With the Consumer Electronics Show finally underway a lot of expectation rides on the new TVs that are set to be on display. Every year the TVs become larger and clearer but this year Sony is introducing their new TV which uses a new type of LED, producing more crystal clarity than ever before.

This new Crystal LED TV prototype actually uses six-million miniscule light-emitting diodes to create an image that is crystal clear. It uses the same technology that you would find in the screens used at a majority of professional sporting events, which is different from the technology used in regular LED displays that already exist on the market. LEDs are used as a backlight for LCD TVs on existing LED TVs.

Some of the improved experiences viewers can gain from a display like this include low power consumption and a wider viewing display than LCD display TVs as well as a faster video image response time and improved color range and contrast. According to the report at TG Daily, Sony is claiming the video image response time is approximately 10 times faster, the color gamut is 1.4 times larger and the contrast is 3.5 times higher in light environments.

This TV achieves these improvements by mounting ultrafine LEDs in each of the RGB colors (Red-Green-Blue), one per pixel. By doing this the light efficiency is dramatically improved according to Sony. The company expects the technology used in this TV will compete with that used in OLED TVs. If you’re interested in getting your hands on a TV like this we unfortunately do not have any details on when the product will become available, but one thing we do know is that when it does become available it won’t be cheap.

Would you be interested in purchasing Sony’s new Crystal LED TV?

Many consumers are buying nice new flat screen TVs and getting away from the old Cathode ray tube. Whether they go down the 3D route or stick to the more traditional set, with prices becoming more affordable, many people now own an LCD or plasma set in their houses. But once you get your new TV home, how do you make the most of that flat screen TV?

A lot of people who have just bought a new TV just take it out of the box and connect everything up and switch it on. Modern TV sets now tune themselves to channels and set up is quite straight forward, but there are plenty of things which can be done to get the most out of the unit.

Screen calibration is a good way of improving the picture quality of a TV. There are professionals who can come out to you and do this for you, but not everyone can afford it. But there are cheaper ways to achieve this as many DVDs have THX picture calibration section which include Star Wars. There is also dedicated calibration DVDs available for a small price.

Positioning of the TV can also have a major affect on the screen image, as light coming in from a window can be an issue. Many flat screen TVs have small speakers which don’t do them justice when watching that blockbuster movie. This is where many people turn to a surround system, with 5.1 currently being the most popular and convenient.

Many people buy a dedicated receiver which nowadays can allow you to connect up many devices including games consoles and Blu-ray players. Unfortunately this can take up to much room for many, so that’s where all-in-ones come in handy. These can either be a DVD player of Blu-ray but still offer 5.1 surround sound and have everything in one box.

There are also many quality sound bars available now which although not quite as good as dedicated surround sound system; they are a great improvement over the standard TV speakers. A highly controversial topic is HDMI leads, and whether there is any difference between a really cheap one and a more expensive model.

Many people believe as they are carrying a digital signal of basically 1s and 0s, so the price of cables doesn’t affect picture quality. But on the other side you have the issue of cheaper materials causing interference from other sources, but some people think nothing spending a fortune on a HDMI lead.

Leads that can make a difference are speaker cables running from the receiver or an all-in-one to the speakers. Just replacing the cheap wire which often comes with some systems can lead to a vast improvement in sound quality.

Other notable improvements can come from better stands that the speakers are placed on. Some can have sand or a similar substance filled inside the stand to help improve sound quality. Have you done any of the above things with your flat screen TV? Or is there anything else you have done?

If we were to go back 10 years ago the only choice that you had to make when buying a new TV was which size and brand, but things are much harder these days. Now you not only have to consider those previous two choices, you now have to choose between a Plasma, LCD or LED TV.

Plasma TVs were the first large flat-panel TVs to come to market, and some of the early versions were beasts, and also required a separate tuner box. They have come a long way since then, with Panasonic being a leader in the Plasma market.

We have known for some time that these new TVs struggle to match black levels of CRT sets, but new Plasmas are now coming close, which is a major factor when choosing a TV. There are two downsides to Plasmas, high-energy consumption and burn-in.

LCDs were next to market, these have now become very popular, but the larger models are much more expensive than their Plasma rivals. The main issue with LCD TVs is the poor black levels, although they have improved over the years. Another bad point is the viewing angle; older models were very poor and could only be watched in a limited field of view.

However, LCD TVs does not suffer with burn images on the screen and have greater resolutions.

Next up with have LED, this is like an offshoot of LCD. Remember that there are two types of LED TV, conventional rear and edge lighting. However, just remember that the latter carries a higher premium. The best part about LED is that they have greater black levels than LCD, and is more on par with Plasma black levels.

For those of you who are concerned about how much energy you use, then you will be interested to know that LED TV has the lowest energy consumption over all the flat panel TVs. Choosing between the three is not that hard for me, i would choose LED; yes they carry a higher premium, but the difference in quality will be worth it.

For a greater understanding of each TV set, then visit Wikipedia for Plasma, LCD and LED.

When choosing to purchase a new TV online you should always remember to visit a local consumer electronics store to take a look at the TV first. How many times have you bought a TV online only to be disappointed when you try it out for the first time? However, this is never likely to happen when you choose the Samsung UN46C6300SF LED TV.

The reason I say this is because it is at the higher end of the scale when it comes to TVs, so the moment that you turn it on you will know that you have made a good investment. The TV has a 46-inch screen, so not great if you only have a small room.

The Samsung UN46C6300SF is a 1080p Full HD TV and offers 120Hz clear motion, which helps to improve fast moving scenes. The TV also boasts an ultraclear panel, so when connected up to a Blu-ray player you know you will see all the colors and vivid images as the director wanted you to.

Other features include: optional mounting kit, wide color enhancer plus, DNSe sound, 2USB and 4 HDMI ports. I can tell you from experience that you will not regret choosing a Samsung TV over other top brands. get more details and a price here.

Earlier we mentioned that AAFES has released their Black Friday 2010 ad, and one of the TVs that will be on offer is the Sony KDL52NX800 52-inch LED TV. Their standard price is $1,999, but Amazon has it up for $1,697.00. However, AAFES has an ace up its sleeve, as they will sell the TV for just $1,499.

Most Black Friday sales feature low-end TV models but the Sony KDL52NX800 is in a different league. The design is slim and offers high contrast levels, along with smooth images. There are so many great features built-in to this TV, and Wi-Fi is one of them, allowing you to connect to devices in your home that store your music and videos.

This Sony BRAVIA TV comes with ‘Motionflow Technology’, so with a 240Hz refresh rate watching fast paced movies and sports has never looked so good. The most striking feature about this TV is its picture quality, that’s thanks to the Bravia Engine 3 fully digital processor, just connect a Blu-ray player up and you will see just what I mean.

For more details on this visit Amazon, and to get the best deal come Black Friday visit AAFES.

It was another big step for the growing 3D TV trend today when South Korea’s second largest electronics company LG, announced the release of it’s latest backlight LED 3D TV.

Available to buy in Korea from today the 72LEX9 has (as the model number suggests) 72-inches of visual delight, this makes it the worlds largest commercially sold 3D TV with LED backlight. Now before we get corrected its the largest with LED backlight, not the largest 3D TV. That title is held by Mitsubishi with their Diamond WD-82838 82-inch 1080p 3D DLP HDTV, that has been on the shelves since Spring 2010.

Back to the 72LEX9, LG provided it with features such as: 480Hz TruMotion panel, full LED backlight, 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio, wireless AV link and DLNA. It will also contain four HDMI ports and one USB with YouTube and Google Picasa support. Stereoscopic 3D glasses will be required but it is not known if they will come with the TV.

Like we said Korea have had first look at the LG, but the rest of us will have to wait until the second quarter of 2011. Head over to CrunchGear for more information and to see some pictures of this monster TV.

A few years ago we started to see CRT TVs fall out of fashion as consumers had a new type of TV – LCD. These were much thinner than the former. If you were to tell consumers that LCD TVs would get much thinner within a few years, they would have said that you were crazy. Well that is just what has happened with the introduction of LED.

These have now been around for over a year now, but they are getting thinner again. CES 2010 took place at the start of the year and had on show a new range of LED TVs, but with a small difference – the introduction of 3D technology. There are a number of new LED television sets to choose from in 2010, your decision will depend on a number of things, price, specs and design.

When it comes to LED TVs, one company leading the charge is Samsung, they are to launch three new models all capable of 3D – yes, yet another new technology – these include the C7000, C8000 and C9000 Series. These TVs have now started to hit the US market; the C7000 Series comes in 46- and 55-inch models. The C8000 and C9000 Series also comes with 46- and 55-inch models, the larger 65-inch model will be released in May.

Panasonic always seems to be late to the party than Samsung, there is a number of reasons for this, but the main one has to do with getting its technology right, there is no denying that Panasonic is one of the best TV makers on the planet. They did debut a 3DTV back in 2008, but we seem to be waiting a while to get an ultra thin LED TV, we all know how much Panasonic loves Plasma, which is now considered old technology.

Sony will be one of the latest consumer electronics companies to launch their first 3D LED TV, this will happen in June. There will be three models released, one of which is the HX800 and HX600 will use Sony’s LED edge backlit technology, with the latter offering backlighting with local dimming.

LG is on par with Samsung when it comes to its TV technology, with consumers often saying that the later has the slight edge. The best model coming from LG this year will be the Infinia LX9900 LED 3DTV, but do not expect this to be cheap. The model will not cost as much as a Panasonic or Sony, but still much more than you have been used to paying for an LG.

There is to be other models from LG, but they will not come with active shutter glasses as the model does above. Other models we can expect to see this year from the Korean company include: LX9500 series, LH950 and the LX6500.

Philips is one consumer electronics maker who is not having a huge push with its LED TV or 3D range, but they do have the 3D-ready 9000 series coming this year. We wonder how this company will ever compete with the likes of LG or Samsung, who seem to launch more TV models in a year than Phillips does in five.

We know two things, 2010 will be the year of LED TVs and 3D TVs, but will you be jumping on the bandwagon. For more details on each model visit Gizmag
