The Dev Team hacker “MuscleNerd” recently tweeted “iOS5 jailbroken on ipt4g: http://is.gd/7GxIcK http://is.gd/BwPvfh via limera1n + tethered boot..not too many surprises ”, the tweet came less than 24 hours after the keynote which is a little embarrassing for Apple. iOS 5 has not yet gone public so perhaps Apple will combat that jailbreak before its release this fall, but we doubt it. At the moment you need to have your computer connected to a computer for it to boot, however MuscleNerd has said that they are still working on the final release version of the jailbreak, this should mean that as soon as iOS 5 goes public a jailbreak will already exist.

We have embedded one image below which clearly shows Cydia running an iOS 5-based iPod Touch (fourth generation), there has been no mention of an iPad or iPhone jailbreak, but with months until the proper iOS 5 release hackers have plenty of time.

There are a lot of different problems people are experiencing, so let’s start with the obvious solutions, first of all at the moment LimeRa1n is for Windows only, therefore if you are running Linux or Mac OS X you will not be able to use the jailbreak.

One of the most common problems results in iPhones getting stuck on the Apple logo, if this is what is happening to you check out this very useful post. If your iPhone is stuck on the Limera1n logo you should try rebooting your iPhone, if this fails try a hard reset (instructions here).

If you are trying to run Limera1n on Windows Vista or Windows 7 you may need to try running the program is administrator, to do this simply right click on Limera1n and click “run as administrator”.

The Software is available for download now, and while some people will love having administrator access on the new Apple TV, it will be disappointing for those that want to play their iOS apps on the big screen (there are none available at the time of writing).

It wasn’t long from the launch of Apple’s new TV device that we come across news on its future Jailbreaking potential, which was originally done by the iPhone Dev-Team.

If you haven’t tried installing the Limera1n jailbreak for your iOS 4.1 device yet, you can do so by obtaining the download over at Geohot’s website here.

While the download notes says that this will jailbreak all devices on iOS 4.1, it looks as if there is a known problem when trying to install Limera1n on the iPhone 3GS on iOS 4.1. This has been confirmed by Geohot himself with the following message:

”3GS new bootrom is broken, fix pending”

For those of you who are having problems, hold on as we’re sure Geohot is working on a quick fix for you. The good news however, is that Limera1n appears to be working flawlessly on the iPhone 4 running iOS 4.1.

We can already see by the number of tweets from @chronicdevteam that they do not seem too happy to be beaten with a jailbreak for iOS 4, which unlike GreenPois0n supports all models of the iPhone, iPod Touch, as well as the Apple iPad.

Limera1n is currently only available for Windows, which you can download by going to the official limera1n website. Mac and Linux versions will be coming soon.
