If you work hard then you’ll know that today is celebrated for the contributions of workers, so what better way to spend it than treating yourself to something nice for all that hard work you’ve done.

Best Buy have been running the sale since Friday, so you may have bought something via their online store already and gained a bargain, but if you haven’t then we’ll point you in the direction of a few good deals.

Today, Labor Day 2011, is the last day of Best Buys special sale. If you like gadgets and technology then you’re in for a real treat if you have money to spend. The last few days were great fun for those that attended some of the Labor Day parades in costumes this weekend, although there could be a chance to do this today if you missed it.

The video below this article shows you the Dragon Con Parade for 2011, an event perfect for geeks and sci-fi fans, which features some cool costumes including Ghostbusters and Storm Troopers. Another post found here looks at how to geek out on Labor Day, and with a day off work some people hate the idea of using this time for chores and would rather party with others. Feel free to share your geeky ideas in the comments, how will you spend Labor Day? Did you attend the premier sci-fi convention this weekend?

We won’t focus on the politics during Labor Day events, like President Obama’s speech that’s scheduled to take place in Detroit at the Labor Day observance, and the job plan clues that some people are hoping for. Let’s instead look at some cool costumes perfect for a Labor Day parade today, and more specifically for geeks and sci-fi fans.

If you ask most young people today what is Labor Day? How many would know its history and what it really means, including the workers that lost their life during strikes?

While it means something different to a range of people, and opinions annoy some, it’s not only people that get the meaning of Labor Day wrong, which was shown in a recent post by gadget blog, Gizmodo. They posted a screenshot of what Apple’s iTunes thought Labor Day is after running a search, and this image can be seen below. Let us know your thoughts on this search returning details on pregnancy and babies, while it’s funny for some of us, others find the inaccuracy disgusting.

Many of our young readers, from teenagers to young adults, see Labor Day in 2011 as a time for sales and getting a good deal. This goes for many types of products including music, movies, and apps. Some retail stores and online websites see Labor Day as a time to increase sales, and aim to tempt visitors with big discounts. One brand doing just this is EA Mobile; you can see this page that shows discounts on iPhone and iPad apps. EA has listed some iPhone apps for 99 cents and iPad apps for $1.99, which is almost 80% off for some of their applications. Have you seen any good deals on offer this year during the Labor Day weekend?

Not everyone has the money to spend on Labor Day sales, and it’s a fact that some young people are more concerned about unemployment this year. This article looks at the high unemployment rate among young people, which 17.4 percent of those 16 to 24 are said to be jobless in the U.S.

Earlier today we looked at Best Buy’s not so good Labor Day Sale, although the site did work, which is less than we can say about Costco at the time of writing. Costco and Home Deport are both known for great deals on special occasions, and with today being Labor Day we expected to see something good.

Those that felt the same way might have been disappointed to get “The server at www.costco.com is taking too long to respond” or a server timeout message. It seems that Costco may be in big demand on Labor Day, so much so that their server cannot handle the load.

This has left people looking for Costco locations and store opening times, rather than seeing them on the “find a warehouse page” that normally works on the official site. Do you know of any good sites that offer Costco store opening times and locations? Are you having problems accessing the official site?
