There have been a few Hollywood films about the famous Robin Hood, and today we can tell you that Robin Hood The Legend of Sherwood lands on the Mac. The game has just been launched on the Mac App Store this week, as you take on the role of the hero to help the poor.

Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood 1.0 that was originally developed by Spellbound Entertainment is now available for OSX Lion. There are versions in English, French, and German as you take on the role of Robin Hood as well as his merry men. Players can also be Friar Tuck, Little John, or Will Scarlet as they take on the infamous Sheriff of Nottingham and Guy Gisbourne.

This is a real time strategy game as you take the battlefield against the likes of nasty Prince John Lackland. During the game you will enjoy the great English landscape of 1190 with massive castles and comical characters.

Your first mission will have you taking control of Robin Hood as you attempt to free your comrades, but you will have to be smart and fast. There are over thirty non-linear missions with five different castles that are visited at night and day times. You will even experience different weather conditions as you take the role of nine characters.

Users can take control of their hero’s sword in battle with an innovative fighting system, and a variety of tactics can be used to gain victory. Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood 1.0 is available worldwide on the Mac App Store for $19.99.

Did you know that you could now download Mac OS X Lion apps right now from the Mac App Store; so does this mean that the operating system itself is imminent? We had reported that it would be made available today, but as the day is almost over for most of us our attention turns to tomorrow, but are we just grabbing at straws here.

The app in question that will now fully support Mac OS X Lion is called WordCrasher, and is said to be the first – well the first one that OS X Daily has come across. There could be many more, which is a bit of a surprise to us, as we learned earlier this week that developers were having a few issues with getting these apps to work with the new Mac OS.

Apple is now said to be accepting apps at a fast rate, so one would presume that the release for version 10.7 would follow shortly. We recently said that the update could now happen tomorrow, but we still do not hold out much hope, since recent reports have come in suggesting July 21st instead.

The reason for this expected delay is due to a security issue; it must be a bad one to delay the release by more than a week. Well we say a delay; there can never be a delay until we enter August, as we already know that Steve Jobs said that Mac OS X Lion would be with us in July. That’s what it also says on Apple’s website.

Apple still has another two weeks to play with the release of Mac OS X Lion in time, and by then they should be able to approve hundreds of apps for support. Releasing it now would not be in the interest of the users, as the apps that they already have might not work once they install the new OS.

The easiest way to see if an app from the Mac App Store supports Mac OS X Lion is by looking at the new features. If you see full screen support, then this is a good sign that it will be ready for Apple’s latest Mac operating system. The only other sign is the date in which it was updated, like WordCrasher, which received its update today, July 14, 2011.

Do you think that we will see Mac OS X Lion this week, ore is it more likely to happen next week?

Within the last few hours Apple has set the new Final Cut Pro X free and made the software live to download exclusively on the Mac App Store. The latest addition to Apple’s growing software base is said to set a new standard in video workflow, and will help you deliver effects and organize like never below.

The new version of Apple’s professional video editing software has reinvented this industry, and aims to make everything faster and easier. You’ll be able to render in the background while you work with no interruptions, the trackless and flexible canvas will have you editing on the improved Magnetic Timeline, and when you import your video content it will be categorized automatically by people, media, and shot type.

Apple has taken their biggest step since the original Final Cut Pro, and the power of modern 64-bit architecture helps things run smoothly.

The benefits of Apple’s ColorSync color management technology are shown when you play back videos in QuickTime, Motion, or Final Cut Pro. The media will stay in consistent and accurate color no matter what stage the process is in, from the import to the final export.

Final Cut Pro X will use graphics card hardware (GPU) on your machine, which will speed up the processing while rendering and running effects previews. This means you can work in an environment that allows for richer real time effects. You will also get two companion apps when you download via the Mac App Store, and these are Compressor 4 (for media encoding) and Motion 5 (for improved motion graphics). These apps cost a little extra, which at the time of writing retail for $49.99 each.

You can download Final Cut Pro X right now on the Mac App Store. The current price is $299.99, although make sure you read the system requirements before downloading.

Below this article we have a 4-minute video that gives you an overview of the new Final Cut Pro X. Have a watch and feel free to share your thoughts on the new Final Cut Pro in the comments. We’ve seen that the new features are a massive advancement, and certain blogs are now claiming it will cause real damage to Adobe. Feel free to share your thoughts on this point.

Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference developers kicks off next week, therefore people are beginning to get excited about what Apple will unveil at the show, a recent article posted on AppleInsider suggests that Mac OS X 10.7 Lion will make an appearance.

AppleInsider’s article points out that a developer build of Mac OS X 10.6.8 features a change which is said to enhance the Mac App Store for Mac OS X Lion, this suggests that not only is Lion coming pretty soon but it will also be purchasable via the Mac App Store.

Despite being able to easily purchase and install Mac OS X 10.7 Lion from the Mac App Store it is thought that Lion will also be available on a disc, this ensures that everyone will be able to install the new OS version no-matter their situation.

Generally Apple’s software announcements result in them going live later that day, therefore we could potentially see Mac OS X 10.7 hit the Mac App Store sometime next week. Obviously there is a chance hat AppleInsider’s article is inaccurate, however it has been roughly 22 months since Snow Leopard was released therefore a major release is long overdue. It has to be said that it also makes sense to roll-out the update via the Mac App Store which was launched earlier this year.

Do you think a Max OS X 10.7 Lion launch will come next week?

If you love playing first-person shooter games such as the Call of Duty titles and you own an Apple Mac, then I think I may just have some good news for you. It appears that the COD 4: Modern Warfare game has recently been released onto the Mac App Store.

However, according to a recent article over at electricpig.co.uk by Mic Wright, there is a bit of disappointing news to go with it, and that’s the price. The COD 4: Modern Warfare game is currently priced up at £17 at Amazon, while the price on the Mac App Store is £29.99.

As Mic Wright notes in his article, there’s no box to produce or postage to pay, so that price may seem a little steep. If you don’t mind paying that price however and you’re after downloading the game, then be aware that it does come in at over 6GB.

You can read more about the game and the recommended/minimum system requirements – which includes a CPU speed of 2GHz, 1GB RAM and hard disk space of 8GB – over at the itunes.apple.com website. The COD 4: Modern Warfare app does require Mac OS X 10.6.6 or later.

Would you pay £29.99 to play the COD 4: Modern Warfare game on your Mac?

Apple’s new Mac App Store was launched yesterday, and we have already told you that you will need to update your operating system to take advantage of the new service. On launch the new Mac App Store has over 1,000 applications available.

Today an article over at The Guardian is reporting that Apple have announced that more than one million apps were downloaded on the first day. That is pretty impressive figures and Apple’s vice president of internet services – Eddy Cue – said “We think there’s a real opportunity to revolutionize the way the way that apps get distributed on the Mac.”

The company is using its experience from the hugely successful iTunes App Store to make the Mac version a hit. We could now see more people purchasing software in this way instead of installing from a purchased disc, and users of MacBook Air’s which don’t have an optical drive the service will be ideal.

Features like Game Centre, and in-app purchases have not made it to the Mac App Store so far, but Apple haven’t ruled out adding these at a later date. There were some problems reported by users of the new service on the first day.

Some people where reporting getting the “error 100” message when first launching the store, and the team over at Tuaw say to fix this problem is to just quit the store and reload it. Other fixes include restarting iTunes or the Mac which is being used.

Have you used the Mac App Store yet?
