Earlier on this week, we told you how EA will be aiming to release FIFA 14 with a lot more emphasis on online features and always staying connected. Now, we have some well-timed details on PES 2014, the game that is likely to feature on next-gen consoles alongside their rival, but now also on a brand new gaming engine.

That means that the arrival of PES 2014 is set to be a monumental one, as not only will it be the first Pro Evolution Soccer game on a new home console, but it will be also running on a brand new Fox Engine, the same engine that is being used to develop Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes.

The pressure is obviously on Konami to deliver then, as they’ll know that they will need to basically make the perfect game if they are going to dismantle FIFA 14 and reclaim the throne as the top footy console game for this year and into 2014. Konami’s Kei Masuda is the creative producer for the upcoming game and has told Edge Magazine that the time was right to switch to a new engine.

He has conceded that the transition from PS2 to PS3 was a ‘difficult’ one, but remains confident that the team can deliver the game that fans have been waiting a few years to see after slipping down the pecking order as FIFA went from strength to strength in the process.

Additional details from MCV suggest that one of the new features of PES 2014 will be match momentum, using an example of Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard being able to resist hostile crowds and strong challenges to boost players around him to swing a match in your favor.

It sounds interesting and ambitious, but we can’t wait to see how it will differ to FIFA 14. A new engine is going to be fantastic as well – just how good will those player models be? If you are looking forward to the next-gen football battle between FIFA 14 and PES 2014, let us know if you are willing to give PES 2014 another chance.

We have some great news for fans of Metal Gear Solid now. As you can imagine, there is a lot of anticipation in the air over the upcoming showing of Ground Zeroes at GDC 2013. While it has already been confirmed that new gameplay will be on show at the event from Hideo Kojima, it has just got even better with the confirmation of a live stream as well allowing to you watch the new footage as it unfolds live.

To remind you, GDC 2013 takes place between March 25 and March 29 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. The Metal Gear Solid presentation is thought to be happening on March 27 from 11am to 12.30pm Pacific Time. That means that we have a 90 minute event from Hideo Kojima to look forward to, giving us plenty of time to really see how the game is shaping up.

More specifically, we should get an in-depth preview of how the Fox Engine is looking and the progress that has been made since the last time we saw Ground Zeroes. The game has already been confirmed for Xbox 360 and PS3, but we wonder is there now a chance of the game being released on next-gen consoles like the PlayStation 4 as well?

Ubisoft are doing it with Assassin’s Creed 4 and Watch Dogs, so perhaps Kojima and his team are tempted to do it with Ground Zeroes as well. Or will they wait until Metal Gear Solid 5 instead for a separate debut on next-generation hardware? It is an exciting time never the less.

This Belgian MGS fansite confirms the news of a live stream, so we should be able to provide you with a link closer to the date. If you are a big Metal Gear Solid fan, let us know what you are expecting to see from the new game. Should it be on the PS4 as well?

We have some interesting, but somewhat strange details to share with you now, with regards to the upcoming and highly anticipated Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes game. David Hayter, the renowned voice actor best known for playing the role of Solid Snake has suggested that he may not be lending his services for the upcoming game.

That is obviously a scenario that would be unheard of among fans, but just look at what the actor has posted on Twitter. He has revealed a series of polls, asking his followers how they would feel if he didn’t voice Snake in Ground Zeroes. Although his motives behind the surprising poll are unclear yet, he has revealed the results of the poll in a further Tweet.

He has said that 64% of 303 people surveyed (small number we know) would be sad/angry, 12% would not be bothered and the remaining 24% would not buy the game if he wasn’t in it. It’s interesting to note that in both Tweets he has highlighted the Twitter names of Hideo Kojima and Konami, so they see the action as well.

What has gone on here then? Are Konami seriously considering replacing Snake for the next game, or is it actually a ploy from David Hayter to get a contract signed early for financial reasons? Maybe he has decided that he needs a break from playing Snake and is just gaging the public’s reaction before making such a bold move.

Either way, fans are going to be very upset if he really is going to be absent from Ground Zeroes. Hopefully we’ll get a follow up to this story as it obviously is a bit worrying for die hard veterans of the franchise.

A Metal Gear Solid game without the real voice of Snake. Let us know what this would mean to you and whether you would still buy Ground Zeroes or not. It’s like Lou Ferrigno not voicing the Hulk.

We have some good news for those of you who are planning to pick up Metal Gear Rising. We have just had the release of the demo on the Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Store this week ahead of a release on February 19, but now Konami has finalized the limited edition version of the game and there is one special incentive on offer for those willing to pay a little extra.

There is now a real expectation lingering in the air that Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is going to be well worth the wait. It has been well documented that the game came in for initial criticism, but now fans look like they are over that and Raiden’s spin-off hack and slash adventure is looking like one of the highlights of Q1 2013.

The standard game is available for pre-order at $60 from online sellers, but now you can also opt for the limited edition copy as well, priced at $149. That is obviously not cheap by today’s standards, but there is one unique item that may interest die hard Metal Gear fans.

We’ve seen dragon statues and quadrotor drones with respective limited edition versions of Skyrim and Black Ops 2, but if you pick up the limited edition version of Metal Gear Rising, you’ll be able to snap up a High Frequency Plasma Lamp that features a replica of Raiden’s trusty blade inside the lamp.

When switched on, the lamp will glow bright blue, similar to the way in which Raiden’s blade is seen in the game. It certainly looks slick, but is it really worth dropping $150 on it? Aside from the Plasma Lamp, Konami are also throwing in the official soundtrack CD and a limited edition two-side steel book which encloses the game itself.

Hopefully we’ll be able to bring you a video of the lamp in action, as we’re sure most of you will want to check it out first before deciding whether to purchase. It would have been nice to see some figurines thrown in there as well, but for now this is the confirmed items.

Let us know if you will be buying the standard version of the game, or the Limited Edition instead for $150.

If you are still on the fence as to whether to pick up FIFA 13 or PES 2013 for this year’s football season, Konami has stepped in with a rather sneaky tactic. Despite already releasing a demo for PES 2013, the developer will be releasing a second taste of the game in an attempt to prize those who may have become tempted by recent media unveils for EA’s game.

We told you at the end of last month, that the first PES demo had arrived on Xbox 360 and PS3. However, some of you may have been disappointed with the lack of Premiership teams on show, as the demo only included countries and Brazilian teams and not some of your well known favorites that were included on previous PES demos.

Konami is putting things right though with their second demo, as they’ve announced that 11 fully licensed teams will feature in the demo and although they haven’t mentioned which ones are coming, we’re guessing that one or two Premiership teams will now be available for preview at last.

The new demo will also include some gameplay improvements as well, as Konami has said that pass targeting, trajectory, shot speed, blocking actions and referee AI have all been enhanced from the first demo. If you’re interested in picking this up, it will be available to download for the Xbox 360 and PS3 on August 28th.

Unfortunately, PC owners are going to have to wait a little while longer as Konami couldn’t give a specific date yet, only revealing that it will be out sometime in September. Are you still deciding which game to pick up between the two? If so, tell us what teams you would like to see in the second demo.

If you remain a loyal supporter of Pro Evolution Soccer, despite the fact that the franchise now plays second fiddle to FIFA, you’ll be wanting to know that the highly anticipated demo for PES 2013 arrives on the PS3 today.

The PES 2013 demo is already available for download on the Xbox 360 and PC via their respective stores, but now PS3 owners will be pleased to see that the demo is available for them as well. Depending on where you are located, the PlayStation Store update should be live now, meaning you can grab it from the store and start playing.

Unlike previous years though, there will be no UK or big European club teams to choose from. The demo instead offers countries this time around and rather bizarrely, a selection of Brazil’s finest club teams. The countries available in the demo include England, their Euro 2012 conquerors Italy, Germany and Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal side.

The demo also contains a Copa Libertadores mode where you’ll find the Santos FC, SC International, Fluminense and Flamengo teams up for selection. This should interest a few hardcore fans out there as Brazilian wonder kid Neymar plays for Santos, so you can see what his stats are like in the demo before you pick up the full game.

Are you a bit surprised that the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, Man Utd or Chelsea are not in this demo? Let us know if you have already tried it out on other platforms and are willing to pick the game up ahead of FIFA 13 this year. Somehow we have a feeling that FIFA is going to come out on top again.

If you didn’t already know that another Metal Gear Solid game is coming, Hideo Kojima has just confirmed it this week. In a recent interview, he said that not only is Metal Gear Solid 5 on the way, but also that we haven’t seen the last of Solid Snake either.

After watching the beautiful ending to Metal Gear Solid 4, you would have thought that Snake’s days as a solider would be up, especially after Big Boss’ recommendation that he continue to live life as a ‘man’. However, it appears that Snake is an immortal and will continue to live on for at least one more Metal Gear Solid game.

When speaking in an interview with French magazine IG, the legendary developer revealed the following crucial information about the game. Firstly, it will be built using the Fox Engine, which is meant to be Konami’s engine specifically designed for the next-generation of video games.

Secondly, the game will feature elements of social interaction this time around. Kojima specifically mentioned Deus Ex: Human Revolution as an inspiration and gave hints on how you’ll need to interact with certain characters and get them to ‘do you a favor’.

It is also worth mentioning that Kojima appears to be at the mercy of Konami as well. He mentioned that if it was up to him, Solid Snake would have died at the end of Metal Gear Solid 4. Konami obviously think that there is a lot more left in the tank for their primary franchise though and with the next-gen consoles on the way, a new Metal Gear Solid game would be perfect for Snake’s return.

The game will be using the Fox Engine, but what console will the game be on? There is plenty of talk on how the game could still remain on current consoles, but obviously the majority of fans would love for the game to be on next-generation consoles instead. Will MGS5 stay as a PlayStation exclusive like MGS4, or will Konami extend the game to the Xbox again like they have done with the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection.

There’s so many questions to be answered. Let’s hope that Konami and Kojima will make Metal Gear Solid 5 the main event at this year’s Tokyo Game Show in September. Let us know your reaction to seeing Snake again and Kojima’s omission that he wanted Snake to die at the end of Guns of the Patriots.

While Konami are currently busy preparing PES 2013 for a release this Autumn, the Japanese publisher and developer has revealed that they are already thinking of the future beyond PES 2013.

In an exciting revelation, Konami has announced that future Pro Evolution Soccer games will be on next-generation consoles and to show that they mean business, they are going to develop them on the Fox Engine. This engine if you are not aware has been designed by Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima and his production team, and it’s also an engine that is being built specifically for the use of next-generation games.

PES 2014 on the likes of the PS4 and Xbox 720 is obviously an exciting prospect, but Konami still has the little matter of trying to take back their mantle from FIFA, which many will agree has produced the better football games over the last couple of years.

Konami has even had some words to say on that battle, as PES 2013 senior producer Naoya Hatsumi is confident that the switch over to PES on next-gen consoles could be the moment when fans start to fall in love with the franchise again. When speaking to Eurogamer recently he said:

“What we are trying to do is we are going to win back the crown when it comes to the next generation. That’s what we want to do, and to do this we need to have a new engine. That’s what we think.”

Moving away from next-gen talk though, we also have some fantastic news for Vita owners. Konami has also confirmed that a Vita version of PES is currently in development, but a release may not happen in time for when PES 2013 comes out on console. With an excellent FIFA game already out on Vita though, it will be interesting to see if Konami can top that with an effort of their own. FIFA Soccer on Vita essentially plays just like the console version so Konami has their work cut out.

What are your thoughts on the current state of PES? Is the fact that Konami are using the Fox Engine on the next-gen PES game reason to be optimistic about the series’ future, or do you still think they have a long way to go if they are going to win fans over who are currently hooked to FIFA?

E3 is almost upon us and we’re pleased to say that Konami has the honor of kicking off the festivities. Just like previous years, the company has announced that they are holding a pre-E3 event, and you’ll be able to tune into a stream this Friday and catch all of their pre-E3 announcements at the first opportunity.

If you head to Konami’s E3 website now, you’ll see that there’s some bizarre battle going right now on a PES football pitch between various Konami characters. However, on June 1st at 12am Pacific Time, the website will be providing a stream of what is in store to come during the company’s actual E3 keynote.

We fully expect to see the likes of Metal Gear Solid: Rising and PES 2013 at the event, while speculation appears to have confirmed that Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 will be one of the main announcements as well. The Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is due to be released on Vita next month as well, so we’re guessing that Konami will be showing off some final gameplay of that to advertise the game a little bit before release.

What about the Zone of the Enders HD Collection as well? This has gone under the radar a bit while Konami focused on the Metal Gear Collection, so hopefully we’ll see some solid footage from this game as well. Other than that – Konami has the rest of the event to wow attendees and viewers with some brand new announcements.

Is it far too early to be thinking of Metal Gear Solid 5? A new Silent Hill game would be great to see as well. Konami seems to think that having a pre-E3 show will draw in a higher audience, so we just hope that they have some bombs to drop aside from the content that everyone is already expecting to see.

From our point of view, there’s probably a bit of added pressure since they now have the opportunity to drop the first massive announcements at E3 before Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo take to the stage. What are you expecting from Konami at E3?

We have some good news for those of you who have been waiting patiently for the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection to arrive on the PS Vita. Konami has finally come out and announced a release date update for the game.

The portable version has been a long time in development of course, while the console versions are freely available to pick up now on the Xbox 360 and PS3. The good news though, is that the Vita version will contain exclusive features, the most notable of which is the Transfarring feature which will allow gamers to transfer save files from console versions straight to the Vita.

Konami has announced this week that you’ll be able to pick up the Metal Gear HD Collection on the Vita in late June, although unfortunately they still cannot commit to a solid release date. This isn’t the most frustrating aspect at the moment for Metal Gear fans with a Vita though, as if you didn’t already know, the portable version will not come with Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.

Peace Walker comes with the console version of the game, but we’re guessing for storage reasons, Konami won’t be including this on the Vita version. Instead you’ll get the original Metal Gear 1 and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake games, as well as the HD ‘remakes’ of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and also Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

Don’t ask us why the first Metal Gear Solid PS1 game isn’t included on Vita either – apparently this is a Japanese special only. Japanese versions will get Metal Gear Solid 1 instead of Peace Walker, while all other versions will come without both. If it is a collection though celebrating the history of the great franchise, you would think that the logical thing here would be to include the original Metal Gear Solid game which is arguably one of the best games of all time.

Regardless of the controversy though, the collection is still looking like a great addition to the PS Vita, which is in dire need of some fresh games to play. Let us know if you plan to pick up the collection for your Vita and also your opinions on the omission of Peace Walker. Is it a big deal to you or not?
