You may remember a few weeks ago when we informed you about a recall for cereal makers Kellogg’s. We now have an update on that story to give you, as Kellogg’s has given further information on why the recall occurred in the first place.

As reported from Associated Press, Kellogg’s revealed that it was the ‘unusual’ amount of chemicals contained in the package liners of the four cereal products recalled, that was the key factor in announcing the recall a few weeks ago.

Consumers who complained about the cereals said that the taste was similar to that of metal or soap – Kellogg’s has now put that down to hydrocarbons and methyl naphthalene. Apparently, these chemicals are usually present in their packaging, but at much lower quantities than what was revealed in the examination.

If you are interested in reading more, you can check out the full article over at Associated Press. Let us know your thoughts on this. Were you affected by the recall or not?

One of the biggest recalls of the year – if not the biggest – is the Kellogg’s cereal recall, which affects 28 million boxes of Apple Jacks, Corn Pops, Froot Loops and Honey Smacks. We were advised to stop using the cereal; thankfully the big food brand is now offering instruction on how to claim your free box.

Debbie Turner from Only Kent learned from Chicago Tribune that if customers now phone Kellogg’s Customer Response Center, then they will be met by an automated voice who will give them instructions on how to get the free cereal – this will be the amount that you purchased.

After the message you just leave your name and address and the number of boxes of cereal that you purchased that have been affected by this latest recall. Within 7 to 10 days you will then receive a coupon, which you can then take to your local store to exchange them for replacements

There are people who still are worried about what could happen if they ate any of these affected cereals, for more details on this visit our recent FAQ article. Please share with us your thoughts and if you have felt ill after eating any of the above cereals.

We recently reported that on June 25, 2010 Kellogg’s issued a voluntary recall on a few of their cereal products. This was due to consumers complaining of strange smells coming from the boxes – in some cases causing vomiting. As you would imagine the news that there is to be 28 million boxes of cereal recalled has got parents worried, so we thought we would give some information on FAQs.

The first question is what cereal products are affected by this latest recall? The answer is Kellogg’s Apple Jacks, Corn Pops, Fruit Loops and Honey Smacks. More details and code dates can be found on the Kellogg’s website.

The next question most commonly asked is what should you do if you have a product affected by this recall. The easiest thing to do would be to call 888-801-4163 – this is the Kellogg Consumer Response Center.

The next question asks where the products were packaged and shipped; the answer is the United States. Those who have asked if the food is still safe for consumption are advised to not eat the cereal.

Some consumers have said that although their product is included in the recall they do not have any bad smell coming from the packaging. Kellogg’s still advises you to still not eat the cereal.

For these and more information on this recall visit Kellogg’s website

Following on from our earlier article which informed you about the huge cereal recall from Kellogg’s, we now have an official statement from the company regarding the recalled products.

Firstly, if you haven’t seen our previous article, you can read it again here. Four popular cereals from Kellogg’s have been recalled due to a strange ‘smell’ coming from the cereal packaging boxes.

David Mackay, president and chief executive officer of Kellogg Company had this to say on the recall:

“We apologize to our consumers and our customers and are working diligently to ensure that the affected products are rapidly removed from the marketplace.”

The company has also provided a telephone number (888-801-4163) which customers can ring for further information – Lines are open from 8 AM to 8 PM eastern time.

Hopefully they will find out the exact nature of the problem and identify why the boxes are producing an unwelcome smell.

Some worrying news to bring you now, as it has been reported that cereal giant Kellogg’s has had to recall 28 million boxes of their cereal in the U.S, due to unusual smells coming from the packaging boxes of the cereal.

As reported from Examiner, we have a list of cereals which have been affected by the recall. These include Apple Jacks, Corn Pops, Froot Loops and Honey Smacks.

According to Kellogg’s, this is a voluntary recall and it comes after around 20 people complained about the ‘wax-like’ smell coming from the boxes, with a few people even vomiting as a result.

Kellogg’s are trying to identify the problem at the moment and will be giving out further information soon. Head to Examiner for a full list of product codes and important dates.

Have you bought any of the cereal listed above? If so, let us know your thoughts on this.
