One of the most significant smartphones LG has ever developed has been teased on the official news feed, and this is the LG Optimus G, which will innovate with a battery that can live a lot longer and includes a gapless display panel. LG still kept most of the finer details under wraps, although it’s good to see them confirm the codename and information about the innovation behind the upcoming smartphone.

The LG Optimus G will include the best technology from their sister companies, and boasts the 1.5GHz S4 Pro APQ8064 processor, a thinner profile, and not only a phone that feels faster but also delivers increased battery life. The extra juice comes thanks to innovation from LG Chem, and the battery had been designed from the ground up to deliver a 60 percent longer lifespan when compared to similar sized batteries found in other smartphones.

LG Display also innovated to bring their latest technology to the Optimus G, and this means a True HD IPS+ Display that doesn’t need as much power, which in fact can deliver 70 percent less power consumption while creating 470 nits of brightness. If you’ve experienced screen burn problems in the past from AMOLED displays, then you’ll be glad to know this won’t be an issue with the new IPS+ display.

The G2 Touch Hybrid Display is certainly the focus of discussion with LG fans, and the majority of people are commenting on the resolution that is unusually set at 1280×768, which some people feel this might be a 1366×768 panel with the other pixels being used for the buttons at the bottom. The issue with this is trying to understand why LG would want to under-state the Optimus G specs?

Are you looking forward to the LG Optimus G, and what should be something special thanks to a close partnership between LG’s sister companies? The CEO of LG Electronics recently said that the real difference with this smartphone project has been the control gained by their sister companies working closely together. Keep connected to PR for the full specs and release date when they’re revealed.

We’re hearing news of some LG Optimus l7 accessories that are starting to arrive at Rogers stores in Canada, which include screen protectors, skins, and cases. This is one of the best signs to show that a launch is about to come, although this news is still classed as a rumor for now until we get an official word from Rogers.

What smartphone user is the LG Optimus l7 for? You can think of this phone as a high-end phone around one year ago, so if you don’t mind missing out on features that are considered high-end in 2012, then the l7 could be perfect for you. The LG Optimus l7 specs include a 5-megapixel camera, 1GHz processor, 4.3-inch IPS LCD capacitive screen, runs on Android OS 4.0 ICS, and measures just 125x67x8mm. You can also expect 4GB of total internal memory, although this is easily expanded via the SD card slot.

One tipster from an LG store claims to have had a play with the l7, and he states that it is fluid, fast, and should be priced at $50 on a 3-year voice plan. Again this is just a rumor so take it with a pinch of salt.

We’ve also included a couple of videos below that give you a quick review of the LG Optimus l7, and cover the devices features in more detail. The release date is any day now, so those that have been waiting can relax in knowing it’s almost here. Take a look at the videos below and let us know if the l7 is for you.

Ever since the next operating system for the Android platform was revealed lots of users have been wondering if their handset will get the update. While much has been made about the fragmentation of the platform, some handset manufacturers are quite good in revealing plans for rolling out new software. Earlier this month HTC revealed the first set of handsets to get the update, and today we can tell you that LG confirms what Optimus handsets are to get ICS and promises others as well.

Before now the company has been a bit slow with getting handsets up to date with the latest versions of Android. Earlier this year they released the LG Optimus 3D and Optimus 2X that were worthy handsets but came running Android 2.2 Froyo. Now according to The Verge the company has taken to its Italian Facebook page to reveal that the Optimus 2X, 3D and Optimus Black will all be getting a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich.

Earlier this month we told you that the Optimus 2X could still be getting the update after previous reports suggesting otherwise. According to LG it is looking at the software to see if it can be provided for lower specified handsets as well. The Optimus Black is an older single core powered device so owners of other handsets with similar specifications can take heart that they may eventually gets the new operating system.

There will be many different handsets launched since the tail end of 2010 that could possibly still receive it at some point. LG have promised another update next month that could also provide some clue to when the update will start rolling out to devices.

Do you own a LG Optimus handset?

We recently gave you the news that it looks like owners of the LG Optimus 2X won’t be getting the Android Ice Cream Sandwich. Now we can tell you that the LG Optimus Gingerbread update schedule has been announced and Android 4.0 may still come.

The update will start hitting devices tomorrow with the LG Optimus 2X first of the Optimus range scheduled to get the update. According to the Inquirer owners of the Optimus 3D will start receiving the Gingerbread update from November 21st and the Optimus Black has to wait a week later on the 28th before the update will begin.

LG took to its Facebook page to announce the news and said “LG would like to express its sincere thanks to all of the Optimus Series owners who have been waiting patiently for the Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade.”

These updates are set to become available for owners of unlocked devices, so owners tied to a carrier will have to wait to hear from specific networks if they will make the update available. The delayed Android Gingerbread update was supposed to be coming for the 3D in October. Once available users will be able to convert OpenGL apps from 2D to 3D.

The Optimus 3D was released with Android 2.2 Froyo so the handset wasn’t delayed getting to the market. This schedule is for European models and could vary from country to country. There still may be some hope of Optimus 2X owners getting Ice Cream Sandwich though.

LG commented about Android 4.0 by saying they want to offer the best experience for its Optimus range, and added “we are currently reviewing the latest Android OS release and will be making a decision with our carrier partners on a rollout schedule”.

3D technology has taken off in the past few years and has now moved into mobile technology, LG’s attempt to tackle the 3D cellphone market has begun at a high cost with their upcoming release, the LG Optimus 3D, the retailer Expansys has retailed the pre-order price at £514.99 ($835).

The Optimus 3D has been given a release date of April 25 which is still a little while off yet, however it gives us plenty of time to hear more from it in the future and marvel over the current features we already know about, perhaps the most exciting feature is its ability to record video in 3D thanks to its two cameras mounted on the rear of the phone.

Obviously the price seems steep, however Expansys currently sell the 16GB iPhone 4 contract-free for £649.99 and the Google Nexus S for £539.99, therefore if the pre-order price stays at £514.99 you are paying less for a more advanced smartphone.

Overall the phone looks very nice and we are excited to see how good the 3D capabilites are but we are a little set back by the price, hopefully carriers will greatly subsidize the hefty price tag when purchased as part of a 2-year deal. Will you pre-order the LG Optimus 3D?

A couple of days ago we brought you a few details about the upcoming LG Optimus 3D smartphone, which is due to be unveiled at this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. However, it now appears that more information has surfaced, only this time it’s about UK carriers.

According to a recent article by Steve McCaskill over at pocketgamer.co.uk, Vodafone UK has recently revealed that it will indeed be selling the LG Optimus 3D handset from the moment it becomes available. Although at this stage, they haven’t divulged any pricing information.

The LG Optimus 3D is said to feature a screen that’s larger than 4 inches, which will of course allow for glasses-free 3D viewing, and a dual-lens camera that will be capable of 3D video recording. It is also said to feature Wi-Fi and as previously mentioned, HDMI/DLNA connectivity.

Vodafone doesn’t appear to be the only network that will be selling the upcoming handset either, as Three UK has also given strong hints that it will be heading their way. As Ben Sillis at electricpig.co.uk reports, a tweet from Three’s official Twitter appeared to link to an LG Optimus 3D teaser trailer.

What are your thoughts on the LG Optimus 3D?

The LG Android range has, in the past, been somewhat average when it comes to performance against other Androids in general. Well not any more it seems with the new LG Optimus 2X being hailed as very much above average. Nvidia, who provide the new chipset for the Optimus, even described it as a ‘super phone.’

At CES 2011, Nvidia showed off the Optimus 2X as their launch product. With their history in graphics, the Tegra 2 chipset that they provide will be fantastic for handling graphics. It also comes with full HD capability. For more information about the LG Optimus 2X including specs you can read the full review at Pocket-lint, where they explain that the 2X has great performance, but their not sold on the “design of the phone”.
.

This brings us to the news of a hands-on review provided by PhoneArena plus their video of the HDMI cable in action. They put the LG through its paces, testing its gaming capability by using it as a remote to its video playback taking advantage of the 1080p support. Check out the video below.

Most computer and smartphone makers know that Apple got the jump on them in the tablet market with the iPad, so are now planning a mass attack just to play catch-up. It is not uncommon for most of them to come out and say that their tablet will be better than the iPad, such as the LG Optimus tablet.

This is not what we think, but what LG’s Chang Ma recently said during a WSJ interview. Towards the start of the interview Ma said that LG’s upcoming tablet device will offer a number of surprises, but it will need to offer something extra special if it is to stand out against the multitude of other Android tablets about to flood the market.

Vlad Savov from Engadget has asked his readers if they think that Ma is either brave or just foolish? However, he then adds that it could just be very ambitious of LG – something that is needed to succeed in business.

LG also knows that the U.S market will be key to the success to the Optimus tablet. Do you think that this Android tablet will be able to stand out against the rest? If it does it will need to have some amazing hardware inside, but LG will be limited because of battery power – just like the rest of them. One other thing, Apple is already working on the iPad 2, which could be launched by the end of the year.

For the past month or so the only Android handsets that you would have heard about were the Droid X, HTC Incredible and EVO 4G. The latter is considered to be the best of the bunch, but we wonder for how long? LG has been a little late to the market, but the new Optimus One and Chic handsets shows their commitment.

Both phones form part of the Optimus series and was launched in the UK today. However, these are just two of what is believed to be ten new handsets – and not just on Android but other mobile OS as well.

Darren Murph from Engadget learned from a press release today that both the One and Chic will come with Android 2.2 Froyo straight out the box and will be released later this year. The Chic is everything what the name suggests – so ideal for those fashion conscious types out there.

As yet LG has failed to offer any details on an exact release date and price, but we will update you once we know more.
