We knew it was coming, but we have now had conformation that Toyota has issued a stop-sale and a recall on its LS 460 and LS 600h standard sedans. The reason for this recall is due to a problem with the electronic steering system, which as we know can become off-centered and not will return to its normal resting position after five seconds.

Detroit News reports that Toyota issued the recall on May 21, 2010 to address the problem, which they have done in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). 2010 is a year that Toyota will want to forget, but we are not even halfway through and they have already had a record number of recalls.

According to Autoblog, Toyota has already fixed the problem on the new models coming off the assembly line – so it is just those that are currently on the road. If you own a 2009 and 2010 Lexus LS sedan then you are asked to try and avoid sudden and fast turning of the steering wheel.

We do wonder how drivers can take this advice – there will be certain times that you will need to perform such a maneuver. Contact your local dealer for more details.

There have been reports that Toyota is to announce yet another recall, which once again involves its luxury Lexus brand. The fault is to do with its steering and affects the LS range – 11,500 models is thought to be recalled globally, this is according to a report from Bloomberg.

The list of models affected include: LS 600h and LS 600h L, LS 460 and the LS 460L. 3,800 of those are in the U.S. alone and will not come as a shock considering the recent list of recalls that has cost the Japanese automaker millions in fines from the U.S. government.

According to Toyota, LS customers have complained that the steering in these affected vehicles do not return to a normal position once you have tried to make a turn. In the Bloomberg report, Makiko Kitamura explains that it could be software and mechanical related.

This latest recall is just one-month after the Lexus GX460, which had stability control problems. Thankfully that was an easy fix as the ESC needed to be reprogrammed. There has not been an announcement from the NHTSA of a recall, but it seems that Toyota is currently preparing one.
