The portable version has been a long time in development of course, while the console versions are freely available to pick up now on the Xbox 360 and PS3. The good news though, is that the Vita version will contain exclusive features, the most notable of which is the Transfarring feature which will allow gamers to transfer save files from console versions straight to the Vita.

Konami has announced this week that you’ll be able to pick up the Metal Gear HD Collection on the Vita in late June, although unfortunately they still cannot commit to a solid release date. This isn’t the most frustrating aspect at the moment for Metal Gear fans with a Vita though, as if you didn’t already know, the portable version will not come with Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.

Peace Walker comes with the console version of the game, but we’re guessing for storage reasons, Konami won’t be including this on the Vita version. Instead you’ll get the original Metal Gear 1 and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake games, as well as the HD ‘remakes’ of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and also Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

Don’t ask us why the first Metal Gear Solid PS1 game isn’t included on Vita either – apparently this is a Japanese special only. Japanese versions will get Metal Gear Solid 1 instead of Peace Walker, while all other versions will come without both. If it is a collection though celebrating the history of the great franchise, you would think that the logical thing here would be to include the original Metal Gear Solid game which is arguably one of the best games of all time.

Regardless of the controversy though, the collection is still looking like a great addition to the PS Vita, which is in dire need of some fresh games to play. Football nuts should know that Ronaldo was also the face of PES 2012 and he’s back once again as the main man promoting the new game. Konami has released a fairly impressive debut trailer for the new game, wasting no time in promising that the game has ‘returned to its roots’ – ie, the franchise that once walked all over FIFA.

The roles have well and truly been reversed now though and it’s EA’s FIFA games that everyone rushes to buy in the Autumn. Along with the trailer, Konami has also revealed some new game features, one of which is a brand new AI system called ProActive AI. Another main feature which Konami are bigging up is ‘PES FullControl’, with a heavy emphasis on a players first touch since he or she will now be able to perform a variety of moves when the ball first comes to you.

As for the trailer itself, it basically just features a lot of Ronaldo just running around, with Konami opting to keep it restricted to just cutscenes for the time being. We would have liked to see some actual gameplay, but we’re guessing that this may come at E3 2012 instead. The graphics quality of the cutscenes shown though are pretty decent, although we have to say that they are nothing groundbreaking and certainly not on the level of anything ‘next-gen’.

The Silent Hill HD Collection includes remastered versions of Silent Hill 2 and 3, both of which originally appeared on the PS2. However, players have discovered that the fog effects that are a key aspect of the game are inexplicably missing from the HD collection, resulting in an outcome which actually makes the PS2 originals look better – if you can believe that.

Screenshots have been releasing showing the HD collection and the PS2 originals side-by-side and it gives you an exact idea of the lack of effort that has gone into the remasters. There isn’t really any difference in quality which makes the HD collection stand out from the PS2 originals released back in 2001 and 2003.

In a further twist, one of the original developers for the PS2 games who didn’t work on the HD collection has spoken on Twitter, expressing his disappointment when being shown the same screenshots and lack of fog effects on the HD version. He now works as a freelance artist and thinks that Konami needs to release a patch to the game in order to put things right, as noted by Eurogamer.

He also mentioned that the poor graphics conversion could be down to difficulty with the PS3 hardware, but we have a feeling that he is just being as kind as possible to his former colleagues – there’s no excusing those screenshots as you see below. The game is already out in the US, but those of you in Europe still have time to make your mind up on the game as it’s out at the end of his month.

Konami has just announced that the January transfer updates will be implemented into the game on March 6 for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC versions of the game. As we told you when we were speaking about the update for FIFA, it will now mean that PES players will be able to call on the likes of Paul Scholes for Manchester United, and Papiss Demba Cisse for Newcastle.

At the moment, there’s no word on if the update will alter any player stats such as making Fernando Torres less effective in game in accordance with his form for Chelsea at the moment, or if the game will be making Robin Van Persie even better.

You’ll also be pleased to hear that the transfer updates are not the only thing that is coming to PES 2012 for free. The update will also include brand new kits for the Spanish, Japanese and German national teams, as well as eight new boot styles to choose over from Nike and Adidas. As one further treat, Konami has also said that the update will add the Adidas Finale Munich ball to the game, which is meant to be the ball that will be used for this year’s Champions League Final.

Are you still playing PES 2012 regularly? There’s a lot of talk now that FIFA 12 is superior in every way, which is a little bit disappointing since PES used to be the football game of choice a few years ago.

Hideo Kojima was recently quoted as saying that he’ll ‘probably have to make Metal Gear Solid 5′ and who is going to oppose that thinking. Fans would obviously love to see another game in the series, especially since Metal Gear Rising is a big change up from the stealth style Metal Gear games that we are used to seeing.

When the game will appear though remains to be seen and it is probably a long way off since don’t forget that Kojima is also working on an unannounced open world game known only as ‘Project Ogre’ at the moment. That hasn’t stopped the Metal Gear Solid 5 rumors from stopping though, as we have heard this week that a Japanese analyst company believes that Metal Gear Solid 5 will release sometime between April 2013 and May 2014.

As noted by Eurogamer, Nomura Securities are the company in question and probably base their presumption on the fact that Kojima himself makes no secret of the fact that a new Metal Gear game is very likely to happen. Using his Twitter account, he has even shared some of his initial storyline ideas, one of which includes a possible setting in Normandy.

“I had several ideas for a game featuring The Boss and the Cobra Unit during the invasion of Normandy. I then handed these plans over to the team so they could take over and make the game.”

In the meantime though, it is all about Metal Gear Rising. Kojima will not want to reveal too much about Metal Gear Solid 5 until Platinum Games have released their title. After divided opinion on the new look action adventure Raiden, it will be interesting to see how gamers take to playing Metal Gear in an entirely new format. Will it prove to be a correct decision by Kojima Productions to hand the game over to Platinum Games, or will the game end up bombing upon release with fans begging Kojima to save them with a new Metal Gear Solid title?

The HD collection has just been released for Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles in the west, but Hideo Kojima and his production team are still working on bringing the same collection to the Vita. Thankfully, we now have an update to bring you on the status of the portable version and that comes in a series of teaser images from Mr Kojima himself.

The legendary creator has teased a few images such as the main menu screen, as well as some specific story dialogue accompanied with some Metal Gear artwork, as detailed by AndriaSang. Both screens as you expect look rather stunning on the Vita’s 5-inch OLED screen.

That’s not all we have to bring you though, as Kojima has also revealed that the Vita version will feature new gameplay elements to accomodate the Vita’s touchscreen controls. One example of this has already been confirmed via the rear touch back controls, as players will now be able to knife opponents by flicking the rear touch pad once you perform a stealth takedown.

We imagine that Kojima is thinking of even more ways to incorporate touch controls into the Vita version of the game, but we’re just glad that they are putting in the extra effort to make the Vita game unique compared to the console versions. This combined with the exclusive ‘transfarring’ game save system make the Vita version very appealing and surely a must buy for all Metal Gear fans who pick up the Vita on February 22.

Hopefully it won’t be too long until we have a release date to bring you, but in the meantime let us know what ideas you have in terms of adding more touchscreen features to the Vita version. Perhaps Kojima can incorporate the camera in some way as well?

We previously brought you news that suggested the game, which will be available across PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms, would not be arriving until the second quarter of this year. Now since the arrival date of the Silent Hill HD Collection was confirmed for release in March recently, it would seem that Konami finally has an idea of what their foreseeable future plans are and has indicated March 13th as the official release date for Silent Hill: Downpour.

As reported by VideoGamer it would appear that March is set to be the month of the year for fans of the Silent Hill franchise as the PS Vita exclusive, Silent Hill: Book of Memories is also expected that month on the 27th. For those that haven’t been keeping up with our Silent Hill news here is a quick recap of what you can expect from each of these arrivals come March.

Firstly Silent Hill: Downpour will be a first-person action like the previous titles which will see players facing close hand combat with weird creatures and a lot of puzzle-solving. With the delays that the collection has received so far, some gamers had even begun to question whether it would ever actually be making an appearance at all. It was initially slated for an end of 2011 release but due to problems that it has faced, specifics of which we are unaware of at this moment in time, it was delayed until January 2012 and now as Joystiq reports the release has been pegged even further, again details as to why are limited.

For those that are unaware or have forgotten what the Silent Hill HD collection entails, here is a quick reminder. It will feature the games Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3 complete with improved dialogue and new voices along with the obvious improved graphics, rendering them high-definition standard. This surely makes the collection worth the wait for fans of the horror series.

Konami revealed the news in a statement to Joystiq which read ‘[the] Silent Hill HD Collection release date has been changed. The game will now be released in March. We will be sending out definitive dates on all three Silent Hill games later this week.’ As you can see a specific date in March is yet to be announced as for whether or not we will actually be seeing the game in that month at all, we will have to wait and see.

Now though, we have some good news for PlayStation 3 owners, as Platinum Games has just confirmed that the PS3 version of the game will be the lead platform. If you watched the recent interview that Konami posted revealing the real story behind the switchover, you would have seen Platinum Games using an Xbox 360 controller when designing the game, raising one or two eyebrows.

Atsushi Inaba, who is the producer for Metal Gear Rising at Platinum Games has taken to Twitter to clear a few things up for curious gamers, by revealing that the PS3 will be the lead platform. Here’s the Tweet below to show you what he said, courtesy of AndriaSang who has translated it from Japanese.

“So, in closing, Metal Gear Rising’s lead platform is also PlayStation 3,”

Prior to the quote above, Inaba had been talking about how the team (Platinum Games) made mistakes with the PS3 version of Bayonetta, which was developed by Sega. Only the Xbox 360 version was handled by Platinum Games, and it resulted in major loading issues on the PS3 version for many gamers. Platinum Games are now looking to learn from their mistakes though, as it will be the PS3 version which is developed first, and then a port will be made for the Xbox 360.

This isn’t the end of the world for Xbox 360 owners by any means, it just means that the chances of both versions being identical are far greater now that the PS3 version is taking lead. Platinum Games are now developing the game alongside Kojima Productions and Hideo Kojima’s watchful eye, but new footage of the game which aired at the awards is now the subject of big debate, with many gamers feeling that this new Metal Gear game isn’t heading in the direction that fans of the legendary franchise had hoped.

To give you an idea of the changes, we’ve picked out a great video which you probably haven’t seen yet, which compares the old and initial Metal Gear Rising gameplay, with new Rising gameplay which is taken from Platinum Games’ new build of the game. There are significant changes from the two versions as you’ll see below, the most obvious of which is the fact that the new re-imagining of the game now takes fundamental elements from the ‘hack and slash’ genre, as opposed to the original footage which fans believed would still maintain that core ‘stealth’ element which has become a key feature of the franchise.

Platinum Games are a team which have also developed titles such as Bayonetta and Vanquish, which gives a clear explanation to the frantic Ninja Gaiden style gameplay that now features prominently in the game. Fans are obviously divided on their opinions on the game at the moment, but with Kojima Productions still collaborating with Platinum Games for the 2012 game, Mr Kojima obviously feels that fans are still in good hands by passing the majority of tasks over to Platinum Games.
