A lot of new products from big named manufacturers lately have been taking advantage of the USB 3.0 speeds that are now available to computer technology. We recently brought you news of the new line of VAIO notebooks from Sony which is to feature Thunderbolt which is USB 3.0 compatible.

Today we have news of a new flash drive being shown off by Kingston. Kingston is well known for their low cost high speed devices. Its new USB 3.0 input device is the quickest one it’s released to date. It, like most USB 3.0 devices is also backwards compatible which means it will work with slower USB ports.

It’s called the DTU30G2 or its more dramatic name is DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 Generation 2, which even from the name suggest it’s something special. It comes in three storage sizes 64GB, 32GB and 16GB, has a write speed of up to 70MB/s and read speed of up to 100MB/s.

Despite Kingston’s reputation, the device starts at $77 for the 16GB version and goes up to $213 for the 64GB. If you would like to know more about the new flash drive, head on over to Kingston.com where you will find a full list of specs.

Are you impressed by this new device’s speeds?

The review comes to you courtesy of the guys over at PC Perspective, as they managed to get hold of an early sample of the device and give us their thoughts on it, and they have also provided a collection of teardown photos to top it all off.

According to them, the HyperX Max Drive has one of the highest write speeds to date and offers a very solid performance when compared with similar devices currently on the market. Key components of the SSD drive include 128GB of Toshiba flash and 128MB of DDR cache memory.

Kingston has recently announced a new 96GB solid-state-disk, apparently this is aimed towards enterprise and corporate users, however at the time of this post pricing information was unavailable

This drive falls into Kingston’s SSDNow V+100 family and has a 2.5-inch form-factor, it boasts sequential read speeds of 230MB/s and sequential write speed of 180MB/s. Other mentionable specs include the use of MLC NAND flash memory, SATA 1.5Gb/s and 3.0Gb/s support, 3.4W of power consumption and Kingston have given it an expected lifetime of 1,000,000 hours (MTFB).

Prior to this announcement Kingston offered SSDNow V+100 drives in a range of capacities (64GB, 128GB, 256GB and 512GB), at the moment 64GB Kingston SSDs retail for roughly $250, whilst 128GB drives retail for roughly $370, therefore expect the 96GB SSD to sit somewhere between these prices.

Last year sales of memory modules were massive, this probably had a lot to do with the release of new Operating Systems from both Apple and Microsoft Windows.

Market research from iSuppli has revealed that in 2009 Kingston were the top global memory manufacturer, this was determined by looking into the company’s market share and revenue.

iSuppli’s research revealed that Kingston had a massive market share of 40.3 percent in terms of DRAM modules in 2009, memory sales in this year brought Kingston a whopping $2.85 billion.

There were no real close-competitors to Kingston, the closest was A-Data with a 7.4 percent share of the market. Quite surprisingly Corsair only managed a share of 3.5 percent, which put them in eight space.

Who do you think will dominate this market in 2010? It is hard not to back Kingston.
