If you love Apple as much as some of our readers then you might be interested in getting an Apple Store job soon, which seem to be even more desirable now thanks to a massive increase in pay. Some uncorroborated reports are pointing to Apple jobs seeing a pay increase of up to 25 percent, which are said to be for the retail workers after Apple carried out an internal review of job satisfaction.

It seems that a number of meetings took place with employees over pay, and some of Apple’s staff saw an increase as high as a quarter of their current pay. This action had been taken because Apple found a large number of employees were complaining about pay, and while there’s major economic problems around the world with many industries seeing staff complaining about wages, Apple are certainly not doing too bad with profits compared to other companies.

The bump in wages had not been locked to any region, and this source reports they’ve heard from Apple employees across the United States. We feel that Apple have stepped up to the plate with wages that reflect their position as the one of the biggest retail employers. At the time of writing it seems that Apple Store staff earn around $15 per hour, and anyone working for Apple considered as a “Genius” are paid around $30 per hour.

Considering the financial problems around the world and also how well Apple are doing with high profits, Retail Store sales of around $14 billion last year, did Apple do the right thing increasing employee pay in such a big way? If you have been tracking the latest news surrounding the iPhone 5 you might want to read about a new MagSafe 19-pin port for the next-gen iPhone.

In the same month 3 years ago Verizon avoided a strike by giving a 10.5 percent wage increase, but today this was not the case. It’s being widely reported that Verizon workers have gone on strike this Sunday, August 7, 2011.

Thanks to the work back in 2008 a strike was prevented, which is not the case this month that marks the first strike in 11 years at Verizon Communications Inc. The failure to reach any agreement meant that around 45K workers walked out today, and most of them were from Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. The area of business these workers are in is landlines, and this area is known to be decreasing in revenue each year thanks to the popularity of cell phones, and also the good deals that cable companies are offering to landline users.

Verizon have been prepared for this strike and part of the preparations included training nonunion managers, which will handle maintenance, network repairs, and customer service calls. WSJ is reporting that the largest union, The CAW, has put by over $400 million as a contingency fund. Talks are planned to continue for the hope that some sort of deal could be reached.

It will be the hopes of customers that there will be no major problems with the Verizon services they use during the strike, as a shortage of staff could cause problems getting services up and running in a timely manner. At the time of writing all services seem to be running fine. The managers replacing multiply jobs will have to work 6 days a week for around 12-hours a day, and the CWA are ready to support their members with $300 a week from the 30th day of the strike, and $200 a week from the 15th day.

What is your view of Verizon striking, especially during a time of hardship for the whole country?

The repercussions are starting to be felt following the Japanese disaster, and the latest news is in the auto industry. GM cuts have been announced to stop any spending they state as “unnecessary”, which will be felt companywide.

There will be a shortage of parts that General Motors needs following the tsunami and earthquake in Japan, and this is why GM released news about their cuts to counter the financial implications. This is a smart move to avoid any future problems, which should be avoided considering the financial trouble the automakers have felt in recent years.

GM plans cuts in jobs and a number of other resources, these include running limited shifts at select plants, and temporarily closing the Zaragoza plant in Spain. The United States will see a pickup plant in Louisiana affected, which will see production halted.

You can read more about the above cut backs here, and the official GM media pages show the latest news about cost saving taking place. The latest release shows GM’s statement on the impact of Japan’s earthquake.

You can keep up on more auto related news in our auto section. Will you be hit by the latest General Motors cuts?

If you are currently searching for the highest paid jobs and are also interested in knowing what the worst paid jobs are, you’ll be interested to know that there are a few apps which can help with this very subject.

We all want a high paid job in life, but sometimes it isn’t easy to find just by searching via the conventional methods. With this in mind, why not try your hand at searching for some vacant positions with the help of your trusty iPhone or iPod Touch?

One app we’ve picked out is called ‘High Paying Jobs’, and it’s currently available to download now from the App store or iTunes for free. The app lets you browse through millions of job opportunities, and usefully, the app will divide jobs and categories based on the location you insert into the search bar. The only downside to this free app, is that it is US-only at the moment. You can view some preview screenshots over at App Shopper here.

If you’re looking for some of the worst jobs of 2011, you may be interested in this AT&T Jobs portal app we’ve found on iTunes. Ok, perhaps we’re being unfair a little bit to good ol’ AT&T, so we’ll cut them some slack. On a serious note, the worst job in 2011 at the moment is a Roustabout, according to CareerCast’s list over at the WSJ. That’s closely followed by an ironworker, a lumberjack and a taxi driver believe it or not.

That list of best and worst jobs in 2011 is very interesting though, so make sure you check it out. Do you know someone with a really good or bad job? We’d love to hear your suggestions below.

The internet is growing all the time, and also the opportunities it brings are also becoming broader. The biggest growth is with social media websites, with the likes of Facebook and Twitter gaining millions of users each year. This brings more vacancies for people who have social-media expertise, as companies look for ways to get in on the action.

Sarah Lundy from PostBullentin.com is reporting that there has been a massive increase in job opportunities across the country. Major companies like Dell have shown the way in utilizing social media, it recently said it generated $3 million in sales from links from various Twitter accounts.

According to Augie Ray a Forrester Research analyst “This has been the year where every organization has come to realize the importance of social media”. He feels that with social media marketing companies no longer have to spend months working on a project before launching it.

But the work begins after it has been launched dealing with how people react to the campaign and respond to comments. This needs people who are capable of creating an overall strategy or having someone who can respond and monitor public comments on sites such as Facebook.

Dan Schawbel from Mashable has written an article a while back looking at ways for people to use social media when looking for their next job. First after you have identified five companies you would like to work for use sites like Facebook to look through the corporate pages and groups. If you find someone Google their name to see if you can find personal contact information. Use the link to see all the tips given.

There are so many things that are important when going to a job interview, but none more so than first impressions. To get off to the right start you need to make certain that you are dressed correctly – so knowing what suit to wear could be key to your success.

If you do not look the part – then chances are the interviewer would have already made up his or her mind. It does not matter what job you go for, wearing a suit shows that you can make an effort and is a sign of respect – something that can a long way in a job interview.

Boardroomties has a point when they say that if you are not dressed correctly, then all of your planning and your CV will mean nothing. As we said, always wear a suit – the colors of choice are black, dark grey or navy blue. If you have to go for a second interview with the same company – then it is best to wear a different suit. Just make certain that they are clean with no bobbles or frays.

Getting the shirt and tie right is also very important; make certain that the shirt is white and the tie is silk. To understand the importance of this please visit boardroomties.com
