Yesterday Apple made Snow Leopard 10.6.7 update available for download, but we failed to mention that although there were a number of fixes, there were also problems as well. One such issue was with the new MacBook Air, such as crashing.

It does seem stupid that this update was released mostly to resolve an issue with the MacBook Pro, but has now caused an issue for the MacBook Air. The main problem is to do with running the latest version of iTunes, which 9 to 5 Mac reports that users have to force the jukebox application to shutdown. It seems that users are able to start iTunes, but then after 20 seconds the application will freeze, which means that the Air will not respond to any commands.

Apple has yet to comment on the issue, but as always there is a workaround – just until a minor iTunes update becomes available. The first solution is to use TimeMachine, even if you do not have an external hard drive you can still use the internal storage. Having said that, most of us seem to have an external hard drive these days.

The easiest solution for now is to not download and update to Snow Leopard 10.6.7 just yet, not until Apple is able to resolve the issue – although this is a bit late for those who have already done so. I am not certain if I would want to fix this issue by using Repair Disk Permissions, I have done this in the past and my MacBook Air seems very slow to start-up now – but that is a different issue.

We do not know for certain if this affects all MacBook Air owners or those with just the new model – or even just a select few of those? Are you affected by this latest problem?

Those of you using Mac Snow Leopard, Apple have just released the Mac OS X 10.6.7 update for the software. The update will provide some improvements with compatibility, security, and stability.

Lex Friedman of Macworld is reporting that the update also improves the reliability of Back to My Mac, and sorts out problems with transferring files to SMB servers. You will also see some minor changes to the Mac App Store.

There is also some security fixes for Snow Leopard that are available separately as Security Update 2011-001. Problems that caused users accounts to disappear from the Login window and System Preferences with Mac OS X 10.6.5, when putting the system to sleep has now been fixed.

The update is available in both client and a server edition, either directly from Apple’s Website, or by Software Update. Mark Gurman from 9 to 5 Mac is reporting the update also fixes issues with early 2011 MacBook Pros. This includes problems with display flickering, and crashing under heavy loads.

Have you downloaded the update yet? Tell us if you have had any problems.

Yesterday Apple released a new update for Max OS X 10.6.4 Snow Leopard, this update is said to improve overall performance and reliability for gamers.

From what we can see if you play Portal, Team Fortress 2 or Starcraft II you should notice improvements, prior to this update Starcraft 2 may quit unexpectedly or become unresponsive, whereas Portal and Team Fortress 3 would experience frame rate issues.

The update itself is 69.2MB in size and can be downloaded via software update, alternatively you can download it manually here, to install this update you must be running Mac OS X 10.6.4.

The frame rate issues are said to be a problem with a wide range of Macs produced in 2009-2010, these include mid-2010 MacBook Pros, mid 2010 MacBooks, early 2009 Mac Pros and a few of the iMac and Mac mini models.

It looks as if Apple, Valve, ATI and Nvidia worked together to produce this update, which makes you think it was a driver-related issue.

Have you installed this update? If so, have you noticed better gaming performance?

Cloud computing has arrived for the Mac OS with the release of the Mac Cloud Drive. Developed by UK based SMEStorage, who have launched the first beta of a Mac Cloud Drive that allows for up to ten commercial storage providers that can be accessed straight from a virtual drive in the Mac Snow Leopard and Leopard operating systems.

The Cloud Drive supports over ten popular Cloud Storage vendors that include, RackSpace, Google Docs, Microsoft SkyDrive, and Amazon S3 cloud files. Users will be able to see files from many different storage clouds through a normal file system.

The developer now has virtual cloud drives for Mac, Linux, and Windows desktops, and has promised to continue to improve their tooling and products for all three operating systems. We have reported on the developer’s iPhone version of cloud storage in the past, and are now adding the Mac Cloud Drive to their catalogue.

Head over to the SMEStorage website for more information on Mac Cloud Drive and to download.
