Pro who has installed this latest update.

Questions have been asked if the Pro is ready for Lion, as this is not an isolated incident. Having looked on Apple Discussions we can see that a number of MBP owners are now noticing how hot their laptops are getting, with some saying that they get so hot that you could fry an egg on it. You may think that this is a joke, but a few searches on YouTube will prove that this can actually happen.

In most cases the reason for the overheating is an issue with the fan, as it does not power up, and if it does it just stays on far too long. In either case the laptop will still be too hot to place on your lap and will also slow down. Those affected will notice that when they go to open programs or WebPages it all happens a bit too slow.

There are said to be two solutions to this, but there are mixed success rates for this. The first is to deactivate FileVault, as it is set to active by default. The other solution is to disable Spotlight indexing; the way to do this is by opening up the Terminal and pasting in sudo mdutil -a -i off. You are warned that doing this could lead to data loss, so it is up to you if you wish to chance it or not.

Do not worry about losing Spotlight, as there are a number of apps on the Mac App Store to do the job, just until Apple is able to come up with a fix. Other problems reported are slow startup and shutdown times. We cannot say for certain if this is true or not, but our MacBook Air has suffered from this issue.

Having said that, not all are having such issue with OS X Lion, as there are some cases where Macs and iMacs have been running much cooler. We have yet to keep our MBA on long enough to test this, but our iMac runs like a dream.

Have you noticed that your Mac is overheating since the Lion upgrade, and has turning off Spotlight helped at all?

The rumors that the MacBook Air refresh being released today along with Mac OS X Lion will not subside, even if we think that there is not much hope. However,...

The rumors that the MacBook Air refresh being released today along with Mac OS X Lion will not subside, even if we think that there is not much hope. However, when the new 2011 MBA does finally get its release date you might want to delay your purchase. You may wonder why that is, well we will aim to explain this for you.

Whenever Apple launches a new product there seems to be a panic, it’s as if you are expecting a worldwide shortage of these devices – although this is often the case with new versions of the iPhone and iPad. However, this is not likely to happen with the MacBook Air, as it has not been Apple’s most successful device. Having said that, there seems to be a lot more interest since the last update, and that is expected to continue with the next version.

Deal News has conducted a study, looking into the pricing of new Mac products, and there you can clearly see that a pattern has emerged. Apple is not in the game of offering discounts in a hurry, not even when their products are entering the last few weeks and months of their lifecycle. It is for this reason why we all rush of the starting blocks to get the likes of a new MacBook Air.

However, you need to learn to be patient, as there are deals out there, you just have to know where to look. The main goal of the above website is to find you deals all year round, so has pulled three years worth of previous deals with Apple products to explain how you can save a few dollars by just waiting a little while, in some cases even a day.

We can understand why people would want to take the advice of not buying a new Apple product on launch day, as well as never buying direct from Apple. In the past the likes of Amazon, MacMall and MacConnection has all been able to offer a discounted rate after only a few days

Take the 2010 MacBook Air, in just one day MacConnection offered it for $30 less, but is that saving worth the hassle. We know that Apple has been very aggressive with their pricing lately, and we have reason to believe that the new MacBook Air with its rumored return to a backlit keyboard will come in a little cheaper than the current version. When I buy products I always look for the best deal possible, but that is not the case when it comes to Apple. The service that you get direct from Apple is second to none, if you were to buy an Apple product from a reseller they will not stop you from buying something that is not needed. Just a few days ago I took possession of a new 27-inch iMac, and when I went to purchase a few more items an Apple store member advised me against it, saving me £200 in the process.

Remember it is up to you if and when you buy a new Mac device, you have to choose between price and quality of service.

We already seem to know so much about Max OS X Lion, thanks to Apple sharing a host of information during their WWDC 2011 keynote in June, along with further details on their website. However, not much has been mentioned about the social tweaks in Mac OS X Lion. We will now try to remedy that during this pre-release date period.

When you upgrade your Mac OS X to Lion you will not know this, but the video-calling feature from Facebook and Skype is disabled by default. This is not the case with all operating systems, but we know for certain that it is with Apple’s. However, there is an easy way to enable it so that you can take full advantage of the new social service.

Best Techie has managed to solve this issue and enable the feature for all browsers on Mac OS X Lion. As you would expect we shall look at Safari first. The first step is go to system preferences and select advanced tab; from there you will need to enable the developer menu. Doing this will make the user agent compatible with the likes of the new Facebook video calling service.

Google Chrome is a little different, as you have to run a few complex commands in the terminal, which you can see for yourself here. This does show that Safari is a little simpler when it comes to enabling certain features.

As you would expect with Firefox you will need to download and install a plugin, which you can get from here. After you have done this you will need to enable Facebook Video calling, which you can do by going here.

We do have an issue with these plugins, as Firefox does seem a little resource hungry with Mac OS X, and adding even more plugins will only add to the drain.

Mac OS X Lion is still not with us, but we do know for certain that it will be released this month. Most rumors suggest July 14th (hope so as I am waiting to order my new iMac). We expect this to be the most popular Mac OS X upgrade yet, as you will be able to download via the Mac App Store at a fraction of the price of previous versions.

It seems that it is not just you or I who are waiting on the release, as the rumored Mac Pro and MacBook Air are as well. It has been suggested that both devices are reliant on the new OS before they get released.

2011 could be the year that Apple would have updated all of their devices, if we were to believe some of the recent rumors. They have already updated their MacBook Pro and iMac range, as well as their Time Capsule to a 3TB version. We also know that there is to be a new iPhone and possibly iPod and Touch, and not forgetting that the 2011 Mac Pro and MacBook Air are imminent. We thought we would offer a release roundup of these two devices, just to get us in the mood for the refresh of both models.

We know that Apple do have other products that need an upgrade, but those listed above are the most important to Apple customers, and those that make them the most money – well apart from that Time Capsule that is. We already spoke a few days back about how both the Mac Pro and the Mac Mini will come pre-installed with Mac OS X Lion, which tells us that they will either be released in late July or anytime after that. Our guess would be early August.

There were some comments saying that the Mac Pro had already been updated back in March, but people were getting confused, as that was the MacBook Pro. The current range of Mac Pros use either 6, 8 or 12 cores, but a recent article on 9 to 5 Mac suggests that the 2011 refresh could be upped to 16 cores.

So you can see this Mac Pro upgrade sneaked up on us all, so there is not much more we can tell you. However, the MacBook Air is another story. The most recent rumor also suggested that the MacBook Air was to be released with Lion, which is why the refresh has been delayed. This is a good thing, because that means that the new model will be up and running on what is said to become the best OS on the market.

Another article of ours looked at how a future MBA, maybe the 2012 version will make the SSD obsolete. The new technology is called Content Addressable Memory (CAM) technology, but we are a little skeptical of this claim, as SSD is still pretty new technology and has not been utilized in a way that it should be.

Our last rumor that we will cover looks at the possibility of the MacBook Air being run by an A5 processor instead of the much-wanted Intel Sandy Bridge CPU. We cannot see that there is any truth to this, as that would mean that Apple would put a greater emphasis on battery life and not performance.

Our final word is this; if we have learned anything then it’s not to take too much notice of rumors regarding Apple devices, not until they actually announce it themselves.
