In recent months there seems to be a certain craze when it comes to 3D printers, maybe this is because their price has come down, or the fact that there is now a greater choice for smaller versions suitable for the home? These smaller 3D printers are great for creating a number of products, and certainly offer a great service.

However, some designer’s feel as though they could go smaller, which is why there is now a Kickstarter project for a handheld 3D printer, with a price that is below $100. The idea and that price do look very seductive, but once you begin to look at a recent review it’s clear that there is some deception going on.

We don’t mean this in an illegal way, but when you are given a description of something, you expect it to be that very thing, but when you find out that it does not do what you expect, that’s when we feel as though we have been deceived.

You can see in the first hands-on with the 3Doodler 3D pen that it does not print out 3D objects, but rather draws them by using a plastic kind of substance. The easiest way to explain this is taking a glue gun and then starting to draw in the air to create a piece of art, or something like that anyway. Okay, so we know that glue guns cannot do this, but you understand the principle.

The Kickstarter project needed to raise $30,00 in total, but has managed to raise $35,619 with 35 days left to go, so seems like a very popular ideas to some people. Would you class this a handheld 3D printer or a glorified glue gun?

When looking for weird and wonderful gadgets the first place you need to look at is the Kickstarter website, as this is the perfect platform to get your product out there. We’re not saying that all of what you see in the website are great, but there are times when a real gem comes along.

For those of you who do not know a designer who has come up with what they feel will serve a purpose are then put on the Kickstarter website in the hope of raising enough funds in order for the product to go on sale.

In an ideal world there would be a Kickstarter tracker so you know if a certain invention has raised enough cash, but there are websites out there who allows you to find the Kickstarter products you can buy, one such website is Bite My Apple, which as you would imagine sells nothing but Apple accessories.

Some of you may wonder if it is worth all the hassle putting your idea on the Kickstarter website, but we’ll go over a few products from the website above to prove it is worth it. However, even more proof is the Ouya games console and Pebble that appeared on Kickstarter. The former had a goal of $950,000, but reached $8,596,474, while the latter needed to raise $100,000 and finished on $10,266,845 – makes me want to put my thinking cap on.

There’s a huge selection of Apple Kickstarter accessories already available to buy, with some of the best appearing above for your viewing enjoyment.

First up is Auris, which is a Bluetooth music receiver, allowing you to enjoy listening to your music wirelessly. This little device will connect automatically when in range, and the best part is that it costs just $49.99.

How many times have you tried to watch a movie or listen to music on your iPad, only to learn that the sound is not as good as rival tablets? Well the recent Amplifiear Kickstarter project managed to raise its needed funds, so now this small device that sits on the side of your iPad can be purchased for $34.99.

One of our favorites has to be the Vers 1Q, as this hand-crafted Bluetooth or Walnut speaker not only has a premium look but also has the sound to match as well. The size of the speaker is very small; in fact it can fit in the palm of your hand. However, the sound is nothing but small and neither is the price, as this will set you back $129.99.

The iPad Desktop Chair is the perfect stand to go with the speaker above, as it is also made from wood. Most stands on the market look pretty similar, but this will look elegant when placed on the corner of your desk at home or work. The $37.99 price tag is pretty reasonable when you consider some other iPad stands on the market.

With so many iPhone cases on the market it’s often a tough job finding the perfect one, but the recent RADIUS Kickstarter iPhone 5 case should be worth the consideration. This accessory is understated, but when placed on your iPhone 5 it looks truly amazing, as well as the fact of offering a decent amount of protection. However, the $69.99 price tag may put a few people off.

Finally we have the chrome Koala Mount, which is a perfect wall mount for your iPad when cooking up some new recipes. There’s not too much we can say about this item, apart from the fact that it keeps your iPad out of harms way in the kitchen, and the fact that it costs just $19.99.

All these items and more can be found on the Bite My Apple website.

The deadline for the iPen 2 release is fast approaching with just 6 days to go and there’s a strong possibility that the stylus for the iMac, MacBook Pro and the iPad might not achieve the funding in time. The goal of $360,000 has yet to be achieved because the amount pledged so far stands at $271,547, and if it does not receive the required funds by February 5th then it could be game over.

If you would love to see the iPen 2 released then you had better get your donation in before it is too late. For those who have not heard of this Kickstarter, which was launched on December 27, 2012, it is a universal stylus that can be used on a number of Apple products, which you can see a demo off in the video below.

This is not like the old stylus pen from several years ago that was very simple in its design because the iPen 2 has several levels of pressure sensitivity well 1024 to be precise. Previous devices like this would require you to hold the pen in a less than natural way, but with the iPen 2 you can hold it any way you feel comfortable without loss of performance.

There is to be two versions of this new stylus, the iMac iPen 2 model, which is to cost $169 and the iPad version for $119. The former is to come with a stand included while the latter benefits from a compatible iPad Smart case.

Kickstarter is turning out to be an amazing tool for new investments that really help lesser known companies get their products out to market quickly. We’ve seen it work with the Ouya Android console, and now we have another Kickstarter project to tell you about called the GCW-Zero. It’s an open-source handheld system which offers users the ability to play PC games, as well as a collection of retro console emulators as well.

It looks like the system is going to turn out to be a big success going forward. The unit looks fairly appealing from a design point of view, but the initial advertisement on Kickstarter as well as ongoing media coverage seems to have convinced a lot of consumers to buy into the project.

At the moment, the GCW-Zero team have managed to acquire $124,606 out of their original target of $130,000 with still 6 days to go until the project is officially funded. There are also additional items thrown in if the group target reaches up to $200,000, such as a MiniUSB to USB OTG adapter, Mini-HDMI cable and GCW carrying pouch.

Interested consumers can donate any amount they wish, but you’ll need to give at least $135 to guarantee that you’ll receive one of the first finished models. Again, there are other goodies on offer for those that are willing to give more, but with a total so far of 904 backers – it’s clear that there is a lot of promise in this.

This is largely due to the fact that it can play games such as Quake and emulators such as the SNES, Megadrive, PS1 and so on, right out of the box. The list of specs are written on the Kickstarter website and include specs such as an Ingenic JZ4770 1 GHz MIPS processor, and a Vivante GC860 GPU.

Since the project began, the team have already decided to upgrade the RAM to 512MB DDR2 and the internal memory to 16GB, which is pleasing. Check out a video below to get a better idea of how the handheld system looks and plays.

Are you interested in funding this project to get an early build?
