For those of you that do not own one of several tablets out on the market already, we have some news you may be interested in as Lenovo have announced plans to bring out an Android powered slate this summer and may even bring out a Windows 7 version by the end of the year.

We already knew that the company was bringing out the LePad or Skylight as we previously brought you news that it is expected anytime now. This device included some impressive specs and is also an Android tablet packing a 10.1” display.

The tablet that Lenovo plans to bring out next looks like it will be called the ThinkPad. That name may sound familiar to some of you, that’s because the company already have an impressive notebook called the ThinkPad X1.

This 10” tablet will include a stylus and be aimed at professionals. Details on specs of the device available at this time are slim other than it will run Honeycomb and have a ARM Dual Core processor. You can expect it around August time and it will most likely be priced around $450 up to $900 depending on configuration set up.

Check out more details in the article at NASDAQ. Are you impressed with Lenovo’s plans so far?

We already know that the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 is a rough and tough notebook, but what we would really like is a performance, graphics and battery review. It makes perfect sense, as these are some of the key factors that consumer and business types need to consider before making an informed decision.

There are a number of configurations that you could go for, but the test subject was a the 2.5GHz Intel Core model with 4GB of RAM, Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics and Windows 7 Professional – although only 32-bit. Engadget noted that the device booted up in just 49 seconds, and had no issues with emails, the web browser, Facebook and Twitter. What made this seem impressive is how these tasks were done while running a number of Word docs and downloading movies.

When compared to other notebooks powered by the i5 CPU, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 performed just a little better. However, things went a little south when you start to play games, as this usually requires a decent GPU. It was able to play Angry Birds on full screen, but nowhere near as good as other comparable laptops.

The up to 10 hours battery life is a hopeful target, although Lenovo do say that the standard battery is only good for 5.2 hours. You have to remember that these will not be achievable if you are downloading movies or playing games. The battery seems to drain a lot quicker when playing games, so maybe expect less than three hours in that case.

If you are looking for a thin and durable laptop, then you could do a lot worse than the Lenovo ThinkPad X1.

We saw on Engadget today that prospective buyers of the new Lenovo ThinkPad X1 can watch a short video showcasing some of the laptop’s strengths (literally). Although the video is fairly corny, it still gives the laptop enough credibility to attract buyers.

What we can see from the video is that the laptop is built with a “Military-Grade Tough” case which means that it is very durable, it also features a Gorilla Glass screen which is strong and scratch resistant. Other neat features include a backlit keyboard which is also water-resistant.

The video gives the laptop a comic image but as we showed in a previous post, the laptop also comes with a fairly high price. It has some nice specs, however we think that it has prices itself out of the market, especially when you can buy a Macbook Air for a cheaper price.

Watch the video below and tell us what you think. As a reminder, the laptop comes out May 17, so once you have watched the video below, tell us if you would buy the new laptop or whether you think there are other laptops on the market that attract you more.
