It has been a few days since Apple released the iOS 5.1.1 update, and while we expect problems with each software update this one seems to have attracted a pattern of issues. In our earlier article we spoke about iPhone 4S battery life decreasing at a faster rate after iOS 5.1.1 (not for everyone), although you can also see a few comments in that article with users reporting other issues that started right after the new software installed.

The reason you really needed the iOS 5.1.1 update – there had been three serious problems with the security of iOS 5, which are now fixed thanks to the latest update and this alone is a good reason to install this software. This article also points out these recent security issues and explains they are grounds for “iOS-specific malware” coming to the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch users in the future.

It’s the view of Kaspersky Labs CTO that Apple’s iOS is “vulnerable“, and while the “collaboration” is not crystal clear it was stated that Kaspersky are working “independently“, although Apple are happy to collaborate with them to look at security on Mac OS X. Kaspersky’s CTO (Nikolay Grebennikov) also points out that the Flashback botnet is enough proof Apple need to act fast.

You can take a look at the article on computing.co.uk for direct quotes from Kaspersky Labs, which are well worth a read considering Grebennikov thinks Apple “doesn’t pay enough attention to security” and iOS is likely to see the first iPhone malware in “a year or so“.

Do you worry your mobile operating system is not protected enough?
